Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

If I had to guess I'd say it's probably around $200m, excluding marketing. It doesn't have radio stations but it does likely have a much bigger OST than GTA V, a way bigger cast (from what we've seen) and maybe even bigger in scale and definitely ambition especially with the AI development. But it would not surprise me one bit if they came out and said it's their most expensive game ever.

They didn't really start full development until 2014-15. Rob Nelson said that they worked on concept art first.

That isn't true at all.

They started development WAYYY earlier.

After Red Dead Redemption, they started doing concepts, and then in ~2012, Rockstar San Diego began Development with about 50 main devs.

However as time went by, they noticed that this needed to be a global effort, and from 2014 on they went to global development with all kinds of Rockstar studios churning in.

Including R* North employees being flown out to San Diego and stuff.

Yeah I was a little stoked for Days Gone. Now Im meh. Only thing that interests me is the creepy child zombies and the creepy cult enemies. Ill wait to get it cheap and use it to fill my craving for the last of us. Maybe. Probably wont get it at all.

When you see that GTA V costs $265m to make and market, you are like f*cking hell.

Then you realize it has made around $6bn then you are like F * C K I N G H E L L.

Edit: lets hope i get to say f*cking hell to RDR2 sales next year as well.

I dont expect close to 100 million copies sold but it will still be a blockbuster success in its own way

It'll be hard due to how mainstream the GTA franchise is. It's still gonna sell quite a lot of copies though.

Yes,Days Gone is a generic game. It does not bring anything innovative and has a ridiculous and outdated HUD.

It's more of a "Sony the Game" action-adventure game full of scripts and cutscenes at every turn with a damn slow camera on the shoulders.

I stopped watching when he started using Detective mode.

Detective mode? What's it used for in Days Gone?

RDR1 cost somewhere around 90M-100M$ to produce and market. RDR2's development and marketing cost will no doubt be higher.

V's development cost em 115M$ with the rest of the 150M being spent on marketing.

I really hope each individual NPC will have a name. That was such a cool thing in RDR and I was dissapointed with GTAV for not having it, but it was understandable given GTAV is metropolitan and has hardly any 1 on 1 npc interactions aside from insulting somebody. I would be really impressed to find certain NPCs and listen to what they do and say and see whole wiki pages about random NPCs and their behaviors. I also toyed with the idea of having NPCs die, like if there is an old man who lives in a cabin named Jebediah Grimm and I shoot him in the head, I won't see Jebediah anymore. I know this would eventually lead to ghost towns for us psychopaths who eventually get bored and murder everyone, but I feel like it could be fixed to certain NPCs like in past games, like Fallout and GTAIV/RDR but on a more dynamic scale and only with certain NPCs.

The cool thing is that not even the RDR wiki has collected all the info about the npc's. Makes you really want to play the game and find out something very few people know about. I'm searching some random npc's right now.

Please pardon me if someone already brought it up, RDR II physical & digital pre-order are both put up on Rockstar's website.

https://www.rockstargames.com/games/info/reddeadredemption2

Note: Its still not up for pre-order yet in my country(PSN). Dunno if pre-order is available elsewhere.

So, three weapons just like in MP3? Two one-handed weapons, and one long weapon.

It will be interesting to choose carefully which weapon to use.

I basically always use the Henry or Winchester, anyway.

Kinda annoys me that less iconic western weapons do so much more damage later into the game and you're kinda punished for using the ones you like better.

I'm wondering if we will get to use semi-automatic weapons like the semi-automatic pistol again? I'm sure in 1899 there were already some of those.

I hope so. I want to see them get creative with weaponry but don't go too far with it and still uphold the western feel. A Revolving shotguns is on my wishlist idc lol. I hope we can whistle for mini guns and cannons if need be like magnificent 7. Shred through everyone in a town. This sh*t is going to be amazing.

Semi-automatic pistols already ruin the western feel for me, to be honest.

Seeing them in RDR1 already rub me the wrong way.

I hope this time you can own a buggy or a stagecoach.

I'd really love that but I also really doubt it.

You guys realize that a game doesn't cost less just because of the theme.

Because of the theme, maybe not, but clearly TakeTwo can't realistically expect RDR2 to make as much money as GTAV, so I wouldn't realistically expect them to put as much money into it.

GTA is a much more popular series.

Expectations of course will be set kinda low. I think it's the response from the people that will sell RDR2. If they can bridge that gap with content that can appeal to the younger crowd, its over. Also keep in mind that RDR2 maybe service based like GTAV and games supported with "quality content" over time will continue to sell regardless. (GTAV, R6S etc). I don't believe it will do as good as say a GTA but once people start to see what the game holds and what you can do in the world and its going to be a powerhouse. There are some still not too thrilled about it, i know people personally that are like RDR2? NA I'm getting BO4 or f*ck a cowboy game or the trailers look boring. I think once people see the game in action, see their friends playing it etc that is where it will blow up. Reason why i truly feel like RDR2 will be at e3. It has to be in the face of every consumer, kid or adult.

I think that Trusted Reviews leak that came out in February mentioned something about Dead Eye being used to track bounties and detecting wildlife.

Hair and facial hair grows over time, you will need to cut them if you want. You can chose to cut only chin, moustache, etc. But if you do so, you will have to wait until they grow back to do another cut.

I hate to say it, but I agree. It still looks like a cool game, but its so Sony-fied. As much as I love The Last of Us, like everyone else, Im sorta pissed at that games influence.

All these Sony exclusives are trying to be a carbon copy Naughty Dog game. If I didnt know and somebody told me God of War 4 was made by Naughty Dog, I wouldve believed it.

Sony also needs to produce more open world games. Horizon 0 Dawn barely counts. And of course Days Gone is a zombie game. Imagine an open world game from Naughty Dog.

How to make a Sony game...

1) Third person

2) mini cutscene every 5 minutes

3) shallow stealth mechanics

4) super dramatic storyline

Not to mention all the money spent on things that get scrapped and never see the light of day. I imagine that accounts for a much greater portion of the budget than game devs would ever admit. Especially in the case of Rockstar. Given what we know about how they scrapped the original GTA V heists, how they they scrapped the single-player DLC - they're far from averse to chucking work down the drain when they know it's not up to their standards.

I can only imagine how many versions of RDR2 lie on the scrap heap after these 8 long years!!

Will Red Dead Redemption 2's world evolve over time? If so, does it eventually stop expanding or will we continuously see new stuff being built within the map? This feature is revolutionary.
