but plz do explain to me using your "logic" how come in a world with:

- flying cars

- flying bikes

- explosive ammo

- aliens and ufos

- military prototype aircrafts that look like ufos

- FIB ufos

- railguns

- AI with army of robots

- Bigfoots, beasts, ghosts

a flying secret base that can hover is "thematically too unrealistic" for this game right now? This game is now way more unrealistic then marvel movies.

I get your chrystianizm about the shift of a GTAs theme but that ship sailed a looooong time ago.

Oh boi... I get where you coming from. I know you don't want it and you have a good reason for not wanting it and not likening it

It kind of sailed, yeah. I don't like how GTA moved towards this crap, and hope that the next installment doesn't jump the shark like this did. That said, a flying helicarrier is more wacky than a lot of the stuff you listed simply because a lot of those are either easter eggs or limited to certain missions/out of the way.

Essentially, GTAO's aesthetic and theme right now is a dumpster fire. Adding even more wacky stuff "because it's already silly" is like throwing gasoline onto it; GTAO is already a lost cause for me but if updates head in a more traditional direction people may gravitate back to it.

What GTA games have you been playing!? Every single GTA that isn't GTA 4 is an ABSURDLY unrealistic, over the top, cartoon parody of Hollywood movies. It's not a "crime simulator" never was, never should be. Its about fun, freedom, and chaos. An open world sandbox with tons of things to do. It's rated M-mature because you need to actually be mature to get the humor, to understand it isnt a celebration of criminal life but a darkly comical mockery of crime as portrayed by Hollywood. Saying it needs to represent real world car models above everything or it will some how lose its identity is just as ridiculous as saying it needs military vehicles only. It NEEDS variety and things to do and it needs to be fun. I feel like people who push the "But muh gritty realism" mantra don't understand GTA at all. Traditional GTA, for me, involves the evil Zaibatsu Corp and their remotely activated sleeper cell janitor assassins in anywhere city, USA, 13 years in the future, or causing a State of Emergency, or going on a drug fueled rampage.

I feel people worrying about about GTA's identity tie the game to their own projected identity which is why their conversations quickly devolve into identity politic bs. "It's our turn now, my group of people. Your group shouldn't get what you want and im offended you want it. You probably get your mom to buy you shark cards, that's why they feature meme-vehicles, you are children, that's why you dont have my sophisticated, super mature, sensibilities when it comes to videogame choice"

Truth is, shark cards are probably bought buy adults with jobs who don't have time to grind. Meme vehicles exist because of the pc modding communities successes, and saying GTA needs to return to realism should disqualify people from conversations involving GTA.

Guess everyone's getting 1.35m then regardless of how much money they spent over the last week? Or is the rebate and 250k bonus separate from this "loyalty" bonus?

Wait, so this 1.35 mill is seemingly unrelated to the stimulus/rebate? Ugh, why do I get the feeling that this is going to cause some false positives that lead to innocent players being banned (especially on PC)? Going by the details in the offer, 1.35 is 100k more than should be possible, right?

I also got 1.35 mil (PC)

sorry to go back to that 1.35 mil bonus :

did you all really get the money in your bank account ? like I said , I recieved the message but no money on my banc account (yet) . and I suppose those 1.35 mil were not the bonus + tax refund that we should get , I actually should recieve around 250+310+140= 700k for my akula&savestra+ the bonus ....

maybe it was a false alarm , as I didn´t buy a shark card last week ?

Forget every vehicle, we need a skateboard!

that won't happen. To much work with new animations and psychics. If they didn't add sidecars to bikers then a skateboard is a pipedream

Yeah true that, it was a bit too much of wishful thinking lol

A bit more realistic wish then and probably mentioned before: the Go-Kart

Just a thought.. isn't the first dlc of the year usually a smaller one? Would you really want tuners and outlaws to be "small" and then have some other gr, Sr, or ddh style update come after and be huge? Versus a small naval dlc and then a bigger tuners and outlaws dlc?

looks like you had a glitch or something. Contact R* support maybe?

- I got the message

- I got the money added to my account

- I never bought a SharkCard

but my account was unjustifiably wiped before smugglers run (like many others). I don't think thats related to this tho.

They can't expand the map without spending a while developing (about couple of months) so an easier thing to do for them would to be opening certain interiors (not ones that'd interfere with SP, like protagonist houses) and aren't already properties, so for example the chicken factory interior in Paleto Bay.

Also, adding the full-on Aircraft Carrier to freemode and activating similiar military base routines for it (4 star, jets and AA after you) would be great, and for military reinforcements, I believe that military helicopters should spawn and pursue the player when on the carrier (unarmed helicopters mind you, or the Savage but the pilot can't shoot at you).

I don't think the Dignity or the GR yacht would fit in freemode since players can already get their own yachts, but they could add the Dignity and spawn hostile gang members on it... maybe make it a functional gang attack? That'd be sick!

However, the best content that'd rejuvenate GTA:O for the better is to introduce a player contact mission creator, they already got a system in place that is not easily exploited (time-based missions) and they could easily introduce a new part to it. Simply adding a contact mission creator would easily make contact missions some of the most fun modes in GTA:O (imagine making a military based mission). I seriously hope R* would be considering this (it's ofc on their radar) but it'd be less unlikely compared to a map expansion.

Well it's worth keeping in mind that some people here most likely never played a GTA game before IV. The last major GTA game before IV (San Andreas) was released in 2004 - it's 14 years old now. A 20 year old player today was way under the suggested age to play that game. Nothing wrong with basing your impression of the franchise on the only games that came out in the last decade (or on the most recent two generations of hardware, for that matter). 3D era is ancient history at this point, like GTA top-down fans lecturing Vice City players about what the series is "really" about (except those games were only 5 years apart, not 14!).

Beyond that, we don't talk about this subject correctly, ever. Everybody wants to cast it as realism vs. fantasy, but only because that's an easy argument to win (especially if you're on the pro-fantasy side). Obviously GTA is not realistic. Even the most realistic one, IV, still let you slaughter hundreds of people, whip an RPG out of your butt, and so forth. It's a video game set in a heightened parody of America, so of course it has a distant relationship with reality at best.

What's really going on is a continuum, and where you draw the line on that continuum is subjective. Some people just want an online version of IV with nothing more outlandish than that. Some people are OK with almost anything that is based on real-world vehicles and weapons, as long as it more or less fits the game's theme of gangs, mid-level criminality, and a little military content. Some people are fine with flying rocket cars and rocket bikes and orbital strikes. All three groups are just drawing the line somewhere different - and all three groups would probably unite in thinking that an update goes too far if you can buy a flying unicorn that shoots rainbows, and now your character can be one of six different mythological creatures.

In other words, just saying "it's GTA, it's not realistic" is not an automatically-successful defense of ANY kind of outlandish, fantastical content. Just accept that some people see the game differently from you and your boundaries are not in the same place as theirs. Rockstar loves stretching what is allowed in GTA, and they've never done it half as much as they are right now with Online; that's naturally gonna put some people off. (Me, I don't care too much except for when those flying cars are raining rockets on me - that's when it gets annoying.)

Are we expecting the update to drop next Tuesday or the Tuesday after next week?

the most likely case is the 13th,but there are some arguments why next week could also be a (smaller) possibility.

i however think that it will release the 13th,with a teaser on the news wire very soon.

It seems like they did some work on Liberty City as far back as 2015 or so, though. Well, depending on how trustworthy the source/leak was back then, that is. I don't think it's an impossibility that they have, or at least partially have, a "remastered" Liberty City that could possibly be implemented into Online. The question, I think, is more like why they never implemented it as of yet.

Cool. Meanwhile you have a bunch of people in this very thread saying they love the water and would appreciate more stuff to do out there,[...]

Im totally fine with giving these people new stuff to do out there. I simply think that it wont be enough for a full dlc and that the majority of the players would not give a f*ck about more waterbased activities because of the limitations of the map.

I mean, people didn't go outside the city that much until there were bunkers and businesses up there, either. The desert is not inherently interesting compared to the city. It's up to the game to give us reasons to visit all its nooks and crannies. As far as I'm concerned, anything that spreads people out is a good thing.

People still dont go outside of the city that often. I can count the amount of times I have seen more than 5 people (not in the same biker club, not doing a source/sale together) out there in a full/nearly full lobby on one hand.

Other than the sourcing and selling missions (wich dont let you choose where you go) there is still not much of interest north of the vinewood hills, for most players.

I spend FAR MORE time in the country, on the mountains, and in the water than I ever will in the city.

The city is a war zone full of idiots that are so easily satisfied with just killing each other non-stop.

I find that gameplay boring as hell after about 15 minutes.

I want to explore, get lost, discover hidden areas, grow crops, run businesses, etc..

NOT PLAY BATTLEFIELD

I own battlefield and play it from time to time, and I like it, but why does this game have to try and be that game???

I don't put much stock in that "leak," but I will say this: if they worked on it, it would take a very long time for them to convert it over, replace all the textures, and then fill it with content and stuff to do. That's all a project of months or maybe years, depending how many developers they assign to work on it.

It's also possible that even if that is real and came from a Rockstar artist, it still isn't what we think it is. It's clearly a conversion of a small part of LC to the V engine and graphics, but that doesn't necessarily mean they converted the entire city, or that they were planning on dropping the city into Online.

Wow, quite a bit of fighting over the possibility of a boat/nautical DLC...

Anyway, I'm not too confident we'll get an announcement or hint tomorrow about the next DLC. I think we won't hear anything until next week.

Yes it is true that would take couple years at least.

but the thing is - we have no proof that R* "did some work on LC" in the first place... Thats just a gif from one guys portfolio.

- it could be something he did just for himself (people make hd versions of old maps all the time)

- it could be something that he did when he was trying to get a job at R*

- it could be something he did to troll people

- it could be something that R* wanted him to do just to test his skills before hiring him. "Heres a chunk of a map. Show us how you would improve it"

Same things happens when you try to get a job as an animator for example. You get a storyboard and couple samples and then you have to animate it accurately. Something small just to test your skills.

Indeed, after reading all of the past few pages (all that in 10 hours!) I came to a very similar conclusion. It has always been a ridiculous argument that GTA needs to be "realistic," thematically or mechanically, because the themes have often been over-the-top. Even simulator games don't go "full" realism - I'd like to see Train Simulator with a bladder fullness meter, or any survival sim deal with insects and more in-depth environmental effects upon the human body.

The main problem is, and has always been, when and where does the game stop being fun. That is the problem people face when they're on the other end of another player's sights - the game can quickly go from fun (or the pursuit of fun, however dull) to "wasted my time for nothing." In a singleplayer or PvE environment, the player is aware of what they're getting into, and so are not irritated when the game starts throwing enemies at them. That is the point of the game, for the player to want to test their skill against something they have an idea about. When players are pitted against one another in a multiplayer environment with no assurances, it becomes much less controlled, much more bothersome for a player to have fun without interruption. With the addition of table-flipping items like the Deluxo or Hunter or Oppressor, the players who just want to go about their business become underpowered, unwilling targets.

That is the crux of the weaponized vs. unweaponized argument, and the reason so many people don't want more overpowered, outlandish toys added (and, too, the people who do want more want them for a similar reason). When somebody's fun is ruined (or, worse, their time is wasted), they want to blame what caused it, and rightly so. The first thing that comes to mind is, hopefully, always the player, who so often is generalized into a "tryhard" or a "troll" or "griefer" on these forums, but is really just another player looking for fun in all the wrong places. Second is their tool - their Deluxo, Oppressor, Akula, or Orbital Strike - and that is a much more reachable target to criticize. It's easier to say "Rockstar, I want this balanced!" than "God, I want you to smite this person!"

In the pursuit of "realism" for GTA, that died in 1997. But the playerbase has been settled on the zany action film theme for so long, going full sci-fi or fantasy would serve as a far too dramatic shift for many people. Would everybody quit playing because "this isn't GTA anymore!"? No, it would attract new people, and many would stay without giving it a second thought. But for GTA... I don't know that anybody would be comfortable considering it the same game as it was in 2004 or 2008.
