Silent Hill vs. Resident Evil: Who do you think is better?

So these two games are the survival-horror genre, and each one has a fanbase. I personally think Silent Hill is a lot better, which is:

Here's what Silent Hill did better than Resident Evil:

-Sounds and creepiness

-Ambient music

-Psychological horror

-Monster design

 

Here's what Resident Evil did better than Silent Hill:

 

-Action

-Zombie and destruction

-Confusing puzzles

-Protagonist reaction and game remake

 

What is your opinion? Which game is better?

I will always be a Silent Hill fanboy, but I do think Resident Evil is more successful. Whenever the series seems to be getting stale, it manages to reinvent itself, renewing my interest in the games. Also, they're one of the few franchises out there that do remakes properly, RE1 on the Gamecube was brilliant and RE2 looks to be shaping up nicely.

 

I prefer Silent Hill's brand of horror, though, but honestly, it's been ages since the last good Silent Hill game. Once Team Silent split up after SH4, the series took a nosedive - every game that came after was a blatant attempt to recreate what made SH2 great, there was no innovation in the series, no new ideas, just the same tired tropes that made the games way too predictable. Shattered Memories was interesting but it was too formulaic, and well, not really all that scary. When they kicked Kojima from Konami and canceled Silent Hills, I all but gave up on seeing another good Silent Hill game. Konami will probably try again later on, but they've been making terrible decisions lately, so I'm not holding my breath. Meanwhile the Resident Evil series is alive and as strong as ever. 

 

My vote goes to Silent Hill because I like it's brand of horror. But I acknowledge that Resident Evil knows how to change things up and keep the franchise fresh and interesting - while Silent Hill floundered trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle that was Silent Hill 2.
