Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

I'm sure there will be plenty of random events popping up, it's just that they are catered to your point in the story campaign. Idk how they plan on doing that, maybe increasing the difficulty.

And I am sure there will be plenty of minigames, I hope so, RDR has awesome minigames.

Will we find out my Dutch is called Dutch in the game?

I want to know why he's called that cause he ain't Dutch

Mas u Sees

The Interview also confirms that there won't be procedurally generated events, as there were in Red Dead Redemption.

The Events, will rather be catered to the point in story you are and are all individually designed.

Excuse me for my moment of stupidity, but when I read this section of the article (through the not so reliable google translate, this part confused me and still does.

What does this mean exactly? That there won't be random things happening in the world? Like people trying to rob others or steal their horses or God forbid Herbert f*cking moon getting robbed again?

That's odd. I know I can't be reading that right, I mean the world would be so empty. And not to mention all the work their doing with the interactivity of npcs. It seems odd to not have them doing little things we can intervene with.

God I know I'm being incredibly dense right now and I'm just not understanding it even though it's right in front of me.

Maybe someone could give me an example of this vs how GTAV random events worked? Are they just saying they don't want the SAME event popping up in the same spot over and over again like in GTAV? That's what I get out of it at least.

I am using Google Translate as well.

But as far as I understand, what Rob Nelson means is that there won't be procedurally generated Random Events, as in, something randomly happening on a part of the map, just for the sake of it....

But in the following paragraph he talks about how you can see Bandits and Gangs, or a bear trying to assault you.

So I really do not quite understand what he is trying to tell us here.

Perhaps that all Random Events are individually designed, just as most were in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, I believe.

And there is no procedural system behind them.

So maybe, no random stage coach robberies, apearing, but rather, some apearing during certain parts, depending on how far you have progressed in the Story.

Because people have last names that originate from their ancestors. It doesn't have anything to do with him personally lol.

Irish, Welsh* and French were all named after their nationalities and spoke with accents from each country.

Dutch may have been half-Dutch but he never mentions anything about his ancestors or anything Dutch.

Ahh I think I understand now, instead of ya know just the little robbery happening over and over like Herbert moon for example rather they are more "mini story" random events like GTAV like that one lady who said she had a friend that was stabbed, but then she led you back to a mugger. Or the lady who was being buried alive by the mob up in paleto bay.

I guess that's cool and makes more sense than some dude getting robbed like every single day in the same spot by the same guy.

But I have to say i hope these things don't have a "limit"like GTAV where once you do them once their gone, because by the time you get to the end game, it feels so empty now, you've done everything there is.

I hope there are still little things that we can do that are somewhat infinite so to speak, like the GTAV armored car robberies and such, I'd hate for at the end of the game there to be nothing to do besides play mini games and such. I want something to keep me occupied in the world. And not have to start a new game every time to feel like there's life in the world.

Too many games make that mistake, but honestly I have faith this is rockstar, I get the feeling like there was just a bit lost in the translation. As you said he kinda contradicts himself in the next paragraph.

I'm like 99% sure dutch is just a nickname because of his dutch family background, I wonder what his real first name is

I understand what you and the other guy are saying about Dutch being called Dutch may be because of his very likely Dutch ancestry.

However, I never saw him mentioning anything Dutch in RDR so I think he may have been given the nickname due to other reasons (people comparing him to the Dutch in terms of knowledge, power or wealth, him looking like a Dutchman despite not being one, him having a liking for something Dutch, etc.)

Why would he mention anything dutch in rdr? It would make no sense for him to explain his nickname to somebody who has known him for 12+ years

He could've told the Natives he recruited why he's named Dutch. In the mission where you search for him, it would've been a nice Easter egg for you to hear him explaining to the Natives why he's called Dutch.

Also, he could've reminded John why he's called Dutch in the stand-off they have at the mountain or in the bank in another mission.

Mate his family could have had that last name for 20 generations. Or longer. Most people can't trace their roots past 5 or 6 generations much less tell you where their last name originates.

Let's say my last name is Smith. Do you think I can trace it back 700 years to the first guy in my family that happened to be a blacksmith? No.

It's just his last name. Born with it.

Edit: Nvm I am an idiot. I thought Dutch was his last name.

Regardless, could just be the name his parents gave him.

So, three weapons just like in MP3? Two one-handed weapons, and one long weapon.

It will be interesting to choose carefully which weapon to use.

I'm wondering if we will get to use semi-automatic weapons like the semi-automatic pistol again? I'm sure in 1899 there were already some of those.

I don't like the look to Arthur's beard. I count 386 strands of hair. There should be nearer to 20000 to be realistic....

I hope so. I want to see them get creative with weaponry but don't go too far with it and still uphold the western feel. A Revolving shotguns is on my wishlist idc lol. I hope we can whistle for mini guns and cannons if need be like magnificent 7. Shred through everyone in a town. This sh*t is going to be amazing.

I just hope to have a lot more haircut and beard options in the game campaign.

It sounds like you have whatever haircut you like, by subtraction. Just let it grow long, then hopefully you can manually cut it like in real life. Don't accidentally cut off too much. Looks good. At first I'm going see how long it can get

You guys hoping for customisation options as extensive as GTA V/GTAO? by that I mean clothing etc. The Western times aren’t exactly known for there designer clothes, and variety in clothing too. So I’m wondering how many options will we have? How many can Rockstar really come up with? Whatever the number may be, I’m sure they won’t disappoint. Or will they go the same route as RDR with the challenges and clothing sets?

Hope so! I loved smacking noobs in Free Roam who used the High-Powered Pistol and Semi-Automatic Pistol with my trusty Bolt Action Rifle and Henry Repeater (sometimes a Throwing Axe to the dome for good measure).
