Happy 5 years GTA Online!

Happy fifth anniversary, you magnificent bastard!

 

Time for a trip down memory lane ...

I didn't get into Online early on. While I was a day one online player & my character survived the mess, I didn't play online much since I didn't have a Gold Subscription. I didn't take GTA online seriously (prefered V) until I moved to the Xbox one & went from lvl33 to being 1079 grinding contact missions, VIP & CEO work.

 

I still remember my first day though. The game froze while i was about to pick a car for Lamar's race & it took like 30 minutes to start again. Simeon was generous enough to pay for upgrading & insuring my first car, I spent hours looking for an Oracle XS, it wasn't easy to find as it is today & eventually gave up. I couldn't even find a Cavalcade or a Dubsta for my plan B & C respectively so I settled for a Zion Cabrio ... Only to find a Cavalcade 10 minutes after I customized it lol.

 

I don't remember my first contact mission, but Down The Drain was my first race, GOH was my second & the first one I won. I did a few more races & unlocked the blonde tattoo.

 

I robbed a lot of stores too, I think I robbed them all on day 1 lol.

I returned to playing GTA V once the free Xbox Gold promotion ended & didn't touch GTAO again until R* announced it will give us 500k as a compensation for the bumpy launch ... I redeemed a promotional Gold Subscription we had laying around & claimed that money. Bought me an apartment at Del Perro heights & an Enus Super Diamond.

The Super D was the first car I ever bought in GTAO, I still have it today.

 

I finally found an Oracle XS that same day & it was the second car I ever stored, found it before the Super D was delivered lol. I still have it today.

 

And that was my entire GTAO experience in LG. Moved to X1 right before IGG1 ... Spent the first Million I earned on the second car I bought as a birthday present, also an Enus (Windsor) lol. I still have it today.

 

I haven't stopped playing since then.

i miss being in packed out lobbies with some gtaf crew members killing, chilling. that wouldn't have been possible without gta v

5 years of absolute anarchy from me: I remember when the first of October hit and I started up the game with the intentions of only playing it a little bit before moving onto the next big game or whatever was going to happen back in 2013, but as soon as I made my character and after playing for almost four hours, I was hooked. This game has stuck with me from my transition from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One (the first game I bought for the One was Grand Theft Auto V surprisingly enough). There were moment's when I was content on giving up completely (some of Rockstar's decisions with cars, adversary modes, and sometimes just rehashed content) but it's been a wild adventure for the past five years and I'm glad I've been here for the long run. Eventually, it'll be time for me to quit but for now, I'm going to sit on my overpriced yacht and just enjoy today for the anniversary of a multiplayer game that I've been playing for 5 years. Happy 5th GTA. Still my favorite game ever. Its bn a while since I was on new gen. Bn on old gen since Feb but PS3 but the dust over the wk end so its bk to the chaos of new gen. Starting over w a new character is something I dread actually but this time I'm smart enough not to purchase half the useless weapons & vehicles as I did the 1st time. I knw the amount of players will decrease with the RDR2 release but I'm hoping there's still plenty of players like me who will play GTAO religiously until GTA6 arrives. Here's to many more countless hours of "Wasted"

Spent a couple hours making some crack heads. Lifeless, even. Once I managed to get through the tutorial, it was a revolution to me. Id never played anything like this and immediately lost myself. 

 

It's crazy to think that through the 5 years, there is still not a single game like this.

Well, I've only been playing GTAV for less than 2 years (Nov.27/16), but wow 5 years is quite an accomplishment.

The basic premise of GTA as always has been solid, just much better looking than previous iterations, so longevity isn't really that surprising.

 

There's nothing quite like GTA, so there will always be a place for this game.

I know its a little off topic but I do wonder what R* has learned from five years of GTA Online for RDOnline? How much content is RDOnline gong to launch with? Will we have Heists day one?

Day-two, my friend. For me it was impossible to get to Online at day one. But yeah, legit old-timer here. I'm currently 2nd after @RyuNova on this leaderboard, yaay.

 

 

Here's the snap from 2014 that I found, somehow my original 360 snaps are all lost to social club. Details and views like that are the reasons we're getting back to the game despite the Oppressors, Flying tanks, money wipes, cheaters and glitchers. There's nothing like GTA V map. I'm glad that I've played this game long enough.

My earliest memories are saving up for a Coquette and a garage on Route 68. Felt so great to finally have enough for those.

I do indeed. From Xbox 360 to Xbox One to Xbox One S and finally to PC. I upgraded my GPU from 980 to 1080 to play this game (although, the latter wasn't really necessary unless you're going for 4k or using G-sync displays).

The first thing I actually worked hard towards was the 9F Cabrio. I slaved over contact missions for ages to buy my baby and I still have her.

Oh, I remember on the first day I spent a lot of time creating my female character, but then got stuck when the race with Lamar should have started. I gave up and went to finish story. A few days later I heard from my friends that it should work now so I went straight to Online thinking sure it saved my girl, I'll just continue the tutorial. To my surprise it was a totally random guy Rockstar created for me that stepped out the plane, lol.

He wasn't even eaten by the clouds like so many people's characters so I still have him today although I spend way more time with my new girl.

That character is my first on ps3. I got a good number of characters following him on ps4 and currently play one since jan 2016. I don't think I'll delete this one soon

Happy Anniversary GTA Online, despite my character kept getting deleted in the first full week. I would have to say, thank you all for the awesome memories!! I love that we got to do what we do in this day in age. We get to buy properties, homes, cars, buildings and even clothes. Along with weapons. From Day 1, to Flight School 2014, to Heists 2015, CEO DLC 2016, Bikers Update 2016, Gun Running 2017, Doomsday Heists, and now After Hours. There was so much evolution in this game and it is not even funny. It's more like a happy smile. I am so glad to have been part of this game for so long that it actually brought me good friends, cool ass people I see as family in my crew. Half a decade and I would not not change a damn thing. I will still be playing this game to this very day. So Rockstar Games, thank you for everything!
