Like downloading a torrent and telling it to SKIP the files, except in this case, instead of padding files, we get placeholder/almost nil size files.

That's not how this works.

With readiness I meant changes to the file structure (new update2.rpf), some gen9 carcols stuff, etc. The rest yeah, it might be to trick the game for now.

What you're talking about it legit the last step when developing an update. The packages are split anyways, since PS, XBOX and PC use different extensions. The key difference is when developing an update. It gives devs much more wiggle room when all of the structures are in place for all of the platforms. Even tho Online runs like sh*t stuff like memory allocation and what not is important and is definitely taken into an account at the start of the development cycle, not really at the end. It's just easier to have those dummies in the files then to not have em.

 

I also wouldn't bet any money on this coming to PC in the next year or so, but when it will come all they'll have to do is add the models via patchday and new content is enabled.

I just assumed it only downloads what's needed, or at most there isn't a 2:1 ratio between downloaded files and actual new stuff

I know all of this, and I know what you mean, my point is they regardless seem to intend on having the content of PC if they're even allocating resources for those files to be there, dummied out or not - I have a feeling we're trying to say something similar in different words. As it stands, the metadata in the game (content.xml) is even requesting files that don't exist yet, this is what I meant with "readiness", exactly what you just described by having the files there in the first place. :p I'm personally more optimistic about the release date though, don't think it's gonna be a year.

 

Looks like some are already excited at the files that *aren't* dummied out already too. :kekw: 

 

Obviously the major changes will only be coming at the end as I'm sure there'll be much bigger executable changes, and if they include AMD FSR on PC like they do on consoles there'll have to be new DLL's and what now.

Yes, updates for RDR2 are also bigger than on Steam. It downloads individual depots and not just the binary changes.

For me, the game is "stuttering" frequently now. And my PC far exceeds the needed specs (not a humble brag but i9-12900k & 3080Ti). I wasn't seeing any of this stuttering when I played yesterday.

 

Edit: it's 6 AM and I haven't slept, just noticed the "plop it down in..." portion. 🤦‍♂️

Arbiter GT is a bloody 3 speed by default!

Astron Custom (7 speed) has WEAKER brakes by default (upgrade modifier isn't enough to make up the difference) compared to the normal astron, which would explain the slower lap time in non-hsw mode! (Everything else is the same, it seems... not sure about engine power... but probs the same NOPE Astron 2 has less power in normal mode as well) Also, astron 2 HSW transmission is a lie, it's the same as regular max transmission with the normal astron

 

Cyclone2 is the new grippiest Electric car, even grippier than the i-Wagen... that was fun while it lasted...

 

Ignus gun adds 50kg... NOTHING else. Brakes are less strong normal maxed out on the gun one, makes sense, as is the HSW transmission vs super on the regular ignus BUT more power is more power, who needs brakes?

S95 is a 6 speed stock.

HSW upgrade uses ICE slot

Also not gone, I checked. That is a Gen9 change, none of that is on PC yet. It's just dummy files. No major code changes.

That was an issue on day one of release and they fixed it in tunables, if that's true it may have been a regression and not intended. The interviews for The Contract specified they made it soloable/allowed in solo lobbies on purpose. but it was broken day one until they fixed it. Basically the argument we all had here back then, then they fixed it. Maybe an older version of the code was pushed again? Lmao.

I'm on PS5, I've delivered two cars from the Exotic Exports List and theyve both been crossed off the blackboard in the Auto Shop.
