Just looks like he dyed his hair to me, maybe a little bit of plastic surgery in the mix as well.

to me House is more for easy listening, not exactly for the total club experience. I have been to quite a few events and I didnt see much dancing when house track is playing in the club.ย

Youโ€™ve never really experienced House, especially when it was at its peak in the 80โ€™s and 90โ€™s, when it was a predominantly Black/Latino or heavily mixed crowd. Those years were the prime years for House music and dance culture. Being from NYC, where House dance culture is deeply rooted, every event was a never ending party where you would see some of the best dancers from all five boroughs come out and hit up the hottest spots. And when I say never-ending, I literally mean it. Unlike Hip-Hop clubs that shut down around 4-5am, House clubs would stay open until noon. Ravesย just went on...ย You left when you left or the police were tipped off and they closed shop.ย

ย

Fromย Lofterโ€™s, Jackerโ€™s, Voguerโ€™s, and Chicagoโ€™s signature style,ย Footwork, everybody danced. If you didnโ€™t know how to dance, 100% of the time you would let the music control you and make you dance. Thatโ€™s how all of us club-heads, especially House-heads,ย did it. You donโ€™t take classes to learn how to dance it, you let it move you. Usually the club goersย back then that practiced, practiced to battle other dancers in what we called ciphers. There would be like 5 or 6 ciphers going on at once with male and female dancers killing it on the dance floor. Witnessing all of this and seeing my friends dance was how I got into dancing. You couldnโ€™t escape it.ย

ย

The House,ย Techno,ย and Rave scenes were through the roof. During those yearsย everyone wanted to be a dancer and because of that, a lot of people followed suit. Hip-House emerged when Hip-Hop dancers started hitting up House Clubs and tracks like Jack Your Body, and Stomp gained popularity. Jacking is the style of dance the Hip-Hop heads created when dancing to House, which is also the most popular style of traditional house dances and the youngest, second would be vogue. Lofting,ย however, is the original style which was danced at the iconic LOFT nightclub, which was a predominantly gay Black and Latino nightclub. Lofting is demanding on the body and for that reason, you donโ€™t commonly see people do it anymore. Everyone wants to dance, but doesnโ€™t want to be a gymnast. For me, Lofting and Footwork are my favorite styles. Jacking is too common and mainstream for me. Voguing is fun to watch.ย

ย

90โ€™s NYC club scene wasย the Peter โ€œKing of New York Clubsโ€ Gatienย era. He owned nearly all the major clubs like Tunnel, The Limelight, Palladium, Club USAย etc. House music was never for easy listening until Larry Heard created the style knownย asย โ€œDeepโ€, which is what deep House originally is. Now the term is generic and applied toย everything people think is deep house music, when 90% of the time itโ€™s not. I grew up in the dance culture of Hip-Hop and House music, so my experience is the complete antithesis of yours.

ย

Good parties are still out there, youโ€™re just in the wrong environment with the wrong DJโ€™s. Attend a Masters At Work event or Theo Parrish or Pepe Braddock or even a Danny Tenagliaย party and your experience will change greatly.ย
