No doubt after the release of IV was released one of the big criticisms was the so called "step back" from SA's swimming feature. Admittedly at the time I too agreed that the ability to dive underwater was the logical step for V. Until of course it actually came out.

Exploring the ocean depths was quite an experience in V no doubt. It was so beautifully detailed, expansive and layed home to many fun easter eggs. But other than the collectible side missions I had no real reason to ever return there since there was nothing to do. It seemed like so much effort was wasted detailing the ocean floor when those resources and time could have gone to the rest of the map.

Honestly unless Rockstar can find a better use for the undersea environment I say scrap the idea and return to the VCS/IV water mechanics. Otherwise they'd better give is a wider variety of water vehicles, some amphibious weaponry and mayebe (if they insist on continuing with over-the-top content) an underwater safehouse. What do you guys think?

GTA is about freedom. If I see a spot in the map and can't explore it I feel like I'm missing something. So the underwater experience should return but should have more meaningful content and missions for it. Also there is no need to design the whole place with full detail. I mean you can't pretty much see very well underwater so what's the point of details? Just have a simple design with lots of easter eggs, missions and content(good content)  and we're good.

GTA V was a step forward in this direction but R* overdid it.

Pink Pineapple

They also need to add more locations to get scuba gear.

No.

I would rather just have a simple swimming mechanic. It was boring diving underwater in San Andreas so its exclusion in GTA IV never bothered me one bit as it allowed R* to focus on the things that mattered (The city). With GTA V it felt like R* overcompensated by making it more detailed, but still boring and uninteresting.

The time and resources should be put into developing the land geography IMO. I honestly couldn't give a f*ck about diving underwater. I would rather watch paint dry.

I don't care if it's there or not because I don't find the underwater interesting for exploration in a GTA setting. However, if it means more time to focus on other activities and explorable areas on land, then just drop the underwater areas from the game. Swimming on the surface would be enough.

no i dont care about swimming underwater. i never used it. so i would much rather them add new interiors or add more stuff on land. as long as you can swim in the game thats all i need. the extra detail is nice. but i never go in the water unless its a mission. just like how boats are the underused vehicle type in the game. i rarely ever use a boat.

Yes because weird not being able to swim in a open world game.

I wasn't suggesting that they remove swimming completely, just if people preferred the VCS/IV swimming style over the SA/V style.

If you have missions such as wreck diving, perhaps fixing (or sabotaging?) an offshore oil rig, submarine missions (recon, smuggling, rescue,...) I'd be all for it!
