I don't think that's happening in this version of Online, but I can absolutely see it being baked into the fabric of GTA VI.

 

I.e., imagine an equivalent of the comedy club in GTA IV, but where in Online, they can add new acts as part of updates. GTA V wasn't built with that in mind, and so things like The Music Locker are kind of a half-measure - but between the whole Circoloco deal, and yeah, the trend of virtual events in live-service games, I reckon they're going to build that kind of functionality into VI and VI's Online.

I thought I posted this the other day but my activity says otherwise and I quite like this idea.

 

I've always been iffy on Mansions, because; do we expect new ones placed on the map? Where on the map? Should it be the ones in Rockford Hills? Will all those uniquely shaped houses end up all using the same one of two interiors like the Biker Clubhouses with the choice of colours and art deco like the Agency? Those are just the starter questions for if Mansions were on land and not an off-shore open air interior private island like I suggested a while back.

 

I've finally got around to supporting the idea of owning Devin Weston's mansion - but it MUST be an open-air interior like the Cayo Beach Party, it CANNOT be like the Casino Roof Terrace - that way players can actually move around "their" mansion grounds freely as well as move in and out the mansion without load screens, cover the whole area in a huge "Press -> to Enter Mansion Grounds" volume, with a blue corona at the main gate. I would like to see a secondary/epilogue storyline attached to purchasing it though, like how Short Trips was a completely unexpected secondary storyline to the Dr Dre Contract... and a customisable throne room that's the most important of all.

But how is that worthwhile content for a video game? Games are for playing, not for watching simulated entertainment. It's one thing to do something like that sparingly and with minimal effort, but If this where it's going then Rockstar are even more f*cked than I thought. Should have known that it would fall apart quick once all the grownups with original ideas and talent left for greener pastures.

You say that like GTA IV didn't have the option to watch chunky animated versions of comedians deliver a routine you could probably watch more comfortably on the telly, or hours of in-game TV shows that no-one actually spends time watching (or if they do, it's when someone uploads them to YouTube).

 

People have been griping about Rockstar doing this for years - it's not a symptom of people leaving, but of Sam Houser's priorities as Big Cheese at Rockstar. Same reason why RDR2 has expanding horse balls, or specific NPCs you can follow around for a full 24-hour animation cycle (waking up, going to work, going to the shops, etc.). People talk about "polish" with Rockstar, but it's more opulence - Forza Horizon is polished, because everything is cleaned up and made as presentable as possible. Meanwhile, Rockstar doesn't so much polish their games as gold-plate them, and then hand-etch their signature into every nook and cranny.

 

It's like luxury cars that do things like have their badge made from a single hand-sculpted piece of aluminium, or Rolls-Royce putting animated shooting stars into the headliner. Does it make those cars better to drive, or show how well-built they are? No - but it sure does make them look and feel expensive, doesn't it?

No, I literally did say it's one thing to add as a minor feature, it's entirely another to focus whole DLCs on such things..

Matheus again? Jesus Christ. How many different leaks has he made up for this Summer already, and GTAO in general, that never came true? The same guy who kept trying to spread the Trilogy would be made on RAGE and didn't believe the Kotaku reports, that keeps asking us random questions on our GTANet account (like a true legit leaker would do of course) thinking that some Rockstar page artwork is GTA VI. Stop giving this guy attention!

 

Also, it's very possible he's regurgitating contextless info from a 2014 article with DJ Whoo Kid. (thanks Yan) Says the same things. A "GTA game" "set in NY" and him being in it.

To be fair, it's only ever been a side part of any update so far - and again, that's partly down to a lot of the necessary features and spaces not having been baked into GTA V originally, so there's a limit on how elaborate they can make anything like that.

 

That's why I reckon the next big evolutionary step will have to just be GTA VI, so they can put a dedicated in-game concert venue on the map that'll have all the foundations necessary from the get-go, and then they can add more artists and bits on top of that foundation with GTAO updates. And even then, I don't think there'll be one where the music/entertainment side is the main meat of the update - after all, even in stuff like The Contract, most of the actual gameplay is your typical GTA drivin' and shootin'. Or you have something like The Music Locker, which is a side attraction bolted on to the Cayo Perico update.

Also, Rockstar themselves posted a picture of Rosalía's ads in-game on an Insta Story last week, an actual new screenshot set up with people lining up for the Tequi-la-la and everything, promoting her album about 2 weeks after release. If these wannabe "leakers" at least used info like that as leverage, it'd be more convincing... More likely for us to get Rosalía as a contract than any of that tripe.
