They're showing John a lot which means that he's gonna be a major character in the game, Hell, I'm sure he'll become the playable character after Arthur's "Savage" death.

It was confirmed that you don't ever switch characters

 

They won't just spoil the game, They didn't even reveal the antagonists in GTAV's trailers, that's how secretive they are. Arthur will definitely die, that's the most realistic reason of his absence in RDR1

I'm not talking about the character switch that was in GTA 5, I'm saying that Arthur will die and then you'll switch to John, like in RDR1 where John died and we switched to Jack. Like I said, they won't just reveal everything and spoil the game. That's how they roll. Look at John's face in that screen, Like StJimmy said, his scars are healed. deep scars like that take months or years to heal. which means that the game will switch times.

Rockstar Studios is not a legal entity just a unification banner for their 9 studios with 1,500 developers across 3-4 continent. However I think Rockstar Studios could become a legal entity in future after Rockstar Games becomes an independent publicly traded company.

I like how John's scars are not in stitches. I think you probably link up with John after the Blackwater massacre before he has his scars. This shot is probably later in the game.

 

What I mean by meeting up with John is I think what goes down in Blackwater means most of the gang is killed and as you cross over the mountains it becomes about building the gang back up. From hiring old people who use to run with Dutch, to getting new outlaws to join. You have to remember Jack Marston is 4 in 1899. So maybe John had a bit of retirement after his son was born. I figure after Blackwater you head to Beecher's Hope to lay low for a bit and John joins back up with you. After that you cross into the mountains and hook up with Sadie and start gathering a new posse.

I don't see why people are saying there must be some massive jump in time due to Johns scars healing.

 

Personally I've been through 15 MASSIVE surgeries in my life from the time I was 4 years old until I was 16 that all left pretty good sized scars on my legs.

 

They don't take all that long to heal maybe a couple months at best before they begin to look "normal" especially if their not all that deep.

 

Also it could just be a design choice thing where the scars are fresh durning the mission where he receives them to put more emphasis on them but then on afterward they look as they always did.
