What kind of rewards would encourage you to play the RDO Beta?

Personally some unique outfits/clothes or mounts would make me wanna play the beta.

I feel a reward system would encourage more people to play the beta and give feedback, giving them an incentive to play and to then get those rewards when online launches.

Unique clothing for testing the beta and maybe just a little extra cash once you begin playing the official release.

Unique customize options or unique clothing that show you participated in beta that you won't be able to obtain in another way. (after beta ends)

no i mean, there are some people who wouldn't play it because "it's a beta"

for testing some people should get exclusive things for going through numerous bugs and glitches, not a "im entitled to everything" way.

No one said there's guaranteed to be "numerous" bugs and glitches upon playing the game. They're simply releasing it as a beta as a way of keeping their hands close to their chest in case of servers going down and everything else that happens when you launch a huge online game like this.

Usually participating BETA brings you a reward(s). Probably you haven't participate any?

This is not like traditional betas other console game companies do pre-launch, where they let you try out a demo version of their game and get some sort of dog-tag or something that shows you played the beta when the full game launches. This is a post-release "beta", that will likely be running for an extended amount of time. Possibly several months. Any progress you make with your character in this beta will continue existing after they've removed the Beta portion from the title. All this is, really, is their way of having I guess you could call it, an "excuse" for like the guy above me said, server downtime issues, bugs, and community feedback evolution of the game.

However, there could be a chance for some minor trinkets or skins/ templates for tents/ clothing or gear that would otherwise be unavailable once the beta moniker gets removed to be given to early adopters. That would be cool and I could see something like that.

Getting to play RDO at all is a privilege for me. Even if our progress doesn't carry over to the "official" release, I'm joining the first day it's available.

Depends if they do a progression wipe or not. That's probably a big reason why devs give unique beta rewards out, as a lot of people don't wanna play alpha and betas as their progress won't save.

Same here man. However, it would seem odd that they would charge an additional $20 for Ultimate over Special for only bonuses to that being online mode perks, that would either not be functional right away or will be available immediately but disappear with a wipe. It just wouldn't make sense, especially the one which ensures double XP up to rank 25.

This is very true of many other titles with betas that do not carry progression over to the full game, but what about the big population of people who purchased the Ultimate Edition? Kinda defeats the purpose of those extra $20 if the online bonuses won't be around as soon as online is available or disappear once a wipe happens, even if only to be reconstituted once again after a wipe.

Yea it really depends what kind of beta they do.

Will it be a more traditional beta where they have set testing days with the beta lasting a couple of weeks, a month or two tops or will it be more like an early access game where the beta is essentially a soft launch. I'm leaning towards the latter personally, so I don't expect a progression wipe.

Exactly, I agree there. It most likely is like a soft launch as you mentioned. Not particularly happy with that and I do sort of wish they had planned a bit more in advance to have this ready better as it sounds like they aren't even sure of the perpetual direction of it, but on the other hand, this sounds like they might make an effort to actually please the community with attentive and responsive feedback communications. The nature of it coming out at first as a beta means they will keep a close keen eye onto what's going on daily on their game. It sounds and feels as though they may actually want this to appeal to more people as it grows, rather than trial by fire and without listening to players much as they did with GTAO.

Eh, I'm fine with the "beta" being more of a soft launch. I remember the cluster-f*** that was the GTAO launch.  No doubt they're anticipating a repeat. Rockstar was expecting GTAV to do well. But not THAT well. So everyone jumped on Online at the same time and the servers melted under the load. I bet you it happens again.

A little bonus trinket would be nice, but I don't really expect it and I'm not going to be heartbroken if there isn't anything.

Getting to play it is a reward in itself (Provided that the online doesn't freeze up, crash too much etc....) but a little cash bonus or some unique cosmetic for participating in the beta couldn't hurt but I'm not expecting anything tbh.

Some kind of unique weapon/property/horse could be cool but then again we are getting some benefits from the GTA Online RDR2 treasure/bounty hunts.

I suspect that they'll do exactly the same as GTAO, but framed as a 'beta' for maximum ass-coverage. ;)

I.e., apparently the folks at R* suspected that GTAO might have some teething problems at launch, and so decided to treat the first few weeks as a 'stress test' - so they're doing the same again, but calling it a 'beta' and telling people upfront that there might be problems, so that players know that things might go wrong and aren't as frustrated as back in 2013.

Likewise, I reckon they might well give players a similar in-game cash gift, like the 2013 "stimulus package" for all players who tried GTAO in those first two weeks - same deal, except instead of framing it as "here's something to apologise for the frustration", it'll be "this is to say thanks for taking part in the beta".

Or it'll be like the PlayStation Home "Beta" that never exited beta and lasted until Sony ended services for PlayStation Home. RDR Online could end up being a perpetual beta as they constantly add new features to the game.

I mean, framed like that, any game with post-launch DLC is permanently in "beta", too...

Again (and I can't find the exact interview, which is a pain in the arse...), folks at R* are on record as having said (in as many words) "yeah, we were treating the first few weeks of GTAO as an unofficial 'stress test', because we figured things might need fixing when the game when live and players started flooding in". Like I said, they could have probably saved players a headache and maintained a bit more goodwill by actually calling the thing a beta or stress test, so that players would go into the early experience aware that R* were still ironing out the kinds of early kinks that would only show up when the game was available to the public.

Seems like they've decided pretty much the same, which is why they're actually calling the early days of RDO a beta, rather than "whoops, our game keeps eating players' progress...".

GTA Plus Enjoyer

I can only suppose that you were drunk or drugged when writing this...

The greatest game ever is going to be released, and YOU want THE COMPANY that has spent 8 years making it GIVE YOU a reward to play the beta, meaning earlier than other people?

I'd pay THEM to pay the beta ffs lol

I'm personally going to take my time and enjoy every bit of single player before I get into online. It might be about 6 months before I get into online.

I just want the chance to play the beta, I've been anticipating this game for so damn long. And I don't give a crap about single player.

Getting to play Red Dead Online is enough of a reward to encourage me to play it in the BETA. However if R* wants to throw me some free money, I'm not gonna complain. Like a couple others have said, it's likely just R* way of covering their asses if the sh*t hits the fan with the servers, and i have no problem with that. I still remember how disastrous the launch of GTA:O was.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just hope they take what people say on board if there are major problems. If you have an orbital cannon exploit scale problem, then that needs to be addressed. So, shaping the game I guess is the reward for playing the beta.

The beta is really just the game anyway. They're obviously just calling it a beta in case everyone's progress gets wiped like in GTA's early days.

I really feel like people are putting too much emphasis on the word "beta" . Don't expect it to be in "beta" very long.  My honest opinion is the only reason they even used that word , was to try to temper peoples expectations the first week its released. They didnt do that with GTA V O and the amount of people that jumped on it that first week, i dont think even Rockstar was prepared for. So you basically could hardly connect that first week and a half. Since it was not deemed "beta" people expected it to "just work" at launch.

The only reason they used that word is to temper peoples expectations and so they dont feel so much heat when people are losing connections constantly for the first week and a half until they get it all sorted out and running smoother. I really thinkg people are now doing the opposite and taking the word "beta" to mean much more than it really does. This wont be in beta very long. There wont be and does not need to be a "reward" ( participation award) for playing it .

REGARDLESS, for all the HARD BETA TESTING I am doing I want a truly unique HAT tailor-made just for me, by me. like color and pattern scheme or something, I draw that sh*t up then I PM a paint.ms image to the devs and they turn it into code and have it ready for me to pick up at my nearest trusted dealer for hats!

An item of clothing or something non-game changing or altering would be cool, not too much though I feel. Mixed feelings really.

If the game is made well, I don't believe I'll need money for I'll be happy to earn some again instead of a small bump if it's needed and fairly reasonable to do freely. Same for rank really, but it'd be nice to keep too.

I do want to see these games become more free and flexible in that if you join at anytime, the game doesn't exclude players from too much so there's great variety and choice all round as I feel though GTA:O was mega, it was a bit strong in places. (Especially for those falsely banned and such losing beer hats or something).

Maybe free items but available a few weeks later for purchase in game too for all. I dunno. But if playing/reporting issues proves helpful all round, that would feel rewarding too, very much.
