If anyone is interested into the testing procedures at Rockstar Games for GTA Online, I found something interesting on this article written about game developers and their roles in their titles.

It is written by VG247, so a credible source.

 

It does not include a lot of "new" information, but perhaps the fact that they have been testing sell missions again, is ... interesting?

Anyway I found it interesting, and it didn't warrant a seperate thread, so I post it here in case anyone else is interested how QA Staff at Rockstar North works:

Anon:Work history is just mundane bar and retail jobs before I graduated from University, then joined Rockstar QA. I like video games beyond all reason, finding every wee bit interesting no matter how weird. Probably sounds very boilerplate but I just love those wee tricks devs use to make mechanics work (a lot of trees in older games are just 2d rotating sprites that constantly face you, evident while flying in Far Cry 3 and you look down), or engine quirks.

What does the role involve?

The role involved testing along a test sheet of basic scenarios they knew would throw bugs, and keeping an eye out for anything happening otherwise. Because it was open world GTA Online, we’d use a cheat menu to gift ourselves the sh*t we needed to test, but sometimes that would birth bugs of their own. Also had to be aware of what others were doing in the server, as we live tested with a couple of separate QA teams. Had to keep track of a bonkers amount of info at once.

Can you give us a specific example of what you might be responsible for?

A specific responsibility might be handling payments after sell missions. You tool up your business to have X product, then you get other testers to go do the mission while you note all the variables (product being sold, from where, mission difficulty, how many players in server, if any product gets damaged/lost), then trawl through the figures given to us by design on how much those missions should pay out, to make sure the correct amount is taken. Notepads, spreadsheets and shouting across the room to keep track of it all, and a keen eye needed to see any wacky behaviour happening.

GTA V has never been officially banned in Australia. It's rated R18+, which means you must be 18 or over to buy it. A couple of fruitcake retailers (owned by the same parent company) decided to stop stocking it though. I don't think gambling being added to the game would be a problem here, given the rating, although it might need to be resubmitted for classification ( I'm not sure).

I have a little question.

Do you think that the casino doesn't to open because it's considarate like a online money game ?

Most likely at the beginning. But now casino is closed because it's way too much work for remaining Online dev team.Firstly, it's not online gambling for there's no way to generate actual wealth in reality because it's virtual and not tangible. So, that is not the reasoning because there's already ways to bet money in both GtaOnline and Red Dead's multiplayer.

 

Secondly, we as a gaming community have no idea how much of a team Rockstar has dedicated to GtaOnline so please stop acting like we know.

 

In Rockstar's interview around heist release they stated GtaOnline forced North to restructure itself to fully focus on online for the entire studio and that no SP was expected to occur. That was the only time the public had an inclination on how much of Rockstar North (the entirety at the time) was dedicated to GtaOnline.

You can still purchase the ingame money with real currency and you have no control over the outcome of the bet. When you bet on a race in gta it is dertermined by your skill if you win or loose, when you play a casino game its determined by luck (or potentially rigged machines).

Do ppl really think if r* ever did add casinos to the game, they would actually let you make good money from them Best case scenario imo is if they added pvp poker/blackjack, but even then they would put entry fees and low max bets to thwart ppl using it to give cash to friends. It would be a lose-lose for r*. If they let ppl win it cuts into sharkcard revenue and encourages ppl to gamble. If its really hard to win public outcry on social media would be severe, and ppl would label it a sharkcard cashgrab. It would be perfect for sp, but that ship has prob sailed. On a side note the fact that you cant win actual money from the game makes it less irl gambling than loot boxes of other games, unless they lock exclusive content behind the casino. Either way i doubt its a legal issue, except in countries like china n north korea maybe.

I'd just settle for a casino heist really.

Since we aren't getting a SP DLC.... at least make a new place we can pull off Heists at!

 

A casino would be fun for SP as I could gamble away and have fun, not having to worry about wasting valuable cash Online. Cause I don't glitch like some people... I'm not told/aware until they're patched.

Thinking about the new vehicles and their handling flags it might actually be considered gambling buying a fish card to buy them

In GTA SA I once come to casino with only 10k, and put all my last money on the table and get away with 300k+ after one bet. Problem here you could forget to play normally with Casino and probably that's why it's potentially a loss for SC to sale. Plus enough bums in irl, I guess there is no good reason to farm them in GTA online. Or another DLC for hot coffee mini games at Bahama mama toilets to earn cash.
