All of the new model files and textures that are in the Gen9 archives are dummy/stub archives, all 1 KB. So while the files are there, the content itself isn't yet.

Yeah, looks like this patch is readying PC for the Gen9 stuff. There are also references in content.xml (of \update\x64\dlcpacks\mpg9ec) to a bunch of files that don't exist and all car files are dummy. So it's definitely Gen9 readiness but it's not fully in yet.

Really, I'm going to bet you that those dummies are not placeholders that were put to prepare PC for the release, but for the convince sake. Devs won't have to switch between two versions when developing, the game thinks that the content is in the game (I bet you all of it is in just turned off in tunables), etc. I do think they're going to add the content sooner or later, but I don't think it was added with this patch to "readiness" the Gen9 content.

all we need is to fill the files out tho... and the tunables...

The problem with that theory is that there seem to be code changes between Gen9 and the current PC release (for example, sniper first person crash isn't fixed yet, reportedly, but it's fixed in Gen9) so they'd still have to handle two different builds on the code side. I didn't say they were adding it soon anyway :p Could be in the Summer for all we know and these placeholders will be there until then.

With readiness I meant changes to the file structure (new update2.rpf), some gen9 carcols stuff, etc. The rest yeah, it might be to trick the game for now.

also, total new files is ~400MB TOPS so maybe 600MB of pending stuff has been nulled out/skipped by the launcher?

Like downloading a torrent and telling it to SKIP the files, except in this case, instead of padding files, we get placeholder/almost nil size files.

I wonder if this patch included the PvP rebalances. Anyone check?

Lol yeah that's gonna need a secondary update. From a quick look, there's nothing overly juicy in the files other than references to the new stuff in the content.xml for each new RPF (some of it missing), some gen9 specific files like carcols, the rest seems to be dummy files. But at this moment we have the Gen9 file structure, just most of it is dummy files.

Don't think there's anything exciting to look at yet.

technically, if all the physics and code is present... we could just use test spheres or cubes and debug textures for it all

No, they are dummy files on purpose. It could be so PC people don't leak Gen9 content that's not released yet, or so the file structure is matching for whenever the update comes as all the files are now properly referenced in the metadata including the GTA+ stuff (prop_exc).

Gen9 has more code changes, such as ray tracing etc, that will need a much bigger update including to the executable, and that's probably when we'll see those dummies become real files. For now, no need to cream all over the place as there's not much to see :kekw:

What I'm mostly interested about is if car speed is linked to FPS on PC now, as Rockstar somehow managed to separate those on gen9/PS5/XboxSS/X.

I don't think any of the code fixes have made it to PC yet given the sniper first person crash is still in. I have a feeling that'll be part of a bigger update and this is just a smaller one for now, which ended up including dummy Gen9 files. The update to add fixes like that, a new API for ray tracing etc will likely be something totally separate.

Will check in a minute now that I have (Steam) (fast PC) and Epic (slow laptop) patched.

Shouldn't Rockstar add a much more bigger change on the Ray Tracing just for PC? Like there should be a option of just more than Sun Reflection Ray Tracing right?

Because the Rockstar Launcher downloads the whole depot, not just the difference. It was 500 MB for me on Steam. It is what it is, all of those files are dummied out on purpose, I'm not arguing this with you, the proof is in the pudding and on SteamDB, it's not 1 GB, that's just because the R* Launcher has no delta updates.
