wonder if they would add new vehicles with christmas.

i know a bit to early and all that, but they have done it twice now.

They will. Simple logic to it is that most people have the time to play the game a lot more during the holidays and will be more inclined to buy the new stuff to enjoy over the holidays, plus most people are either getting some extra dough or are more likely to spend it during the holidays.

As for saying GTAO not getting enough attention or stopping due to the release of RD3, that's like saying : Procter&Gamble just bought a brewery, so they will stop making shampoo now.

There seems to be some confusion in this thread, for at least a few people.

Rockstar will not "end" GTA Online. It will likely still be playable 10+ years from now, just like GTA IV.

What will end, is content updates for GTA Online, and I am willing to bet that they end before RDR2 releases.

I'll take that bet, Mach1bud;) Loser adds something to his signature like: '-player name- is always right and shouldn't be argued with.'

By the time Red Dead drops I may have died from old age. I would not be able to honor the bet unfortunately.

Besides, I can't fit anything else in my signature because of the massive amount of awards I have gotten here. #MachBrags

Willing to take that risk, Mach1bud. And changing member title would be an option as well.....or just having one "loser" amongs all your titles;)

I think they'll announce a new gta before they end updates. Rockstar made over 700 million with shark card sales. That seems a bit farfetched from a business perspective to end them next year. But then again online is 3 years old.

To be honest, I consider that the "ending" of GTA's multiplayer. I mean, we all know the servers (not that we have proper ones) will be around for ages. What I talk about when I talk about the game ending is its updates.

Which I really hope last as long as possible. I need to finally have my day.

Also boots with jeans. And nightclubs. And even a heist or two for the other guy. And tuners for Commander what's-his-name. Edit: And a map expansion.

GTA Online Servers will definitely be staying that is for sure.

If this car becomes available on Halloween, then I think the end is nigh. and then I'm fairly certain GTA Online content updates would end before Red dead Redemption 2.

Not sure why that would signify the end. It is expected that it returns just like the Festive and Independence items do every year.

Actually, I expect the holiday vehicles added via tunables (and the rest of the holiday content/snow) to the only thing that continues to be released every year, even after real content updates cease. The stuff is already in the game, flip a swtich and its there. No resources taken for it.

I bet Festive/Hallowen/Independence items will continue for years to come.

Currently the Franken Stange and the Lurcher Hearse is unavaliable for those that didn't buy it during Halloween last year. Now if it comes back and is still available after the Halloween event, to me that hints that they don't plan on releasing a Halloween update next year. Thats the way I personally see it. We will just have to wait and see, who knows what will happen.

Surely that could actually mean the opposite? It would mean they'd have a chance to make completely new content rather than unique and limited time only products for their halloween events.

Both can be true. Could also be that they use the approach that "special items and vehicles" only remain special for a year, maybe two.

That would make sense, if every year a new Season vehicle came and replaced the spot of the old one after 2016.

I think they unlocked the valentines stuff because of the controversial use of the word "indefinitely" on their post about it. People took it to mean permanently, so they caved in and just kept it.

I (respectfully! :) ) disagree, for two reasons:

1. Not everyone playing GTAO is a R* fan, and buys/plays everything they put out - and Red Dead, while popular, is neither popular to the same level as GTA, nor delivers a comparable experience (because playing a Western game =/= playing a modern crime/driving game, obviously). Granted, a lot of folks here are, but they're not typical of GTAO players - and frankly, they're the sort of people who'd likely keep playing both (and spending money on both!), not dropping one for the other. But in general, I'd say GTAO is still somewhat broader-appeal, and dropping updating it to focus on a more 'niche' series not even developed by the same studio would be...

2. ...a bad business move, honestly. Sure, there was the mention of 'resting the franchise', but that's just a pre-emptive excuse, and it's not the first time people have pulled that one out (most notably, when Star Trek got canned on TV back in 2005 - the series was suffering declining ratings and viewers due to ongoing creative bungling, but the excuse given was 'franchise fatigue', to save face). IMO, there are only two things that'll put an end to GTAO updates: either the revenue stream will dry up (which it's showing no signs of doing yet) to a degree where it can't be saved, and so updates will end, with 'resting the franchise' given as the reason - or, it'll be because ...GTA VI will have just been announced. :p

That's probably the most likely 'END OF LINE' moment for GTAO 1.0, I'd say - GTA VI (not RDR2) getting announced a year or so before launching, followed by a 'GTAO updates will end with this last update' final token DLC, and then, however many months later, the GTAO 2.0 trailer. Again, that's just good business sense - unless something causes the gravy train to derail, R*/Take-Two will want to get the most out of it that they can, while it still consistently delivers, and then turn all that ongoing investment into hype, even withdrawal, to get people to jump ship to the new game's incarnation of GTAO. Think the 'dangling carrot' metaphor crossed with 'gateway drugs' - get people hooked, keep them hooked, then cut of their fix ...and then dangle the next tantalising (bigger, better!) dose in front of 'em. Wouldn't take that long for GTAO to start getting stale for some folks with no new content (4 months would be more than enough), while at the same time, the next 'content update' is there waiting, complete with pre-order bonuses. And that, Charlie Brown, is how you get a healthy population of current GTAO players on board with the next game at launch, rather than leaving the new Online barren because everyone's perfectly happy staying with the version they already have.

TL;DR: RDR and GTA = apples and oranges. Maybe better to start calling 'time' on GTAO 1.0 when rumours of GTA VI being announced soon start surfacing... :sly:

Not really a rebuttal, honestly! Just trying to put my best 'business/marketing wonkery' hat on - and if there's one reasonably-consistent rule in everywhere from Hollywood to game publishing, it's 'never prematurely cut off a healthy source of revenue'.

If you're the person who has to explain to the board why you pulled the plug on something that makes mad bank, and the best reply you have is 'well, the numbers show it's making more money than ever - but I felt it best to pre-emptively end it, before sales have a chance to start drying up', without any figures to show that they will indeed dry up (any time soon, at least), then congratulations - you've just told the company you've killed the goose that laid the golden egg, and on a hunch. And now you're fired. :pp

A matter of sales.

If they think Red Dead is gonna be the next cash cow, they will shut down the GTA Online.

So you think it makes financial sense for a company to shut down a product that makes them wel over a hundred million a quarter in pure profit because they release another division that has nothing to do with that product releases a different thing that also makes money.

Right, might as well give up hundreds of millions, no sense in earning yet more money! No company does this, because it is an abysmal financial decision.

Game's lasted 3 years. Not as fun as launch, and they keep killing the fun by nerfing the cargobob and other pointless 'fixes' like the cargobob and titan doors, and *harmless clothing glitches which I didn't use but others did.

Got my money's worth. Piss bored now to be honest.

*Except the invisible body glitch. Got killed by a floating head.
