Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 2)

I don't see why people are saying there must be some massive jump in time due to Johns scars healing.

Personally I've been through 15 MASSIVE surgeries in my life from the time I was 4 years old until I was 16 that all left pretty good sized scars on my legs.

They don't take all that long to heal maybe a couple months at best before they begin to look "normal" especially if their not all that deep.

Also it could just be a design choice thing where the scars are fresh durning the mission where he receives them to put more emphasis on them but then on afterward they look as they always did.

Modern medicine Vs 1899 fam

is it just me or does this look like armadillo ?

It's valentine

Yea it's another screen of the bank robbery in Valentine. Pretty much all the shootout screens are from that mission I think.

They show someone getting a shoit in a doctors office why would disease be far fetched? you getting a shot for a gun wound?

They show a lot of things in trailers that aren't features in the game. Imagine having to go to a doctor every time you come out of a firefight, or when you get bitten by a wild animal. It's repetitive and it could become really tedious after the first few times. They could make it easily manageable by allowing you to treat disease on the road but at that point you're asking if there's any point in having diseases as a feature at all. Like Miro said, the trick is striking a balance between realism and fun and diseases are one of those things that leans heavily towards realism so the feature is never really found outside of very realistic survival games.

Everytime your horse dies guess what, have to train them all over again. Things being tedious aint nothing new with R* games. realism seems to be what they are pushing in this game. i understand there has to be a balance, i get that totally. they aren't many games that can focus on realism like R*. so the whole game the only thing you have to worry about is feeding this gang and providing money? nothing else happens in these time?

What if there's realistic elements like in far cry 2? Like guns will jam, you get get diseases, fires will realistically spread

The first two I doubt. There were some quotes where they discussed smaller animals rotting becoming annoying for the player, so you can preserve them so they last. They've also talked about the gang being able to support its self, it's not a chore you have to do. I think they want the realistic but potentially tedious things to be optional so I can't see gun jamming or diseases being a thing as they could only be mandatory and managing diseases in particular could become very tedious in a 40 or 50 hour playthrough. Gun jamming just doesn't feel great in a shooting game either IMO.

*i know feeding the gang is confirmed but i wonder can we eat playing arthur?

Is it possible that perhaps they could add difficulty modes? Like a survival mode? Similar to Fallout 4 and Skyrim? I'm aware other games have them, but they're the only 2 I have direct experience with.

Just had a cool thought. What if the edning of the game depends on your honor? If you cause a lot of havoc and have low honor, Arthur dies for example. If your honor is high you will survive. It bugged me that in RDR i had the highest possible honor on my playthrough along with fame and problably did every good thing before finishing the game, then got killed anyways. I know it was a crucial story moment but still.

You can save your horse out in the world with a medical kit, which ties into what I said about making it managable. But if you start adding these systems up it can very quickly become bloated and annoying, also if you're carrying stuff to heal your horse from injury and your self from disease then your inventory is gonna be bloated with medical supplies. It aint a feature that plays well, that's why it's such a rare feature in mainstream games, even the more realistic ones.

But who knows, it could be in the game but I feel like it's something they'd have mentioned in the previews if it was. Diseases would be a pretty big feature to omit from the first big info blowout IMO.

That could very well be a way to replenish health after a night of hunting.

Can we eat other gang members?

Yes, you can eat other gang members, even yourself...

Weren't they asked about difficulty levels by one of the media outlets and they responded with no comment? You could definitely be onto something.

GTA V had Los Santos County, Blaine County, and few towns in between along side Los Santos all in an HD San Andreas now I cannot wait to see how Big Red Dead Redemption 2 map is and the new towns.

Idk if anyone already said that, but seeing this picture of John, he looks older than in the other screenshots (more similar to RDR). So maybe during the story, we will actually go through the years

Then just check the map thread, Blood. All the towns are on the map.

since mexico is not in the game im afraid the map does not have that much variety since its only in the US, i hope you outlaws got my point

The leaked map has uh, a Spanish(?) island in it, so we might be going someplace exotic at some point in the story.

Ibiza ! EDM rave ! I'm on it !

Where are my psychedelics? I'm gonna raid Dutch's bag.

A lot of the time, the map of RDR feels larger than V. Problably because of the limited travel options and such but it just seems so bigger. Can't even comprehend the size of RDR2.

That 45 mins of play was probably not even scratching the surface for all we know.. Like you said tho it may not even be in the game, i personally just think it would add a great level of immersion to the game imo. im not asking to catch a f*ckin cold or flu. But for snake bites, infectious wounds and sh*t, i wouldn't mind going to a doctor or medicating myself on the road. Have you played GTAonline? there are cigarettes that take life from you. Also there are like 5 different items to eat just to heal yourself. Nerds, candy bars sodas..

Why are some people hating on GTA V? That game change the industry forever. We should keep the hate down a bit (well I am one of the biggest fan of GTA V here)

A lot of the complaints about V are bogus. They're either really complaining about GTA Online (which, fair enough), or mad that there was no DLC (unfortunate, but it doesn't change my opinion of the game), or way too zeroed in on a relatively trivial flaw to appreciate all the things it did so well. Others are just subjective (e.g. didn't like playing as three characters). And still others seem like younger players who started the series with IV and don't realize that V is closer to the 3D era games in spirit and tone than IV was.

Then you also see a lot of people just saying it was bad with no explanation, or that it was short (it wasn't).

Whatever the case, personally I still think V was the best GTA single player. Other games did certain things better but overall, I really liked V.

So is the game world their biggest so far or bigger than RDR, smaller than V but more dense?

I don't know if anyone brought this up recently, but I don't think that RDR2's "New Bordeaux" is based on New Orleans.

In the 1890s Nola was America's 11th largest city with a population of 242,000:

https://www.census.gov/population/www/documentation/twps0027/tab12.txt

Definitely too big for the game's map and vibe.

Probably the latter

No definite answer yet. Bigger than RDR for sure based on the leaked map. Some translations of the previews imply it's indeed the largest, others don't.

It is sure to feel the largest though, much like RDR felt huge due to no cars to drive around.

Just wanna throw this out there, haven't read all the pages yet so my bad if someone has already said this, but the rifle in the screen shot of Sadie or Arthur isn't "gold", it's brass. Sorry, I seen a few replies about it and it was bugging me. Lol

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed, but I was thinking about the new info regarding hunting and how we have to carry our kill on the horse. While this works with deer and smaller animals, I wonder how it'll work with larger game like a bear, a cougar, an aligator, etc. R* is aiming for realism with this so I'm not sure how he's gonna lift a huge dead animal onto the back of his horse.

Maybe we'll be able to attach a wagon to our horse and carry back multiple large kills.

Thoughts?

i know v is a huge game, but after realizing how much more work r* put into rdr2 from what weve known so far, it just makes V seem so much less insignificant.

That saloon resembles the Thieves' Landing one.

This has a staircase, whereas you couldn't access the second floor of the thieves landing saloon
