Unforgiven. Which is like my favorite movie. I recently rewatched it and there was like 4 or 5 hat references that were quite funny and subtle. So i know rockstar watched it too.

The flaw I see games are never as great as movies or (good) tv series story-wise.

People say Tombstone but I honestly apparently can't stand Wyatt Earp, I haven't liked the character of him in any incarnation I've seen.

I've tried to watch Tombstone maybe five times and I just ended up tuning out and getting distracted every time

About the flaw in games not being as good story-wise I see what you mean but I do think that games have come a long way and that not long from now it will be just as good, it might even be better.

i did read the first rdr2 previews or maybe even watched the trailer and there was some hat reference by rockstar. and only after that i watched unforgiven again and there was a couple of hat-references too which i only noticed because i had been thinking about it because of rdr2, so i made the link that rockstar took it from that movie.

i dont know man about games having better stories than movies or tv series. its a different way of storytelling. people are oversaturated now with shows because of netflix and so on. its very hard for games to hold your attention like that. i mean i do binge-play videogames like i binge-watch some tv-shows but for the games its rarely about the story but because i want to explore the gameworld or because the gameplay is fun. i did see some guy say he just replayed rdr1 for the 10th time i envy that. like when i started replaying gta5 i just got distracted and couldnt bother. tho the few segments i played where better than i remembered them, i just barely find the motivation to continue with it, maybe its just me.

Just watched The Cowboys with John Wayne, he plays a tough old rancher who has to herd some cattle 400 miles and he has a bunch of young boys help him. They encounter cattle rustlers. Kind of an unconventional John Wayne movie, I think this one will stick with me. Sinister bad guy played by Bruce Dern. Sometimes heartwarming, often funny. I liked this one a lot.

Yeah I get what your saying, I don't play the same game 10 times my self. But especially Rockstar games I just like the cutscene's which in my opinion are always original, funny and sometimes even a bit emotional. To each his own of course.

One of my favorite movies of all time!

One of his last films and just amazing. Roscoe Lee Browne is great in it too. And Dern got death threats from this film! And John Williams' score is one of his most underappreciated works ever.

Visually stunning, paced out brilliantly, acted well, and Mark Rydell's direction and cinematography were fantastic. I love love love this movie so much.

Really? Wow, why is that, do you know? I'm curious because Tombstone is generally so broadly and highly regarded. I liked Kurt Russell's interpretation because it more closely mirrored Earp in real life--as a flawed man of dubious morality. The whole Gunfight at the OK Corral thing gets distilled down to good guys vs bad guys, which is so over-simplified, so Tombstone did a decent job of portraying it.

I just don't like the guy. I think he's boring. Him and his dumbass brother both. I prefer outlaws over lawmen. :/

Earlier I watched the original Django from 1966. Badass film. Whole lot of of fun. I highly recommend it. Wait till you find out what he's got in the coffin! "A man named Django." The version I watched was both dubbed and had subtitles, and the subtitles didn't say what was being spoken by the dub, so that was really interesting watching it. The subtitles made him seem a lot more badass than he sounded.

Cool. Cinefix's Top 10 Westerns of all Time.

Good list--what I love about Cinefix's lists, is that there are always old school unknown or influential but not mainstream flicks in there. I've discovered a LOT of good movies from Cinefix. Good stuff.

This evening I watched The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. An enjoyable classic. Darkly funny the whole way through. Liked watching Humphrey Bogart play an asshole bum turned prospector, don't wanna give too much away but he's fascinating in the role. The themes of the movie touch on morality and greed. Definitely worth a watch.

Oh yeah, Treasure of the Sierra Madre is awesome.

So, I was rewatching the second gameplay trailer and this struck me...

Starts at 1:40, but does that bandit look like Eli Wallach in the original Mag Seven a little but? Calavera?

I've just watched The Hateful 8 for the first time. It's not the kind of Western I was hoping, but great movie, nonetheless

So I got Deadwood on Blu-Ray like..2014. Saw season 1, never 2, 3 on blu ray (but have seen them on DVD).

To my horror... there is a problem with the British/Aussie versions of Season 2 where audio is out of sync by like a good 2 seconds.  Ugh!

Apparently to get this fixed I need to contact Paramount with my receipt... from 4 years ago... which I don't have...

So, tonight I'll be watching The Quick and the Dead, instead (and rhyming too apparently)

I've been watching at least one Western a day for the last couple weeks. I'm trying to save the best ones for last. Tomorrow I will watch the Wild Bunch, on the 22nd 23rd and 24th I will watch the Dollars Trilogy. Don't know what I will watch tonight. Probably Once Upon A Time in the West, and possibly The Shootist

Beautiful movie though, great atmosphere in the snow parts too.

I read of this and stuck with my DVD's, luckily with this show, not being in super HD adds to the rough edge for me. (Much like old horror movies too). Bad though as I would have for sure.

Ha-ha, likewise. I caught The Wild Bunch just Thursday evening. Love that flick. Tonight it's The Revenant as I've a buddy popping by that's yet to see Leo on fine form once again.

You know, take me back to when Titanic and Romeo & Juliet came out, I'd have not expected to have became such a fan. But after seeing What's Eating Gilbert Grape and the many instant classics since. He's up there with the big boys for me. Great actor, and Tom Hardy too. Sweeeeet!

Yeah, it's a usual Tarentino flick--too long, broken up by "chapters" because directorially he has problems blending scenes, and the usual gore. But it was hellaciously well acted and the cinematography with the outdoor shots was really something. But I can envision RDR2 borrowing thematically from it. Just sounds like something R* might do.

Yeah, the outdoors shots were just gorgeous, and the interactions in the stagecoach kinda reminded me of RDR1, somehow. I can totally see R* taking inspiration from this movie.

I've been doing the same thing for the last few months. I've watched about 50 odd. I am down to my last 6, the first two are great, but the last 4 are my personal favourite westerns of all time.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid.

My favourites:
The Dollars Trilogy.
Once upon a time in the West

I'd include The Wild Bunch and Unforgiven in my top 6 with the Leone movies, too. I've watched Wild Bunch twice this year already. It is the perfect movie to get in the mood for RDR 2. It's themes and characters are a direct inspiration for the RED DEAD series.

Just watched 'True Grit' and 'Young Guns' last night.

Great films.

Some of the lingo is great from that era.

The Outlaw Josey Wales!

I know it's been mentioned on here already but I really want to emphasize the greatness of this movie! Clint is the perfect actor and is at his all time best here in my opinion. Also this might be the inspiration for John's scars as Josey has a large scar on his right cheek as well. Check out this little clip to get an idea of what you'll be getting I promise you will not be let down.

Lol it's funny. Has anyone else noticed on Netflix they're suddenly getting recommended Western films even though they haven't searched or watched these preciously? Obviously Netflix has had a spike in searches for these types of films which is now filtering down to all users.
