Blackwater robbery starts RDR2? Well then how come RDR1 starts with news of the BW robbery like it just happened. Im missing something here. Someone fill me in.

I've read somewhere in this forum that it starts in 1899 right before the robbery and massacre in Blackwater. Then after the failed robbery, the gang has to go on the run from law enforcement. The failed robbery in 1906 is where John Marston is left for dead. We have no idea what went down. But if Rockstar is telling the whole story of the rise and fall of the game, there's no doubt we'll see it go down in RDR2

The interesting thing about ps4 pro and xbox one x isn't the graphics per se tho, it's the 4k and hdr support, that change a lot the perception of the game, regarding the textures and colors, mainly. I'm sure the standard ps4 will handle it beautifully, but the upgraded ones will go even further...

The standard PS4 also supports HDR. The only thing difference is the resolution. The base PS4 is only capable of providing a 1080p output.

i don't think any of us are ready for this game. we don't even know the half of it

Good point.  For what it's worth, here's my view of it:

Like RDR1, and GTAV, and like GTA IV in its time, I think the virtual world design, and associated physical mechanisms within it, will be an absolutely mind-blowing masterpiece, a work of art in every sense.  That alone is worth the price, and the adulation.

However, it's still a game, with missions and activities, which (in part) limits the opportunity for RDR2 (or any other game) to be a literary / cinematic-scale work of story art.  Furthermore, I wish that Rockstar would hire some real seriously good screenwriters to create the story and the script and the scenes for these games.

In my opinion, the stories, the story arc, and the cutscenes in general don't have as much expertise or depth as the game world design, even though it requires massive resources to make them.  It's like a big expensive movie built on a mediocre, or even cheesy, script.  Of course, we see this all the time, especially with the cinematic big blockbusters, sci-fi and action movies, and it's really disappointing, but it's a fact of life.  I wish the Rockstar games could be different, and better.

Frankly, in retrospect, now that GTAV/GTA online is seen to be the largest single media creation in the history of creative media, we can see that the relatively flimsy story and character development is the weakest part.  What's worse, is that sometimes, it seems like they're trying almost too hard, and still coming up short.  I'm thinking of the Online DLC cutscenes / stories/ dialog, as well as the original GTAV story.  The editorial tuning, and the quality of the direction, both seem a bit phoned-in; i.e., turn the crank, get the DLC missions out there.  And as we all know, even the DLC missions aren't all that.  Hey, it's still good; it's just not ... great.

GTAV is still mind-blowing popular, due to the fun that can be had in its virtual world.  But for all the money it made, you would think that Rockstar would try to redeem the original story with a much deeper, better, truly artistic story written in the same virtual world, to leave the world with a fully - fledged legend in game history.  So much more potential is just sitting there.

Anyway, I'm saying this because I'm afraid that the mismatch between the RDR2 world and the RDR2 script/story is going to come up short again.  I'm sad about that.  Let's acknowledge that RDR1 did make a pretty darn good attempt at story, and it was better than GTAV.  Let's hope Rockstar really strikes story gold in RDR2, through honest, hard creative effort.

i don't agree with that at all. i think were going to see a very good story filled with a lot great moments. Remember were seeing the rise and fall of the gang. Were going to see Dutch go from his prime to going crazy and killing everybody. We have to form relationships with each member of the game, some are gonna be friends but others will become enemies, and we will be put in risky situations. As we can see from the gameplay, you can interact with anybody. So the story will be very interactive. We've been told this is the greatest game ever seen. I have no doubt of how great it's going to be. I say "were not ready for this" with amazement and eagerness.

This will probably be one of the most emotional plots in gaming. Just think about all of the gang members that won't make it to the end. For all we know we (Arthur) may be the ones who decide how the story goes. Of course we won't lose Dutch or John or any other original characters but imagine having to choose between Charles or Sadie and being emotionally connected to both. There's gotta be a few moments in the game that'll have everybody in their feelings.

Come launch day if you're going digital is anyone going to try that New Zealand account trick to play the game early on PS4?

Just a reminder, base level consoles also support HDR, if you own or you're planning to upgrade to a 4K HDR TV keep in mind that you'll still benefit from HDR capabilities.

I think 2 dollars is a bit low for a buck revolver, even in 1899. It should be more like 10-12 dollars right?

I think it's a matter of taste. I've watched The Sopranos and Deadwood, and while I love both shows, I personally enjoy Deadwood a lot more - despite its occasionally incoherent plot and its disappointing cancellation.

For sure. When discussing some of the greatest shows of all time, it's all subjective. Everyone knows Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, BrBa, etc etc etc are among the best of the best. And just like video games (and really anything), it's all subjective. RDR is my 1A favorite game of all time, but IGN has it at #3. When you get into the best of the best, the discussions have to be subjective because so many people would agree with me that RDR is the greatest game they've ever played, but so many others would pick a different game.

The Sopranos is IMO. I got the complete series of The Wire on DVD too. Great show! You got me nervous for a second... thought you were gonna say GoT wanted to talk to me. I would have completely ignored that post and laughed. Still love ya though mah dude!

Deadwood was cancelled? Damn. The Sopranos had a good run from 1999-2007 at least despite James Gandolfini’s fued with wanting more money thus putting production on hold skipping a year off or two before resuming.

ON-TOPIC:

Unwrapping that plastic (I’m a physical copy kinda guy) from a NEW Rockstar title in 5 years come October is gonna be special. Think about that for a second... especially for people who still get the physical copies of video games... 5 years since we had a NEW game with that infamous Rockstar Games logo smack dab on the bottom right corner of the case. :r*:

I totally hope you're completely right.  As far as the game design goes, I agree that more interactivity and complexity have been implied, if not promised, by Rockstar. In this potentially great work of art, there could be so much potential for interactions and structure other than simply shooting and blowing up everything in sight.

I appreciate you reading my whole rant.  I realize now that I should have just said, "A billion dollar media property deserves a billion dollar story and script."

🤔 That would explain then how Dutch gets his "buddy" out in the beginning.. Get out of jail free card anyone? Arthur "just visiting"? ;)

I would buy an rdr2 monopoly without thinking and be at the store before I finish blinking, because not being able to play that masterpiece would be really stinking. All that rhyming got me thirsty though, whatchu drinking? :D

So now more than 3 trailers seems highly unlikely!

Next week expect Gameplay 2.

After 2 weeks of that an Online trailer.

And a launch trailer in early October.

But September is gonna be lit for sure with definite previews, screens, artworks and maybe an updated website with various brands and catalogues.

Why are you sursprised? With a guy like Micah Bell in your gang...Makes Bill Williamson look like a damn brain surgeon in comparison.

In the light of New Austin being teased by Rockstar, I quote Marshal Johnson's conversation with Marston in regard to why the town of Tumbleweed (TW) has turned into to what it's.

Quote

“Tumbleweed? A lonely, godforsaken place. Some people say it's haunted. It was quite a town back in its day. Then they built the railroad to Armadillo and went clean past Tumbleweed. And that was that. Pretty soon, everybody had upped and left. Now it's just thieves, smugglers and bandits...”

Others have already suggested that New Austin (NA) might be locked initially, and as time progresses and new railroads and settlements are being built, we'd get access to NA and slowly witness TW turns into the ghost town that it was in Redemption. It's an exciting idea to not only see the Van der Linde gang in their heyday, but also to see what NA was like 5+ years before the sole adventures of Marston. There are interesting stories to tell and beautiful sceneries to re-admire. It'll be one helluva map.
