AC: Origins was an incredible game and did a lot to restore my faith in Ubisoft. After Unity & Watch Dogs I didn't even bother with Syndicate as I was so disheartened by the quality of their games, but Origins is probably the best game I played in 2017, and so far in 2018.

As for the history tour, I've not actually tried this in Origins yet but I love the concept. I think the trouble with this kinda thing in RDR would be the lack of 'reality' - Origins is based in real world locations with real landmarks and history (minus some story based 'artistic freedom').

RDR, like most Rockstar games is based in a fictional universe, and although it does borrow inspiration from the real world, I don't think it will to the level of the GTA franchise, e.g. the towns and settlements aren't going to be historically accurate. For this reason, the history tour concept wouldn't really work.

Sure you could have a few general facts about the west and how people typically lived their lives, but I think the day to day NPCs and environment would convey these well enough to not require any further explanation.

Guys I have to say/ask... do you think rockstar while developing RDR2 has been watching other games and getting inspiration from them too? Like as an example if that leak was correct, one of the new features of dead eye sounded similar to HZD... anyways my point/question is DAMN assassins creed origins is amazing in so many ways and this educational discovery mode of the world has me at a loss for words tbh. People dont even have the right to trash on ubisoft anymore even after this game alone. Their attention to detail is fascinating this time around much like R* so it just gets me thinking... i hope rockstar has seen this idea of discovery tour as cool and innovative because much like egyptian culture, the west is FULL of history and interesting things to see and speak about.. i would love for rockstar to make their own discovery tour no combat mode to just have a tour of the world of RDR2 and the real history behind the guns and historial locations of the game and all that. Im telling yall this is so f*cking cool and i hope rockstar still pays attention to these other ideas that are worth implementing, like the one i just said! It would be so cool to have that as an option, really makes you appreciate the detail just walking through the game which we all know R* started that immense detail route for other developers to come. They would do a feature like this best imo.

Every game developer does this... Max Payne was the first game with bullet time aka slow-no and now almost every game has it! Nothing is 100% original Edited by mombo2811

Ahh yeah good point. Its like the west has lots of history but not so much lore i guess you could say? Lore is what makes all the difference like the hieroglyphs, rituals, etc of egypt. The closest thing i could think of with extensive wild west lore would be from the native tribes, their culture and spiritual sides of stuff. But yeah its definitely a great idea, i have no doubt theyll figure something innovative out to show how amazing their new world is. Even if there is no separate no combat mode or narrator ill still go into RDR2 like i shoulda the first time with red dead. Walk sometimes with no gun just look at the world created for the detail R* is known for :D take your time

The history of the west is so young in comparison to Egypt. The West has very little recorded history to offer because human civilization has only been building in the west since settlers arrived a few hundred years ago. I mean the natives have interesting history before settlers, but not to the extent of Egyptians with their pyramids and mass civilizations.

They called it Origins because all humans originated and evolved from North Africa. The history is SOOO rich there. Dating back thousands on thousands of years in comparison to Western history which only dates back a few hundred. That's what is so cool about European, African and Asian countries. Their history is so much deeper than the history of the US and Canada. Before settlers arrived in the west, people weren't building any extravagant buildings or pyramids or establishing mass civilizations like they did thousands of years ago in other continents.

So yeah, some things would be cool with a tour mode in RDR, but it just wouldn't go as deep as Origins went. There's just not THAT much to show for our history here in the West.

I think there's plenty of Old West history. Hell, Deadwood alone would make for an awesome virtual tour. I mean, people take tours of it in real life and it looks nothing like it did back in the day.

There's definitely plenty of history, but not at all to the extent of other continents. But as mentioned in TwsitedMedia's comment, most of the history can be accurately and sufficiently conveyed in actual game play. Again, western civilization is not very old at all let alone the Wild West. The period of what most call "the Wild West" was from 1865 - 1895, a period of thirty years. The same reason there's never any major treasure hunting movies set in the US. There's no ancient civilizations that existed in the US or Canada. The little history that there is can be summed up in actual game play whereas Origins requires a tour mode to convey everything because it actually goes that deep and game play cannot sum all of it up.

Meh,it's not even about open-worlds anymore.

It's more about story and characters, which I feel R* can never pull off.Sure they've had some okay-good characters and story(mainly IV and RDR),but the other games were some stereotypes and nothing more.

One thing I would Like R* to improve at,is their story game.Besides Niko and John,I honestly barely cared about anyone, and that f*ck*ng sucks,as I can't even feel the emotional part of the game.Like for example when Michael's family is in danger in V,do you really expect me to view that as serious sotry-telling when they were near-damn killing each other?

I'm Canadian myself, and I'm always jealous of my European, African and Asian friends because where they come from has such deep and rich history. Ours goes back a few hundred years and before then, no major civilization. Pretty boring for historians lol.

Im sure theres some interesting parts of Canadian history, just you have to go to France and England to see the really old stuff. i guess its french history then though. idk. lol. but then again all i really know about Canada is Rick Mercer, universal healthcare, Crown Royal, and that yall are apparently "technically" still under the queen's rule?

Then again by that logic all of our histories converge somewhere in the past. probably sub-Saharan south Africa. so its not just the european and africans and asians and stuff, its all of us together as humans. It's our history, yo.

Yeah all of those things are true. We also have Drake but no one really acknowledges that? Not that it matters lmao. Yeah Canadian and American History are very similar. Settlers came a few hundred years ago, raped and murdered natives and established our civilization. However French History would be much deeper than that because it existed for much longer than Canadian civilization. Like there is only so many significant historical moments that you can fit in a few hundred years. But in places like Egypt, there is LOADS of historical significance because it dates back tens of thousands of years with mass populated civilizations. Which to me is really cool. Americans and Canadians don't realize how young our countries really are. There's not much historical significance here.

The theory that all humans come from Africa is pretty much debunked by now. Meso American culture also dates back 1000's of years. Maya's, Inca's and Aztecs also had these huge pyramids where they performed human sacrifices and they came from hunter gatherer tribes from southeast asia when the continents were still stuck together.

But I agree though that ancient Egyptian culture and myths are much much richer. Part why they were so well documented was because of how ancient Greeks documented so much about Egypt.

That's not totally true as the last supercontinent was Gondwana and fell apart until 30 million years ago. The human race is so young compared to this.. I just looked it up but the first 'human-like' species are estimated to have lived around 4 million years ago. Takes a loooong time to split some continents man haha. But I dont know either where the aztecs and mayas came from? Maybe the early Mexican inhabitants? Damn this forums produces some deep discussions haha.

OT then: GIVE ME MY INFO! Will this week be a good week or will we have to wait another week longer?

No no no :D my bad, I meant the ocean was frozen over due to an ice age. Like that America an Asia were conected. Mayas, incas and aztecs come from ancient southeast asian tribes that settled in the Americas. They migrated to the American continent via that temporary ice route. I guess that also explains why they look very similar.

Is Rockstar the only company that uses motion capture on horses? I've never seen another game that had drive at least similar to RDR.

Sucker Punch is also doing mocap on horses for Ghost of Tsushima. This is from their PSX panel:

I always find myself really rooting for Rockstar's main characters mainly because they do such a good job of making most of the mission givers either total douche bags or super annoying.

Niko's the only one who really didn't work for me. He seemed to be truly remorseful for all the horrible things he'd done in his past but throw the guy a couple bucks and he'll murder anyone you point him at. He'll even slaughter everyone who gets in his way for free. I almost wish they had just thrown a line or two in about him having a split personality disorder or something.

I like that they're at least trying to give their characters some depth though. I'm hoping that with Arthur we see him actually grow and evolve as a person throughout the course of the game. Rockstar's never really had a protagonist with a genuine character arch and from what we've seen of Arthur he looks like he could finally be the one.

Meh, at least it's healthy conversation. Better than the typical page after page of people repeating when they think we're gonna get information and repeating their speculation on a game informer cover. And it's leagues better than "OMG a Tuesday is happening again this has to be the day!"

"Ac origins better than any Rockstargames"🤔😒...🤣😂🤣😂. Thank god its just a opinion. A publisher that release 4 to 5 games a (year) you would think these games would win awards for something or stand out in some way. Nope, just reused mechanics, sh*tty forgettable stories, bad actors and corny ass characters. Ubish*t games looks good to the easy to impress. Ac origins didn't do sh*t any other open world game hasn't done for the past 20 years. Ghost reacon? 😂..

I hope we get a slipcover or limited edition with artwork etc. Would be nice.

I want one of those expensive collectors editions that always come with crazy sh*t. When Mafia III came out they were selling one that came with a record player and some vinyls of the soundrack. looked nice, it was black and red. I also would like an RDR edition PS4 pro.

With all of that, especially the bold text, I aggressively agree.

In my opinion, the only impressive, and entertaining things, in Origins, are the beautiful vistas and the well-crafted map assets, especially when looking from the distance. That alone doesn't pass me when the story and characters are cringeworthy and boring, coupled with the typical Ubisoft's map, HUD and menus that are littered with markers and pointless objectives.

Assassin's Creed Origins recreated and made Ancient Egypt one of the best playgrounds to play on.

But what would you know since you have never played it.
