I don't understand how they get our numbers in the first place.....I'm supposed to be this under world Kingpin but everyone can find my number.

I would kill for something like that...no more calls..it would be a sweet addon, I would flipping pay for it lol.

It seems like they keep narrowing down the time of exactly when NOT to call you. Since Tuesday I can't tell you how many times I got this call when I was engaged with another player.

Two things I've noticed, when people talk about the current state of Red Dead Online, and the way GTAO has mutated over the years, in relation to the early days: you have people rationalising the lack of meaningful stuff (particularly PvE) in RDO by saying "to be fair, GTAO didn't have that much, either" - and more frustratingly, folks at Rockstar, even, downplaying early GTAO by saying that the game only really took off and came together when Heists came out, effectively dismissing anything before that.

 

Re. GTAO not having that much to do at launch, that's only because you unlocked things gradually by ranking up - there were still 87 contact missions alone, plus versus missions, land/air/sea races, parachute jumps, etc., compared to the meagre amount of stuff in RDO. And best of all, you could do most of that stuff solo - meanwhile, RDO follows the post-Heists trend of everything needing 2 players minimum.

 

Speaking of Heists, here's why GTAO had declining numbers after launch: because R* launched an ongoing MMO-like title as part of a game most people were buying for the much-hyped single-player portion, at the very end of a console generation, right at the same time the new generation launched, and players were gradually upgrading. Likewise, shortly after Heists came out, GTA V/Online got a PC release, which bumped up player numbers.

 

Things is, Heists is also the update where Imran Sarwar started making more of a change to the original brief of GTAO - that update took so long, because his team decided the original take on GTAO Heists wasn't working, so they went back to the drawing board. It's also the first update to start the whole 'power creep' of Online, with things like bulletproof cars and purchasable combat jets - plus the one that introduced the now-notorious concept of "adversary modes".

 

Kinda funny that the current folks in charge of GTAO would want to downplay the stuff made before they could put their stamp on it, while citing their contributions as the things that finally 'made the game a success' - all while ignoring the various other factors that might also affect player numbers (like availability on current consoles/PC, for example). :sarcasm:

It's honestly not worth the hassle of driving a slow ass truck for 5 minutes

But is it even worth it? To keep that popularity up by replacing DJs? I gave up on that long time ago

Just played flag war three on three, and bugger if both my team mates kept forgetting they have one job to do with the flag.....get it home!  Not go chasing after the other team until you're killed and drop it.....

At least Lester(LJT), Agent 14, and Paige make sense as one is a IAA agent and the other two hackers

This also coincides with the time where most of the people in my own friends list stopped playing - many of which had been fans of GTA games since the top-down or GTAIII era, and were initially really into the idea of a GTA MMO. None of them thought that Heists were that good and were genuinely disappointed with the themes of the updates after that. By 2016 everyone I knew who had bought GTAV outside of these forums had given up, citing toxic players and "Saints Row gameplay" as the reasons they'd quit.

 

Occasionally they see news of released content for GTAO and ask me "why are you still playing that?"

 

 

 

Since 2017's updates, I don't really know why myself.

He gets the hair back in the character selection screen and Arena War modes, just not freeroam.

Well the most times I have it happen is when I go near a gang attack or certain events have had that happen a lot ya I'm guessing it's that like when you get police on you for just being near someone's specific missions involving police.

There was no event or gang attack, though. It's probably a bug. This game is filled with them anyway.

I really like the nightshark, but damn I hate them guns on it...most stupid thing they do is add crap like that you can't take off.

If they had to add guns to it why not let us pick if we want dumb looking ones like it has or let us buy a top mouted mg or combat mg...

I don't know how many times I've gotten a call exactly when I'm entering my:  bunker

                                                                                                                        office

                                                                                                                        nightclub

                                                                                                                        TByte

                                                                                                                        store which I intend to rob

I usually don't even get to see who it was.

It rings then the game goes into the entry cutscene.

I keep thinking it may be the assistant calling about a rare item!

This interview with IGN from 2014, shortly after the Heists reveal trailer. That's not everything I was looking for, though - can't remember a similar piece where it's more explicitly stated that they went from trying to replicate the structure of the original single-player Heists, to scrapping everything and reworking things until they came up with the final version (where in most cases, everyone's doing everything simultaneously, with only a few instances where the team actually gets to do meaningfully different things).

 

I do find this paragraph interesting, reading it again now:

 

"A good example is the classic idea of your getaway driver, waiting outside of a bank for the big score. A movie might not spend too much time focusing on that person because while they are waiting, we are watching the action going down in the vault. In a similar situation in Story Mode, we could use a character switch to make sure the player was always in the center of the action and switch back to the driver later. But to make this work for multiple players, we needed to create situations where the driver has something interesting to do at exactly the same time the rest of their team are locking down the bank and making their way to the money."

 

See, what amuses me is that only a year ago, we actually got a movie where that happens - and it's exactly the sort of 'asymmetric' approach to a heist that I reckon would have worked better for GTAO:

 

 

 

 

I'd love to play something more like that - meanwhile, there's a lot of stuff in even the original heists where everyone's doing the same thing, just so 'everyone has something to do'. That's only even more the case in Doomsday Heist - often seems like the only thing preventing those jobs from being playable solo is the sheer volume of aimbot bullet-sponges coming in from all angles, rather than anything that actually requires players working in different simultaneous roles.

Don't know how I'm already in bad sport again since I blew up very few personnel vehicles but hey whatever my only complaint is I can't use thermal goggles, retarded.
