Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

I am using Google Translate as well.

But as far as I understand, what Rob Nelson means is that there won't be procedurally generated Random Events, as in, something randomly happening on a part of the map, just for the sake of it....

But in the following paragraph he talks about how you can see Bandits and Gangs, or a bear trying to assault you.

So I really do not quite understand what he is trying to tell us here.

Perhaps that all Random Events are individually designed, just as most were in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, I believe.

And there is no procedural system behind them.

So maybe, no random stage coach robberies, apearing, but rather, some apearing during certain parts, depending on how far you have progressed in the Story.

Ahh I think I understand now, instead of ya know just the little robbery happening over and over like Herbert moon for example rather they are more "mini story" random events like GTAV like that one lady who said she had a friend that was stabbed, but then she led you back to a mugger. Or the lady who was being buried alive by the mob up in paleto bay.

I guess that's cool and makes more sense than some dude getting robbed like every single day in the same spot by the same guy.

But I have to say i hope these things don't have a "limit"like GTAV where once you do them once their gone, because by the time you get to the end game, it feels so empty now, you've done everything there is.

I hope there are still little things that we can do that are somewhat infinite so to speak, like the GTAV armored car robberies and such, I'd hate for at the end of the game there to be nothing to do besides play mini games and such. I want something to keep me occupied in the world. And not have to start a new game every time to feel like there's life in the world.

Too many games make that mistake, but honestly I have faith this is rockstar, I get the feeling like there was just a bit lost in the translation. As you said he kinda contradicts himself in the next paragraph.

Good point about the end game. I didnt think about that, but hopefully, since their main focus was to create a world where everyone is doing something and you can interact with everyone it will lead to continuous stuff to do after you beat the game. After Gta 5s story it was so dry because the focus was so heavy on the narrative with the 3 player switch system. I dont know, it depends on how this story goes I guess..

I think what he's saying in that interview is that the random events will be more stage-managed from behind? That there will be systems in the background taking into account things like where you are in the narrative, so that Arthur won't take up the offer to compete in flower hunting if he's supposed to be urgently doing something story-wise. Whereas if you've just moved camp and are resettling in a new area, maybe the game will loosen up a bit and present you with more opportunities because there isn't as much pressure on Arthur.

But he also says "there are no procedural things that happen here or there". But surely aren't even things like animal spawns procedural? Obviously each animal has their own specific zone/area where they can spawn, but within that area they can randomly spring up anywhere (obviously still in relation to where the player is). I'm sure that's how it was done in RDR, whereas in GTA V it often felt more scripted - e.g. is it just me or does a mountain lion spawn every time you get halfway up Mount Chilliad? I can't recall similar predictability in RDR.

So if he is saying that the events will be more directed in regards to story context and other factors then I suppose that makes sense. But if it takes away from RDR's dynamism and unpredictability in favour of something more akin to GTA V's finite and scripted "random events" then that will be disappointing.

TL;DR - I still don't know exactly what he's saying!

Will we find out my Dutch is called Dutch in the game?

I want to know why he's called that cause he ain't Dutch

Van der Linde is pretty much a Dutch name.. a friend of mine is called like that as well. Dutchs ancestors were Dutch for sure 🙄

Well we obviously know Van der Linde is a Dutch name, but the main question I'm asking is how come we don't get anything about him mentioning anything Dutch in RDR.

I don't like the look to Arthur's beard. I count 386 strands of hair. There should be nearer to 20000 to be realistic....

And the award for the person with too much time on there hands goes to....

Besides that in rdr he wore an orange outfit which is again a reference to my country. Edited by Youreawantedgamemrrdr2

Does anyone know who the girl that says "you will never change, i know that" from the third trailer is? It sure as hell isnt abigail

Most likely Arthur's ex spouse or a close family member.

Based on the quality and elegance of her clothing I'm definitely getting a much more spouse/ex-spouse of Dutch vibe, a bit too high society for Arthur. Also I'm pretty sure she says "He'll never change..." which would make sense if Arthur was inquiring about Dutch.

Not many geographic names are nothing more than nick names... Dallas, Texas, Frenchy, Scotty, Dutch etc etc... What's Dutch's real Christian name?

Good point, but I wouldn't describe Dutch as high society. That's what he's all against.

About drinking coffee (Yes), is it going to be something we can do at any moment like in Sea of Thieves or something we can do as we get closer to the camp? Something similar to drinking whiskey at Michael's house on GTAV?

Dutch claimed to have a "Robin Hood" complex but according to John he "lost his way." That implies to me that he started keeping some of the money for himself and got greedy. I imagine RDR2 will highlight this. It looks like Dutch is always well dressed in comparison to the rest of the gang. He wears more jewelry as well.

I can't remember exactly how it was worded now, I mean the preview said they saw Arthur walk over to the fire and pour a cup.

With coffee I imagine you need a fire from either the gangs camp or the camp site you can set up for yourself in the wild, possibly in saloons as well?

I vaguely remember one of the interviews mentioning something about "you can do things like drink whiskey and when the bottle is finished Arthur throws it to the side" so maybe things like alcohol we can carry in our bag or on our horse to use whenever.

That's what I'd like to see, I wanna get drunk and go stumble around, fall in the river and all kinds of silly sh*t.

Always wanted to do that in GTA and RDR but the drunk effects didn't last long enough to get away from the bar.

I hope this time you can own a buggy or a stagecoach.

Would be cool. Seems like extra weapons are stored on horses, so I imagine a wagon would hold even more weapons.

Idk I think storing weapons inside a bear would be more tricky than it sounds.

Man, I've read like 3 different articles with people bitching about the fact that John Marston is in RDR II. It's so unbelievably stupid. There is literally no way they could have done a prequel about Dutch's gang WITHOUT including John. He's way too integral to the gang and essentially the reason they broke apart. Abigail even says in RDR that John basically forced them to confront their own hypocrisy and that they resented him for it. A gang of flawed Robin Hood-esque outlaws fighting against a corrupt society is too good of a game idea to pass up, and I couldn't be happier that they've taken it in this direction. It allows them to continue the themes of the first game while telling a new story. People love to bash on prequels, but a well done prequel can enhance and improve the original story if done well. Seeing a younger, brasher John will make me appreciate his personality in RDR even more. If RDR II makes me feel a connection to Bill, Dutch, and Javier, playing through the first game again might make me feel guilty for having to kill them, and I'll actually feel what John is feeling. Thats why this games story potential excites me.
