Reading through the comments, most people he is interacting with aren't even being negative about RDR2. He's trying to engage in arguments that aren't there.

 

Tickles me, as I thought he was a bit of an ass on here.

Do you guys think taking a hiatus from this board will make the wait easier for the #2 gameplay trailer? My sense of patience has been brutalized by Rockstar

Cyberpunk 2077 looks great, but let's not forget that CDPR had huge downgrades between The Witcher 3's promotional material and the games release. In the final frame of the trailer, the company literally warned us that the final game won't look like this and that the entire purpose of the demo was to "get a feeling" of what we're going to get whenever it eventually releases.

Each time we discussed the idea of showing the game to you (and we discussed this idea a lot), we were ending up in this "we're not 100% sure" limbo. Why? Cyberpunk 2077 is deep in development. We have a lot of design ideas, a lot of mechanics being playtested, but we don't know what we'll end up with at launch. Change is inherent to game development and there's a ton of things being modified each day. Our fear was (and kind of still is) that you'll think what you just saw is how Cyberpunk 2077 will look like 1:1.

This is the exact opposite of how Rockstar do things and I couldn't be more grateful. 

 

Edit: For a little further clarification, the largest RDRII leak - you know the one that spoke of an outlaw leader named Arthur, the camp system, and John birthing a foal - was based entirely off a vertical slice from 2015. Imagine if Rockstar had have showed us this vertical slice. For all we know the game is an entirely different beast at this point.

But at the same time, I have to wonder what the point of showing something off so early is. To give us a feel of the world? Okay, but that only accomplishes so much. I appreciate that they admit that the game will go through major changes between now and release, but that means that what I just saw will most likely be nothing like/very different from what the final game will be. It has the same effect on me that a CGI trailer would.

 

Rockstar's method has its own frustrations (LONG wait, multiple delays, general media silence), but when they do show stuff closer to release, we have reason to believe that what we see is what the final game will look like. It all depends on whether believe that the wait for news/gameplay is worth it.

You do realize that Cyberpunk 2077 is unfinished and at least 2 years out right?

 

RDR2 Is pretty much complete and comes out in less than 2 months.

 

To me Cyberpunk looks great for an unfinished game. Not bad at all

From what I saw it sounds like CDPR caved due to fan pressure and confidence after high praise from showing it to numerous gaming journalists who were impressed how solid it looked despite it still being a ways away. They admitted them selves though, stuff changes, Rockstar have alluded to the same thing being the reason they don't show off their games too early.

 

Also the visual/tech comparisons going on between RDR2 and Cyberpunk are hilarious. Both look visually impressive for a lot of different reasons, they'll both likely end the generation as the two most impressive open world games - unless GTA VI somehow squeezes in before the new consoles anyway.

This is what I really don’t get. How can you compare the tech of a game that is less than two months away to a game that is an indefinite amount of time from release? Especially after the downgrades that occurred during The Witcher 3’s production, it just doesn’t make sense to compare right now.

On Reddit some people mentioned that it was to slowly stir away from their tweet that a lot of people found offensive a couple days ago followed by their apology tweet right after and showing this gameplay demo would make people forget about it. Highly, highly doubt that though.

Offense is a lot like success. Significant (arguably) in the short-term, but ultimately fleeting. Especially now in the age of social media. They'll find something else to be offended at soon enough.
