Onholidayinmyhead
I absolutely loved the first RDR but have never been much of a western film fan. Even after I’d stopped playing the game I wasn’t really inclined to explore the genre. However I’ve got the itch. I’m watching The Hateful Eight tonight. Any suggestions of other good films to watch before the big day?
Typhus
Watch Seraphim Falls, it's an outstanding Western starring Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan which never got the love it deserved. Onholidayinmyhead and TiberiusMcQueen
Ol' Stinky Pete
Someone on here mentioned 'The Wild bunch' Ive watched some of it the other day. Fell asleep. But that's not a dig at the movie! ... I was just off night shift. It was good of what I seen of it lol. Will watch the rest on Sat And I'll throw in '3:10 to Yuma' and 'The hateful eight'. Took me months to realise The hateful eight was a kinda play on The Magnificent Seven lol. Doh. I’m enjoying it but I’m so tired, I’ll have to catch the second half tomorrow. I didn’t see the Magnificant Seven reference either! 2 hours ago, Typhus said: Watch Seraphim Falls, it's an outstanding Western starring Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan which never got the love it deserved. Thanks for all the suggestions. Now to find time to fit them in... SinisterRaccoon

Atlas4
Unforgiven is the best Westerm film ever made. The Searchers is great 2 lesser known ones but have similar themes to RDR is Shane and The Shootist. Mister Pink and Lonely-Martin
Mister Pink
I would second Unforgiven as being the best or at least one the best. Also High Plains Drifter. More recently, Bone Tomahawk and coming out soon, the new Coen Brothers film... The Ballad of Buster Scruggs..(Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, James Franco, Tom Waits..) Jabalous
The Big Gundown (1966) has turned into one of my favorite Western movies after I've finished watching it just now. The last duel is legendary, and the music is one of the finest in the genre. You must watch it!
Gunboat138
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of my favorite movies of all time, western or no. Basically plays off the last 6 months or so of Jesse James' life, showing off how absolutely terrifying he was to the people around him. Brad Pitt, Garrett Dillahunt, Sam Rockwell, Jeremy Renner are in it and Casey Affleck steals the show. Great cinematography, great acting and it's the truest movie to the source material I've personally ever seen. Only thing that ever bothered me about it was, they're a scene where Jesse and Charlie Ford are riding through Missouri and they stop at a lake at the foot of an inexplicable mountain. Being born and raised in Missouri, the tallest mountain we have equates to a large hill. But I digress. HockeyMike24
It's technically not a western but got me in the mood... 1) Desperado 2) Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Robert Rodriguez films and I think Quinton Tarantino had a hand in Desperado. Lonely-Martin

It’s more an end of life biopic(?)- of both men. But worth the watch. 8 hours ago, HockeyMike24 said: It's technically not a western but got me in the mood... 1) Desperado 2) Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Since we’re thinking about ‘Neo-Westerns’ I enjoyed Wind River with Jeremy Renner as well. It’s also part murder mystery.
