Next DLC Speculation Thread (Part 4)

Some of you in here act as if the item you want will never come.

Better clothes? Gameplay additions that aren't just iterations on the FAFF formula? Tuners/muscle cars?

Considering the trajectory of the game over the last several updates, and judging by the hints in that recent Newswire article, I'm not getting my hopes up that R*'s going to do anything different between now and next year, so... :/

I don't think that comment was about DLC we could get/want to get in general out of all the possible content ideas that one could imagine.

I viewed it as an assessment of the drip-feed and the known items of the Smuggler's Run DLC that still have yet to drip. Including but not limited to the Hunter, Vigilante, Cyclone, etc. These Smuggler's Run items are the specific features players expected to drip today. It didn't and now players are mad. This is what is causing the outrage today and all the salt, not just the lack hypothetical DLC in general. The drip-feed schedule is off.

Otherwise people wouldve had this same energy yesterday or this weekend. So in the context of the Smuggler's Run drip-feed, which still has yet to conclude, it was a fair assessment that "some of you in here act as if the item you want will never come." Because we do know that these drip-feed vehicles will come eventually at some point in the coming weeks. We just don't know the exact date and apparently that's just too much to bear (for some).

[quote:ragedandcaged - because the quote function isn't working for some reason... :turn:]

I mean, that was my point - they literally just mentioned Legendary Motorsport and weaponised stuff, and more stuff on Maze Bank Foreclosures, which presumably means yet another 'collect/deliver _____ in public Freemode' thing. So that's three consecutive updates of the same old same old - not to mention the trend starting with Import/Export a year ago.

I just hope that after a year of this, they've gotten enough out of their system to maybe mix things up, and do something different next year. One update that breaks from this rut would be hugely refreshing, IMO.

...no, I get that - and yeah, agreed. At least for some people, they know the things they want are actually coming - that's a lot better than the alternative!

That's a whole lot of drippin.

Well time to take up modding in skyrim again.....

It was nice knowing ya gta. Another game series ruined by corporate greed.

Maybe next year they will get it right? Oh wait.... They will be focused on RDR2. Aww dang. I guess not.

Not naming names and I'm not trying to play semantics over whether it was the Vigilante that was to drip today or the Cyclone or Hunter, etc etc. Some already known vehicle (whatever it may have been) from the drip-feed was widely-expected supposed to drop today, as has been the pattern recently. This didn't happen today and apprently that's an issue, that's the point I was making.

Definitely!

Ahh I see what you're saying. There's a bit more going on here that fuels these concerns.

You raise a good point about Rockstar telegraphing future DLC through these events/promotions and the direction they're taking us on a subtle level. Taking that aspect into account, yeah, there's ample reason to be concerned that what's coming might not be ideal, actually desired or make a measurable difference in gameplay. It's an underlying concern and I share your perspective.

Also sounds like they're taking gta0 updates month by month at this point. Looks like they'll stop supporting it as soon as it stops being profitable.

If somehow some way, GTA keeps making a profit alongside rdr2 they'll support it.

Anyways, if we keep getting major updates every quarter while the RDR2 is in the development, the same logic tells me that when it will be finally released the most of the developers who were busy constructing RDR2 will be free.

It means that the chance of getting elaborated updates for GTAO will increase.

Is something wrong with my logic?

Eh, most of the people with energy are people who don't want anything in the dripfeed and are sick of months going by with nothing they're interested in. I know that feeling from last year's updates.

I don't see any Hunter or Vigilante fans surprised or angry that those vehicles didn't come today.

Coyote Cards... or wtfever R* will be calling the RDR2 micro-transaction paywall thing.

But if there's a chance that they could sell Shark Cards AND Coyote Cards, they'll probably split the team in an effort to get both.

Keep flogging the 4+ year old engine of GTA until it becomes too unstable to continue being profitable, then consider the next instalment.

Another week of nothing, when everyone and their dogs knew Rockstar is deliberately holding back content that is loaded into everyone's game already?

Ah, just as well. I am too busy grinding in Plains of Eidolon anyway.

They can keep dripfeeding for as long as they want, I`m mostly done with the game anyway apart from a couple of car meets here and there. If December update is as badly unfriendly for PvE as SR and Gunrunning was, I may actually just quit for good.

Their recent statements about GTA:O ain`t encouraging at all.

I don't know why R* even assume that people that play GTA will want to play rdr2 ,I for one have no interest at all and doubt I am the only one. I don't think they are considering that they could be seriously alienating dedicated fans

They are going to force you to play that crap it seems.

"We don’t yet have a fixed end point in mind, but the rollout of updates may change a little in order to encourage players to try Red Dead Redemption II when it launches. It would be great to have players splitting time between two incredible worlds, but we shall see how things evolve. One of the enjoyable things about working on a project like this is that you can iterate quickly, and change and evolve plans fairly quickly too, so we don’t have to be as clear in our plans as with other projects."

Honestly, the only thing that would convince me to hop on board RDR2 would be if the online component was basically as enjoyable as GTAO was around the time of Heists - ideally with some of the game's shortcomings sanded off.

If R* had announced RDR2 with a GTAO-style online aspect back in June 2015, I'd have probably pre-ordered it on that quality guarantee alone. Considering the kind of things that have happened since, and what that says about the kinds of play styles that R* apparently deems higher/lower priority for an online title? RDR2 is very much a 'wait and see' at best - and with much lower expectations, considering the last year or so of GTAO. :/

(that's why I was really hoping December's update would be some kind of 'pivot', away from the stuff that's been so divisive this year - some sign that R*'s learned from that would have gone a long way to make me more likely to buy one of their upcoming releases)

Not interested in Rdr2 at all, I don't plan on getting it. I'm assuming there's no new car which is a shame really, I was hoping it was going to be released today.

No Use For A Name

Laughing at all the entitled brats whining about having to wait TWO WHOLE WEEKS! for a new vehicle.

Maybe go play with all the stuff you already have. You know, the same stuff that sits in your garages collecting dust while you complain about never having anything fun to play with

Yeah, that part is pretty worrying, IMO. :/

I'd long thought that 'hah, R* isn't stupid enough to assume that everyone playing GTAO is automatically going to want to play a niche Western thing, and end GTAO in order to force players to jump ship', but that does sound like talk of slowing down/withholding content releases in order to starve people of GTAO, and make them want to play the new game instead.

...except, as people have said many times before, not everyone playing GTAO is a die-hard R* fan - and GTAO is a pretty broad-appeal game. Westerns, on the other hand, are notorious for being an increasingly hard sell (hence their decline on film) - frankly, R* could do sci-fi spin on the GTA open-world format (think anything from Blade Runner to Firefly), and it'd probably have more mainstream appeal than horses and six shooters.

No idea if they'll actually attempt a stunt like that - but from where I'm sitting, and judging by the standards of the rest of the entertainment industry, I suspect it'd backfire if they did...

I think the ever expanding and ever getting more awesome Elite has killed any chance of anyone else getting in on open world space. Rather than do Red Dead they could have done a lot of things. I'm not sure it will sell well at all, it's not something I'm interested in. I didn't even buy the previous one.

Hope the Halloween event is only a week, this dripfeed is so dumb. YES, I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE IT ALL AT ONCE AND THEN ENDURE A MONTHS LONG DROUGHT.

This next opinion has nothing to do with gta or the dripfeed, but I may have to hold off on RDR2 for a year or so. I just need a break from R* and all their brilliant business tactics after GTAO slows down. Not quite ready to get dragged into a second online world with over priced content released at a tedious pace. Yeah, I'm about all R*ed out, in 2006 i waited a year plus while Manhunt 2 kept getting delayed. How long do you insist i wait R*? How much "R* business acumen" must I put up with..?

That's the thing, there are scrubs on here talking about we're (entitled) whiny brats.... I don't get it. At least a person of maturity would have enough mental capacity to respect someone's opinion on the subject of content release and leave it at that. I guess I'm entitled then. What else is new.

I think them leaving the Hunter so late is going to make it a lot easier for me to hold off on Red Dead 3. I mean - I waited ages for a somewhat balanced attack helicopter; I don't feel like leaving it and not flying any for the next few years or however long they think Red Dead will last.

I'm not massively feeling the hype anyway - it looks good, but I don't like the name, and some vibe from within feels like something could be off. I don't know; hard to tell.

The thing about Red Dead is that it'll release right on the business model GTAO is on right now and that wont be fun at all. Because the profits are there, Rockstar are convinced they have it right.. but they don't.. They are on 1/4 the profits the should be on but they just can't see that.
