this is what happens when a company who is focused on story telling and SP games turn to online to please the masses.

i always stood by that fact, but people always tell me to "go along with the times" and "sp games are boring".

and then people are asking why i don't trust Redemption's 2 quality when it comes to SP.

funny thing is gta online is the ONLY online game i'm involved with but even that is slowing down for me.

online was a fun ADD ON but the more it came into focus in the industry, the more it ruined great franshises.

oh well...

P.S. for those of you praising the benz well it was his idea to turn away from the SP in favor of online. a "understandable" route to go but it's a weak one. and don't act like online was going somewhere when he was still around.

How many hours the last four years would you've played this game if it was only single player mode? More hours than you've played online?

I would probably have played the story one or maybe two times and that's it, online I probably have around 80 days of playtime so I feel it's a good thing they turned towards online but I hope they still make a single player story for rdr2 and next GTA also

I can say the same for myself about replay value. As soon as I beat San Andreas, I haven't played it since, and I think that was last year, or early this year. I'll get back to playing it eventually, and I actually might get it for the PC as well. But for GTA V, I also still wouldn't mind story DLC too. I haven't played the story mode in a while either.

This dude is a game designer? Sounds like a pr yes man, or some of the members on this forum. Looks like Rdr2 is shaping up to be gta0 3.0. I can safely say I will not be buying any r* product "new".

Also sounds like they're taking gta0 updates month by month at this point. Looks like they'll stop supporting it as soon as it stops being profitable.

If somehow some way, GTA keeps making a profit alongside rdr2 they'll support it.

Not really fair to compare the play times of vanilla SP with Online since Online has obtained literally all major DLC content. If SP got as much DLC as it's multiplayer component got I bet the replayability would be very high, much higher than it is now at least.

Oh boy! Who ever gave this interview has to play a very diffrent game.

Cheap clothing my a$$. We have clothes that cost a couple of 100 grand and every piece of clothing from smugglers run was a few million in total.

well... maybe it's cheap in his eyes.

that means when they want to charge "decent" then we are screwed

Want to buy and customize an APC? Thats 1,2 Million for a bunker, 2 Million for an moc with vehicle customs bay and a couple of hours/100k to unlock parts of the customization please. Thats the stuff he does not talk about because he definitly knows he talking out of his rear.

These PR people need a dose of reality.

It makes me worry what the future holds for us.

Something around 8m cost all the SR clothing. :catspider:

Every single evolution ever made in the GTA franchise has been treated, at the time, with derision and criticism by sections of the fanbase, including moving the game to 3D, having a talking protagonist, having an African-American protagonist, making the Episodes, and having thee playable characters. GTA Online is no different.

I somehow really doubt all the people complaining here would've been complaining about CJ being black, particularly given it's a pretty "politically correct" forum.

If you weigh up how many threads there are complaining about stuff in GTA Online (whether that's the homing launcher, clothing, cash cards, prices, lag, etc.) - I think it'd massively outweigh the amount of complaints about a black character.

I really don’t think we can be accused of gouging the player base

I don't think the interviewer said anything about "gouging the player base" ... Sounds like some kind of Freudian slip lol.

All that said, I haven't paid anything other than what I paid for the base game, so he has a point on that one thing I guess. A lot of dodging in that interview, and some good potential questions are missing.

I wish GI asked about the "quality" slipping by "testers". Looking at the Tula and Re7B.

Damn, I wish I was doing the interview. Id ask some really hard hitting questions, I'd probably get fired.

...eh, screw it - I'm copy-pasting my two cents from another thread, because it's half-three in the AM, and I'm practically at the 'typing by smashing the keyboard with my forehead' stage... :p

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

...so this interview with GameInformer happened earlier - and like with every other interview I've seen with Imran Sarwar about heading up GTAO, it shows a clearly clever bloke, who ...has some clear areas where his usual solution to a problem is to aim for Fun™ at all costs. People have wondered for the longest time what difference it'd make not having Leslie Bingis at the helm, and I think that's definitely it - The Benz was more about immersion, not just superficial entertainment (largely because it's clear from how he's spoken about his current project, 'Everywhere', that he views immersion as being entertaining - that's the point!).

Hence why Sarwar's proud of the constant string of contextless, 'game-y' Adversary Modes, and when asked which updates and what content he'd recommend to players who feel disappointed at the lack of single-player content, he recommends ...Freemode business work, particularly Smuggler's Run, of all things (yup - the one that eschewed pure PvE entirely... :facedesk:), because 'the missions are fun', and 'it has cutscenes and voiceovers'. That sounds glib of me, but he specifically seems to think that all players want from the single-player GTA experience is (and I quote) a "combination of gameplay and additional character interaction", referring to how characters interact with the NPCs from single-player. No thought given to the idea that players want GTAO content that plays like traditional GTA - heck, even the original contact missions still offered that aspect, and the kind of immersive, system-driven experience that you just can't get in a setting where PvP can happen (i.e., public Freemode), and any methodical systemic interaction can be derailed by another player doing *whatever*.

...aaand then there's this, when asked about how they handle clothing:

"We have a team that is constantly researching and designing new clothing for all of our games. For GTA Online, that means being constantly on the lookout for appropriate clothes from specific subcultures or from the latest fashion trends. We try to ensure there’s an even balance of male and female clothing options with every update."

Okay - but when 'an even balance' means 'making the same assets for both', there's a lot of things that simply won't get covered. Likewise, there are a lot of 'latest fashion trends' that don't appear in GTAO at all, so that aspect is only as good as how far the team looks, and how much they let their own personal tastes dictate what gets added. From the last ...two years of updates, I don't get the impression they're throwing out a particularly broad net... :bored:

I've come to realise something: part of the problem is the total and utter lack of transparency and communication with the community - that's not a killer when you're dealing with a purely single-player title, but for an ongoing online game, where responding to the reactions of the players is key to keeping new content engaging, successful and popular? You need official community channels. You need active reps reaching out to players in community hubs - same with technical support. Blizzard does that, Frontier Developments does that, Funcom does that - heck, even Hangar 13 and DONTNOD do some of that, and that's for purely single-player experiences!

But R*? Nothing - instead, it looks like their main approach to feedback is raw in-game metrics (who's buying what, playing what modes, etc.). And that's so easily skewed - of course players are buying luxury cars over muscle cars, because we only ever GET a s***-load of luxury cars, and yet you haven't added a new proper muscle car in two years!! Of course the new adversary modes get played a lot - because when they launch, they get a week or two of double money/RP, and so people grind them to earn enough for the new toys. You can mis-read false positives in raw numbers until the heat-death of the universe, and you'll still be missing the wood for trees. Or the friggin' bark, even.

Here's Jim Sterling, nailing just why that kind of approach doesn't give a full picture of what people actually want - skip to 1:23 to get to the meat of the video, past the bit of Jim explaining about gall bladder surgery (!!! :*():

Double like. But, no way in hell we'll see something like that - reaching out to the community more directly. Just a hunch, but still. Don't want to get into any hasty conclusions, but if I had to guess I'd say T2 wants to keep things " strictly business ". Edited by ChengizVlad09

I fear for how RDR 2 will turn out now...

Oh well, it's not like I still believe in this developer, these folks are so far up their own asses that this guy's repplies feels like comedy gold when you compare them to how the game actually is.

Atleast they finally spoke up and buried the SP DLC matter, allowing some folks on V section to finally get their sleep...

Only a week of October left. Can't push the Hunter back too much further.
