Is it EVER ok to use the Orbital Cannon?

Seriously go check my thread on this matter. Still cant believe people have the audacity to tell me it should remain or that it should "balance". Get the f*ck out my face with that sh*t, it needs to be removed all together. Funny how when modders blow up people R lose their sh*t A BIT yet when they can monetize and profit off of the same crap the modders do then its alright. On god this company is ass backwards and full of pure steaming hot sh*t sometimes.

I get hit a lot with orbitals, but only used it once on somebody in god mode, I kept hitting them over and over until they left.

Exactly. When Cockstar realize they can profit over it, that's when all bets are off. Are you willing to pay millions? Well, then here you go.

 

Cockstar know that there will be people who will buy shark cards for these kind of things, seeing as there are so many sweaty and desperate cryhards in this game. Some have said that it's a way of draining modded cash. Well, what a sh*t way of doing so. Let people exploit a cannon from the sky and kill anyone within a click of  a button (worse with the unlimited cannon glitch, which makes it free) just to drain some modded/glitched cash? Is that how bad your anti-cheat is that you have to resort to this kind of garbage? f*cking hell, they didn't even test the damn thing before they added it in.

 

Pathetic. I feel like this is a completely different team to the one that worked on GTA Online 3 - 4 years ago, and this team is trying to milk the f*ck out of this game as much as possible. They don't have a clue.

As @Arrows to Athens Just mentioned, there really is too much that contradicts the game or is far too vague. We all have our limits to what griefing is, so that option to report is very flawed. But it's with the insurance, they recently halved the bigger ones to $10k, it just shows they intend for us to not fight back by destroying thing that are made directly to kill players with.

 

If someone's persistent in attacking and a seller gets sucked in, spending a $30-50k on insurance can quickly come, and that's only ever gonna punish newer players as many that are long term are not short that sort of loose change. Then add the BS points up, just no need for those 2 anymore. I'm not one that minds if others destroy my cars, but I'm definitely not bothered if they get charged for it. There's nothing in it for me, lol.

Yes. Fact is, I used it today on a teleporting griefer who was terrorizing an organization of low rankers. Wasn't easy tho, as he kept jumping all over the place I couldn't get a lock on him, but, after reporting him he stopped for a second and... BOOM! I quickly shut the application cuz even I is a billionaire cat I is also a cheap cat and don't like to pay big fat bills.

I've used it twice.  First time was the free one at Christmas and to get the trophy.   I choose someone who was going around the lobby killing people, I've got a bit of a conscious. 

 

The other one was last week because someone blew me up on a NC sell mission, which was fair enough, it's part of the game.  But, the little douche kept going passive in his jet everytime I went after him.  

 

It wasn't about the money, which my character is loaded anyways, it was about the principle.

I have no issue with it in principle, because most of the complaints here are related to modding, which is a PC prevalent problem, not on consoles.

 

It's $500,000 a go at its cheapest so I very rarely see it (or hear it) on XB1, because the players don't generally have the means to frig either the cannon or the money required to use it.

 

To that end then, I would say that its cost-per-use makes it cost prohibitive, and thus balances out its level of OP

Probably mentioned but the only valid reason to use it is god mode users. You can bounce them around like a toy and eventually they'll just leave!

It's not just the modding.  Anyone can abuse the Orbital Cannon.

 

Fire cannon, kill player, quickly dashboard and close GTA so game does not save the spent money, re-open, go to recent player list and join player's session, repeat.

 

It's poor testing on R*'s side of things.  The way they could have countered this is by making you pay for a cannon shot, but then there is a "charge" time of 2 minutes until the cannon is ready to fire.  This way, it forces you to wait 2 minutes, which will be just enough time to save your game to the servers and the money you just spend on the cannon.  Simple.

 

Also, those delivering cargo should NOT show up on the cannon.  In my opinion, the only ones who should show on the cannon map are "high risk" targets.  This would give the Orbital Cannon a kind of state security, state surveillance feel to it.  High risk targets could be anyone using a weaponised vehicle (excluding those making deliveries) and anyone with a high mental state.  This would truly make the Orbital Cannon an anti-griefing weapon.  But then, as many have said, it's not in R*'s interest to penalise griefers, as they help them make it hard for people to make money in-game, thus trying to force people to shark card...

I've got no problem with it in general...most people (myself included) usually deserve/earned getting hit with it...it actually feels kinda good when it's the best an opponent can do against you...

If someone wants to take a shot and quit then they are forever gone so who really cares...though I still wish the disconnect glitch was patched to balance it a bit...

 

I'd bet most here who really hate it haven't even been hit with it that many times.

i tried firing mine twice.   on manual.   missed both times.

 

i don't think i ever got blasted by one until the other day when i suddenly exploded while flying peacefully in my hydra.    to be fair, shortly before that i'd been terrorizing the lobby on one of my broomsticks, i believe.

 

a week or so ago, i had been rampaging in freeroam like a boss for probably two hours, sort of indiscriminately laying waste with a good friend (you can thank rockstar for hiding your sales blips when i'm running HH or Fully Loaded, by the way--i really *would* at least TRY to avoid blowing up your hard-earned sh*t if i knew that's what it was), and all the killing and mayhem really built up a jones for some nicotine, so i teleported to the Facility just to go afk for a while... and the 10+ minutes of sh*t that one of the other players was talking to me about 'you get one shot with the OC, kid, better make it good...' was almost better than the rampage.     don't even own it with that character.

I used to get mad when it was used on me. I laugh now.

Then again, if I'm in a bad spot, feel like I want to get even and my opponent knows I'm trying to orbital him, I'm committed to the cause.

Committed til he slips up and leaves passive long enough for me to catch him out with it.

Though, mostly it collects dust. I tend to use it for more of a false flag scenario - make someone think I'm going to use it via heist warp, just to watch them hide.

I've used it more than a few times since I have money to burn.

A couple of days ago I got hit by it for the first time. I deserved it though, I was teleporting around with my yacht when this guy was trying to collect my bounty. He flew all the way across the map only to get shot down, and then I moved the Yacht, so he teleported to his facility and blasted me.

Of course then he left the session and immediately returned so I knew what was up and went passive so he couldn't spam the thing on me

Well no one can force you not to. Whether you can do it and not have people look down on it - there are plenty of different situations that can rise up in the game.

 

My biggest use for it is godmode players.

I still have my free shot from last xmass, I'll probably drop it on some griefer right before xmass this year, just so my OCD won't get offended for wasting 1mil of free ammo. (unless it builds up? in that case let it)
