Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

Is there a possibility that Arthur is still alive after the events of the first game and he is the one that taught Jack Marston how to be a gunslinger to avenge John? It never explained how Jack got so good with no prior experience, did it?

id think jack would learn on his own. arthur teaching jack how to git gud is kind of cliche. jack was already trying to learn to hunt and self by himself in the first game, im pretty sure that the fact that he had to protect him self and his mom just made him want to be the best shooter

i think jack learning from landon ricketts or bonnie macfarlane is more likely

Tbh I doubt Landon would be up for teaching jack seeing as he wanted pretty much nothing to do with gunslinging after the Mexican war arc.

And Bonnie well... lets just say she would have other things to worry about rather than teaching someone who she barely knew about avenging his dad that in itself would seem cliche

Some interesting new tidbits from the exclusive Gamepro interview with Rob Nelson.

  • It should be central, that everything feels like a piece, therefore, for example, things that we can do in missions must be possible in the open world - not choreographed, but free.

'If you grab somebody in a bank robbery and throw this person through a door, then the melee system has to allow something similar outside a mission/in open play as well. To make this sure the same people who work on the missions are also working on these game mechanics, it's all part of a family."

  • Ultimately, the goal is to tell Rockstar's open worlds more and more their own stories that are born purely out of game mechanics.

'Our worlds have always been big and spacious, and you've gotten lost in them, and our missions have been fun too, but now you're supposed to be able to interact more with the world itself, and everything has to fit the story and vice versa.'

  • It is important to feel connected to the world - and here small details make the big difference, Rob Nelson points out.

'As the horse slides down a slope, or as we ourselves slide down a slope or scramble up, or as we wade through mud or and watch planters - all this is important, and we want to expand that.'

Why did all of the foreign websites ask all the good questions? I like IGN but whenever they do previews they focus on the wrong things.

ABSO-f*ckING-LUTELY so glad I read that now. That is the biggest thing in my opinion. It all has to connect. Don't give me all this really cool sh*t to do but then lock it behind certain missions only. I f*cking hate that. In any game. Set pieces are cool. But locking away entire features isn't.

*Cough* cattle herding *cough*

I know that's not really what he's talking about, it's more about small details but still...I can't believe how much this game seems to be pure fan service so far...it's really effecting my opinion on r* as a Company. I just hope it's as good as it sounds.

If they're gonna make horses way more important, and do horse perma-death, and all that, then they need to make it impossible to shoot your own horse in the head while riding it!

"Horse selects the option for Friendly Fire Off."

Absolutely agree, another example I hated was that the climbing section of Nekoti Rock was locked away after the specific mission in RDR1.

The stuff you can do in story missions should absolutely be doable outside a mission too, and according tho Rob Nelson's answer, that'll be the case in RDR2.

I'm loving it!

One last post, I know it doesnt sound spot on to his regular voice. But I feel like hes at a serious part within the story where he is straining his voice a bit to deliver the speech with impact. Perhaps hes in pain at the time of the speech. Perhaps it isnt him at all. We will see in due time my friends! Either way, its wonderful voice acting. Really excited to see this story play out. Prequels usually suck, but the characters of RDR had a lot of mystery linked to their pasts. Im just so curious to learn things like how John really got his scars, how the gang fell apart, how Dutch loses his mind, and what leads them to leave John for dead. Although I hope this is just a portion of the story and the game still proposes other mysteries to intrigue us with the new characters.

John said in rdr1 he got his cars during a bear hunt gone wrong if I remember correctly. Much like Jack.
I dont think he did say that at all. As far as I know, the bear attack is merely speculation and unconfirmed.

I think he said it after he saved Jack from the grizzly.

Two characters from RDR I doubt we will see is Irish and Seth. I hope get to see Leight Johnson though. Arguably the only major character from RDR that was actually not a straight up asshole morally.

Well now that we got our long awaited news, we're just silently standing by until next month's news. The drought ironically is what kept the discussion going here. Just hundreds of pages of mindless speculation and trolls

Now that the dust has settled on last weeks info mibbie..just mibbie the riddles might start again.....

No he didn't, he doesn't tell Jack when he asks. He just says that he didn't get them from falling over in church, implying he was doing something bad when he got them.

Well, we are a month from E3 I expect to see Cyberpunk 2077, BGE2, A new Splinter Cell and the gameplay of TLOU Part II.

* I would love to see the Sons of Dutch appearance but it probably will not happen.

They finally implemented Human shield. Thank you Saints Row for influencing the king of Action Adventure- Rockstar Games to put that in their games starting with Red Dead Redemption 2.

I think they couldn't have done any better with the setting in 1899. Personally I find this the most interesting period of the waning Wild West.

Always thought 1911 was a little off for the first one. This time it's actually going to be completely realistic.

Yeah if a griz had swiped across John's face, that side of his face would have had to be sewn back on.

Never saw a bear in the 400+ hours I spent on GTA V. Also, where has it been confirmed that we can use people as human shields?

Man the RDR wiki can feel so restrictive sometimes. They will not let you add an RDR II tag to Benjamin Byron Davis page, even though Dutchs voice in the trailers is identical to his voice in the first game. It needs to be 100% confirmed by Rockstar apparently.

The Interview also confirms that there won't be procedurally generated events, as there were in Red Dead Redemption.

The Events, will rather be catered to the point in story you are and are all individually designed.

I prefer that actually, procedural generated stuff are nonsense, gaming is art and everything should be calculated.

I prefer it as well ... Red Dead Redemption II is a game where everything is hand-crafted, I love that.
