Big question is, do you think we will be able to buy properties?

List reasons why we should or shouldn't have properties. This applies to RDR Online as well, not only the regular game.

I'm thinking properties would add another level of indepthness. More of a reason to spend money. If we can buy clothes and items over time, I think it'd be wise to be able to chill in some shack in the middle of nowhere or a big cottage. Have a personal collection of loot or trophies from game hunting (even though I'm against that :p ). Problem with having one, there might not be much places to choose from, it being very open land and not many settlements. Maybe, we might be able to build houses? It could get destroyed by other players, if they find it and have enough material to destroy it (molotovs, tnt). It could introduce more griefing i suppose.

Ol' Stinky Pete

Well from what I've read/heard so far. I very much doubt it.

Your camp seems to be an important hub for the gang. Alot of work will have went into it. And will come into the story /cutscenes.  So given that, properties in SP you can pretty much rule out I think imo.

Online. Yeah I think there might be.

Dare I say it. I don't see how RDR will be as lucrative as Gta. So properties could be an opening?

Plenty of land for it lol.

How they would like implement it. I dunno.

I used to play Lord of the rings online and they introduced housing. It was a good laugh/added to the immersion even although it was an 'extra area' bolted on.

But you could mount your trophies etc (I'm against big game killing etc too) but this late 19th century lol :p)

Could be pretty cool. ...Could be. Like you say could be set up for a lot of griefing  :/

In SP, I don't think Arthur or any of the gang will be able to settle down anywhere when they're constantly on the run.   The Marstons managed to lay low for 5 years, but that could have been a reward for services rendered to the Pinkerton Detective Agency....I'm just saying. Otherwise, the life of an outlaw is a life constantly in motion.

In Online, I could definitely see buying cheap land on the frontier, clearing it, and building a homestead; or buying a property in town for your own.   But, like safehouses in GTAO, they'd have to be invincible to griefers and restricted to invited guests only.

Nice views/points, I agree with you both. Yeah SP probably shouldnt have it then. Makes sense. Online tho, it'd be pretty immersive

RDR:Online will need money sink(s).

It makes sense to have some properties, but I don't want anything over the top.

Stables and some hideouts, cabins etc make sense.

Doesn’t make sense for an outlaw to buy properties when he’s trying to envade the law and not be easily detected.

It’s a feature that’s more suited for online instead.

RDR2 (Single player)

Why we should  - It would be another reason to earn and use money for i guess. Maybe buy safehouses where you can store stuff? or a ranch for horse breeds?

Why we shouldn't - We're part of an outlaw gang which moves camp in order to not get caught and attacked by the government, it wouldn't make much sense for Arthur to start buying properties when he is a part of the gang, the main home he should have is just with the camp.

RDR2 (Online)

Why we should - It would be another reason to earn and use money so you have a goal that you can work towards.

A place you can probably relax in without other players trying to kill you.

Why we shouldn't - I can't see how they will implement immersive properties.

Thats the main points i can think of for the moment.

Actually I would be shocked if you can't at least rent rooms above saloons and in hotels in many of the major towns and St Denise. When you want to spend a few days in Valentine to sell your wares, get a haircut, play poker and do side missions, it would suck to have to keep riding out of town to make camp.

It's already confirmed you can rent hotel rooms. That's not just for show.  Given what we now know about taking baths in RDR2, it's also a safe bet you can bring hookers to your room, too, so that's pleasant.

In Online, maybe.  Not sure if they're going to lean into the monetization/acquistion aspect nearly as much as GTA Online has.

In single player... I suspect not, or at least not until late in the game.  If the story sweeps over a fairly long period, we could see Arthur get away from the gang and set up shop somewhere (or multiple somewheres).  But it seems like the gang has a camp and stays on the move, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that Arthur might also own a permanent residence while he's traveling with them.  They are basically itinerants, from all indications.

As much as I'd love it in SP, I don't believe that's the way R* still go.  Maybe if they open up activities/features, rather than accumulating money.

For online,  I'm sure there will be.

Well it would kinda defeat the purpose of the whole camp thing, but i think after the main story finishes it would be cool to buy a ranch somewhere.

One of the single player bonuses for the special and ultimate edition is access to a 'gang hideout' and whilst I don't think it's been said what that will entail exactly, I think we'll probably be able to buy up properties to act as a front for the gang. E.g. buying a saloon in one of the major cities to act as a safehouse.

Online for sure.

About that...

R* have said that abandoning a camp and moving on to a new one is a story-driven mechanic.  So we can't voluntarily pull up roots until the time dictated in story.   "When the time comes, you run, and don't look back til this is over."

So...won't this Del Lobo hacienda Hideout/Camp throw off the storyline? Where would it plug in?

Elsewhere, the Del Lobos Gang has taken over a hacienda - clear this gang’s hideout and rob their stash for a lucrative take.

Nothing indicates that this hacienda is gonna serve as a hideout for our gang. Sounds like another random score.

On the other hand: properties in SP? Only when the gang days are over, if so. In online, off course they'll implement them. Buffalo cards don't sell themselves. They don't even need to use existant buildings, just assign some spots anywhere for you to build the whole thing.

the ultimate editon talks about about having an exclusive camp so its probably gonna be camp based property
