Some of us like having good gameplay AND good graphics, who says you have to choose?  If you really truly don't care about graphics at all, why even play videogames? Go play D&D or some other pen and paper game where the only limit on "gameplay" and "content" is your imagination.

"It is the same" and "modders did better" while also linking videos of graphic mods that would fry up them poor consoles we are playing on.

 

Graphics are a very big selling point for games now, I can't even deny that myself, I played Horizon Forbidden West in 30fps rather than 60fps because the visuals were quite the treat to look at.

Maybe in some circles, but not for me....  Too many studios put all their eggs into graphics, and sell a story or plot so hollow it's like they forgot to make one.  AAA Houses have an annoying knack for it, but a few have learned from the mistakes they made in the past, not all of them.

Only way I can see them doing this now is by limiting the player count on those consoles by 16 players per session at most...And getting rid of the Aircraft carrier business battle.

 

Christ, the game is unplayable on a crowded session nowadays, I can barely handle 5 minutes of constant 15fps before shutting the game down.

 

And in regards to graphics, I must say that GTA 5 has aged BADLY, specially during the day time the game looks washed and ugly, just comparing it to RDR2 feels like comparing it to a next gen game.

Since everything today is about fps, has the framerate inside the casino been  improved on the ps5/x|s versions? On PC I swear it's capped at 30 fps.

Graphics are not the end all be all, but if they’re gonna sell the same damn game 4 different times on 3 different console generations, hell yeah the sh*t should look SIGNIFICANTLY better, but it doesn’t. It would be a different story if it was a trade off for a more content and feature packed game, but it wasn’t.

I've seen this claim multiple times now, I know base PS4 frames suck and are the worst of the last gen consoles, but does anyone have a source for CONSISTENT 15fps?

Well, RDR2 is in-fact an actual next gen game compared to GTA V as the later was originally developed for PS3/360. You don't have to feel anything lol.

And GTA V graphically aged extremely well compared to many 7th gen games primarily due to it's very very consistent art direction, couple that with it's scale and amount of content in both SP and MP it's no wonder that it's still huge.

I always felt that i didn't need to the game come out of the screen or me being absorbed into the screen because the realism of the graphics, i could still play a GTA 3 graphics style. Sure there's the nostalgia factor here that probably ist't present for the Z generation that maybe what they can play about low res polygons is Minecraft and that's it and then they only want the most realistic graphics ever, but there's some class in old graphics, some feel "cozy" when you play.

Wow i had no idea, it's really this bad, the FPS even go down to 14 FPS sometimes.

 

I even got 100+ FPS in the casino playing with PC in 2160p. Damn i could never imagine playing this game with a PS4 or XB1.

I think you need to look up the definition of consistent, since the aircraft carrier isn't always there it literally, by definition, can't be consistent, also just change sessions when there is a carrier on the map, no you shouldn't have to but it's an easy fix for someone that can only play on the one console they own

someone suggested they should halve the lobby size and get rid of the carrier BB, I completely agree, and now that new gen has exclusive stuff it shouldn't be an issue to make some more content exclusive, especially in the name of performance

It doesn't really matter both 15 and 20 FPS is horrible.

yes, it's bad, I was pointing out the several people in here who said consistent 15 were being hyperbolic, seems that happens a lot in this fandom, you've got people confusing 20-25 fps with 15 and people confusing the maximum you can make in a grind for making that consistently, you've got people that take anything about this game and exaggerate it to the extreme and pretend the extreme is the norm, and then use the extreme examples to back up their positions as if the extreme examples are the rule and not exceptions to the rule

the mc business raids are still annoying, i three of them pretty much back to back today.

the first one happened when i was going to check my night club (to see if i had enough to make a sale worth it (but ljt had other ideas)).

it seems like the upgrades to our mc businesses is pretty much a waste of money because before i upgraded them i seemed to had fewer raids.

That's the thing, what does "significantly better" look like? I remember asking this question in that other thread and got no responses, what the heck does significantly look better look like? is it like those graphics mods? because you know damn well none of them are going to run on our consoles.

 

I also saw some say "it should look like RDR2",  my question is how the hell would that even look like at that point? RDR2's visuals are breathtaking, but they are also tied to the art style and the way the world and assets are designed, GTAV looked phenomenal when it came for PS3, it also looks very good on PS4, even better on PC, but it is fundamentally the same art style, they aren't going to remake the whole thing again, that's what the next game is for.

 

Back before this release, I remember mentioning somewhere on this forum that no matter how it looked, it will never satisfy everyone, because everyone has a different idea of what a visually enhanced GTAV looks like.

Some small things would already make a big difference, like volumetric clouds, actual rain collision on the windshields plus driving wind so the rain drops physically correct makes it's way around the cars, windshield wipers, rearview and side mirrors that actually work and reflect things. The player character should cast a shadow if standing in the front of a cars headlight, also the taillights should cast shadows. This plus raytracing shadows and light should be available for the PC version, but of course completly optional incase some rigs can't handle it.

 

Oh yeah and to make all this possible the game needs DX12 and or Vulkan API, and DLSS and FSR 2.0 also wouldn't hurt.

 

That i would call significantly better.

They should've set the physics rate at what it currently is on pc at 60fps even back in the old days.

dude, R* even set the tickrate sometimes to even 15fps.
it also affects performence.
like in RDR2 and even V, some cloth in the environment are at only 15fps from the looks of things.
just walk through them and you will see.
having that get calculated at higher fps would result in more resources being needed.
so why should they make the whole game heavier to run by setting physics to a higher framerate just so you can keep a bit more speed.
it´s nonsense

wow...reading through all that sh*t...all these takes and opinions...i take framerate over graphics any day.
this is also what i like, going in and tweaking things so i get the best of both worlds.

i remember my 30fps days, and 60fps is soo much better, even with dips.

it´s just soo much smoother and enjoyable.

 

and then that sh*t with how physics apparantly untied from framerate is a negative thing...WTH?!
if no company would untie phyiscs from framerate, then we will end up years down the road with games freaking the f*ck out when PCs get so good that FPS are much higher.
imagine if nothing is untied from the framerate.
imagine timers.
imagine a timer for a mission would go faster if you have higher fps.
like a 6 min timer being 6 min at 30 but 3 min with 60.

that sounds f*cking stupid.
R* untying the framerate is a amazing thing, it was a lot of work.

required thousands of lines of code to be changed.
and i am glad how finally some fps related issues will get fixed

Crazy how Rockstar assembled this amount of data back in the day. Shows the importance of game telemetry. And I'm sure, nowadays, Rockstar takes the telemetry into account when it comes to decision making. There are a few metrics I didn't mention. But it's worth noting this is all collected by real-time telemetry. It all goes to Rockstar.

 

And for PC, you can see how Rockstar collects OS info, CPU, GPU, Memory usage and game settings without having to specify all that to them. But I guess you have to when it comes to communicating with Rockstar Support agents.

GTA V/Online has a metric (no pun intended) crap ton of telemetry, a new GTA Online census would be amazing to see. Or maybe even allow access to some of these stats in real time for the data nerds. :sadkek:  They literally track hundreds to thousands of things.
