If theyre at least ending updates before Red dead 2 then they should at least add something for the billionaires like owning that missile silo in doomsday heist. Making it work

For f*cks sake they're not ending updates for GTAO, why can't you get this through your head? They have a roadmap for Online that extends far beyond RDR2's release. Wheres the sauce.

I gotta say, I hear a lot of people confidently saying things on both sides of this debate with no sauce. There are always rumors that the next update is the last one, and rumors (as well as a little common sense) indicating that they'll keep putting out updates until the game is a lot less profitable than it is now. But neither side really KNOWS. So let's chill out with berating each other, eh?

It's just another loading screen and some modeled interiors afterward. Don't see why we couldn't have mansions, with complete business manageability inside.

No I'm not making this up, they've actually said GTAO will continue beyond RDR2 as they exist separate from one another. And common sense would tell you the same thing really, why would they kill off a money maker like this so soon, while it's at its peak? Anyways here's the "sauce"..

Using simple logic is that R* will continue with updates to GTAO as long as it is profitable. At the same time they most likely are looking into how they will take this with GTA6/GTAO2 because just as they discontinued updates to PS3/XBOX360 i believe they will stop updating GTAO when GTAO2 finally arrives.

A lot of people forget that a R* employee gave an interview recently and said they planned on continuing the free content.

It's just another loading screen and some modeled interiors afterward. Don't see why we couldn't have mansions.

Depends what they try to do with them. The simplest approach would be to take some of the big houses around the map that aren't already used for missions/jobs, slap on a couple new interiors, and call it a day. Just do them apartment style. But a lot of the mansions have grounds - pool, tennis court, external car port, stuff like that - that would be useless (and worse, very dangerous) if the properties were shared the way all the other ones are. There are ways they could instance the entire property, perhaps, but it's technically intricate and would be very new and weird for this game if they did it.

If they don't want to do either of those things (make us share the exterior, or instance it somehow), then they would have to patch new mansions into the map that are built specifically for us to be able to live in. That obviously means a lot more work.

The other aspect is that they likely would want to offer some new content of some kind, not just what amounts to a bigger and more expensive apartment. And of course new content requires more dev hours, whether it's a new business you run out of your mansion, mini-games like a pool table, or whatever it might be. The kind of thing that strongly incentivizes players to want a mansion (other than the status symbol aspect) means it would become a lot more complicated to make.

A lot of people also have never seen that, period. We're not all on this forum 24/7 (although in my case it probably seems like I am :D ). Anyway, thanks for sauce! This lines up with what I was already expecting. I do think the updates will thin out (fewer of them per year) soon, but I don't expect them to stop until either people stop playing GTA:O or GTA VI is about to come out.

They'll start adding steampunk stuff to RDR2 at some point, and you know when that thing starts, but not when or where it ends.......

No, not only horses and clothes.

As long as we dont get something like a Wild Wild West giant mechanical spider I am okay.

Well, seeing as how we know R* likes to put in as little effort as possible (Classic Jester) but still try and make out like bandits. I'm gonna go with the first option you laid out as the possibility. Take the already existing places, add a loading screen, model some interiors and be done with it. If it happens, that would be where me money is.

But you did lay out some interesting problems associated with that idea, so R* may have to go the "hard way" if they want to do it at all. Which also might mean it'll never happen. Kinda irritating tbh, they've made billions of dollars and STILL take the lazy way out if they can, smh.

That's pretty much my take. I'd love to have a mansion (I'm into the status symbols, what can I say) but I just think it's too much of a nuisance for them to do it right. And if they were going to do the basic version (just a new apartment-style interior and a blue circle on the front step), I think they would have done it already. It's been one of the most-requested enhancements since the game first came out, I'm quite sure they're aware how many people want it.

So either they're never going to do it, or - the lesser possibility - they've really worked on something cool and complex, and it will come eventually. I'm not putting my money on that second option, but not totally ruling it out either. I think the least likely version is actually the apartment-style mansion with just a new interior and no new features associated with it. First because they could have done that long ago without much trouble, and second because I think they've realized in the last few years that that kind of addition doesn't sell shark cards the way new properties with actual purpose to them do.

I would bet good money that the next GTA Online (GTA:O 2) has mansion-style properties built into it from the start. Don't think they ever anticipated people really wanting them, or the map and the existing mansions would have been designed a bit differently.

"A R* employee" is ...erm, underselling it a bit! :pp

Imran Sarwar is the director of design for the entire company - formerly lead mission designer, head of the GTAO team since launch, associate producer on many R* titles, and effectively Beslie Lenzies' successor (for good or for ill...)

Yeah, it could just be a BS PR statement, because telling players "once RDR2 comes out, GTAO is yesterday's news" effectively writes off the game as being on the way out, while saying "not to worry, updates will carry on" sounds like there's no end in sight.

I mean, updates could mysteriously dry up after this next thing - but because the guy in charge says "more stuff is coming, promise!", people will stick with the game and hold out for some nebulous 'next' update for ages, just like how people held out for the single-player expansion that was "definitely coming", because "R* said so".

...to be fair, I reckon updates will continue at least until the end of the year - and personally, I reckon that the post-launch state of 'Red Dead Online' or whatever will be what decides the fate of future GTAO content. As in, if players flock to RDO and it's another ongoing success, then R* might deem it worth moving most/all their focus to that instead of GTAO. If, however, people don't stick with RDR2 beyond the main single-player game, then they've always got the established money-spinner of GTAO on which to fall back.

wrong. they cant put endless content into gta 5. gta 6 will have no chance to compete with gta 5 or it will take 20 years to make. all manpower has to go into reddead and gta 6. gta 5 content updates will end in 2018.

Yeah I will quote you on that when gta VI trailer drops...

In all those years of gtaonline they didn't put anything that could compare with new gta game with new story.

You think gta San Andreas could compete with gta IV if SA had endless updates like we have now? ofc not... New gen will always win.

And adding content to gtaonline only means that they have more ideas that they can reuse, remade and resell as "classics" in next game.

Nah... people would complain about the lack of story mode. But I can see them using our online character as the third protagonist. That way by the end of SP everyones invested and wants to continue the story in online. Edited by Piro

Yeah but, not as many people are into Cowboys and Indians, as they are into urban street life and modern cultural settings. So pretty sure the game that is going to have the higher player base is still going to get updates until GTA VI. The release of Red Dead isn't going to put an end to GTAO in the slightest.

Just for the record, I'm into Cowboys and Indians and can't wait for RDR2.

All I want from RDR/RDR2 other than the Double Action revolver is a recurve bow. Knowing R*, they would add a crossbow or something equally lame. Crossbows are for fat people and the disabled, any legit bow would be welcome TBF.

They literally show Arthur using a bow in the trailer.

Congrats wish granted.

Edit: Nevermind, I realize after rereading your statement you meant "from RDR2" as in added to GTA Online, not "from RDR2" as in, you hope to see one in RDR2.

I very much doubt they will add it to GTA, would require new animations.

What I want is some goofy idea implemented such as playing RDR2 online would unlock "DUAL WIELD" for GTA online. That'd be dope as f**k. Seriously though? Double pistol battles sound cool as hell.
