Damn this thread always calms me down. Too much toxicity and argument in the GTA threads. Glad this thread exists.

Maybe.

But what would be the point other than to annoy fanboys?

Look, I still remember when the first teaser trailer dropped, a whole lot of people were still in denial that the game would be a prequel.  And it DEFINITELY wouldn't be about Dutch's Gang.  We already know how that story ends, so it's obviously an entirely different story and cast of characters.   Trailer 2 drops...oops.   Well, it DEFINITELY won't feature John Marston, we already know how that story ends, so obviously John Marston won't be in it.   Trailer 3 drops...oops.

Ad infinitum.   Rockstar could've gone in an entirely different direction with RDR2 by introducing brand new characters and a brand new map, and nobody would cry.  But they ultimately chose to continue the story of Dutch's Gang and John Marston by tracing the roots of the division and breakup of the gang, and how it set the survivors on a collision course in 1911.   They chose to continue that story because they know so many fans love the characters, and want to see how it all turned out.   Rockstar wouldn't leave us hanging again....they know we're looking for loose ends to be tied, mysteries to be solved, questions to be answered.   So Rockstar is gonna see to it.

My only concern about the game is the story

Knowing what will happen to most of those characters spoils part of the fun

Not necessarily. You don't  know anything about what happened in the interim, or their beginnings, etc. There's A LOT to do in a prequel.

Actually it's good that R* introduced many characters we didn't know from RDR. they are gonna fill the gap.

I honestly believe if the game doesn't sell amazingly like GTAV at first it will ramp up sells over time because what's better then game reviews? Word of mouth.

Time jumps would not be for the better. All it's focus should go into the events of 1899. Jumping from year to year doesn't give a consistent experience.

But we'll know after RDR2 is over.

We will have the fire, and the knowledge of fire.  And with that comes the knowledge of EVERYTHING.   See?  Rockstar promised us!  🤠

I don't think it spoils anything, necessarily. Just because we think we know where things are going to end up, it doesn't mean the events leading up it can't make for a great story.

I mean look at the film RDR2 is taking at least a bit of inspiration from: "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." The climatic event is literally in the title. But the tension comes from seeing how Robert Ford was driven from being a huge admirer of Jesse James to being the man who ultimately murdered him.

Why do you feel it's necessary to keep it in just one year?   I mean, it's gonna take weeks just to cross a territory, months to cross the whole map.  (Theoretically.  Don't take that literally.)   The collapse of a gang should be a slow burn, not an overnight turnaround.  That burn needs to be fed with intrigue, doubt, betrayal, power plays, treachery to be punished, loyalty to be rewarded.   It's a vast world.  There's gonna be a vast amount of people to do, places to meet, things to see.     Even if you *wanted* it to take place in one year, there's just no physical way it could.

Exactly.

We watch movies and read books and play games about historical events and true life and we know exactly how it all ends up, but that doesn't stop us from wanting to know how it unfolded, and the joys of following along with that.  The ending doesn't justify the means.

Edit:

TITANIC -- spoiler alert:   the ship sinks.

I agree, one year doesn't justify how the story will unfold for me, i want to see the rise & fall of the gang across a long period of time!

This game will be a huge improvement over Redemption. And since it's been worked on for so long I'm very much looking forward to the new features.

Weapons can be upgraded which is huge for a Red Dead game. Most likely a crafting system (blacksmith). And the fact that horses can be used to carry items is amazing.

We will probably get to craft handles for knives, guns ect.

Maybe have engravings.

Some of y'all are still misunderstanding this.

No, I'm NOT saying RDR2 will make you replay RDR1.  Of course not, not even.  What I AM saying is that there's still a lot of blank spaces to be filled between 1906 and 1911, and that RDR2 would lead up to the START of RDR1 in 1911.  NOT carry through the whole damn game again.

And I'm not sure why some of you are hung up on the fact that we already know how RDR1 ends.   Sure....but we don't know how RDR1 *begins.*  There's a lot of questions still to be answered about how Dutch, John, Bill and Javier ended up where they did; and now we have more questions about who else in the gang managed to make it out alive....especially Arthur.   After all, it's still his story.

Adventure is about the journey, not the destination.  It doesn't matter that you know where you're going:   what matters is that you don't have a clue how you're gonna get there.   And that's what it's all about.  The end is the beginning.   The end of RDR2 is the beginning of RDR1....it's a simple concept.

What I'm saying the things that we already know of, doesn't all need to be apart of this story. Meaning we don't need to see john get shot in 1906 because we already know he gets shot. Yes the details are vague on how and why but that doesn't need to be the ending or a focal point in the story. The game isn't going to just be 'filler content' with showing us everything we already learned from RDR. How john begins RDR doesn't need to directly tie into RDR2 necessarily just because it's a prequel. How they [use] the connected tissue of RDR is impressive not just completely connecting both games just for the hell of it. Something's are going to be left for us to figure out or make of it as we want. That's the beauty of good story telling sometimes. A game time jumping from 1899 to 1906 or 1911 just to show me something I already know happens? Idk about that bud.

Did are you think that guy who leaked the Red Dead Redemption 2 main protagonist name and the end of the story can be wrong? I really didin't like the end and i am worried.

@BretMaverick777

Nearly all Rockstar games have some themes of gangs losing control and they also happen during one year.

The best example being gta San Andreas. There your gang dies out and you even revive it. All within one year.

That's just Rockstar's style.

Besides you have to remember, it's confirmed the game starts with a f*ck up during a heist. Tension will be big in the gang from the start.

The eventual fracturing of the Van Der Linde gang will already be in effect during the beginning of the game.

Leakers that go that far as to tell the ending of a game are annoying as hell. I don't pay attention to it really don't wanna get spoiled or even have hints and ideas but anyway I don't think they're right. The guy who said multiple protagonists and sh*t was wrong too. I'd take anything they say with a grain of salt it's really nothing to worry about at all. Refuse to believe anything unless it comes from R*

True that. Major leakers are bad as it is. But ending leakers... they're the worst of the worst.

What gets me is the fact of this leak claims the name of the protagonist and the leaker said that: "The core mechanic of the game is having to maintain and continuously move your outlaw camp". And this came before the first trailer (i think).
