The Getaway and Vice City

I would like to start out my topic like I always do: I feel that Vice City is the best game ever invented and I love to play it.

However, I feel that the getaway is a very cool game and Rockstar North could use some of the things that Sony used in the getaway to make their next GTA game even better.  The graphics kick ass.  I am willing to give up some pizza missions or firetruck missions and a few radio stations to make the graphics even better, arent you?

What do you think?

I'm not, it's the small things that matter to me, grpahics are just a bonus. Anyway, I didn't even like the Getaway as it just felt like a restricted GTA.

The Getaway is not intended on being a Vice City they are totally different.  ANyways I cant believe you wont agree with me tha The Getaway had some better things than vice city, But its not a better game just has some better things

i thought the getaway sucked ballz. but i would like a much bigger world to explore so they should put it on 2 disks (then you would be able to see farther and have more space )

So did I and all my friends.. I thought it'd be great, but sadly, no.

I know it's not supposed to be a GTA, but it just felt lika a restricted one to me.

most definitely. i dislike the pizza/firetruck/vigilante missions

with a passion.. and i wouldn't mind one bit if they cut those

out to make the graphics a little better and more elaborate.

I say they dump all the extra missions except Vigilante & hidden packages.  Those two are good, but the rest suck massive amounts of wang.

Hmmmm

The graphics of the getaway come at a price, you cannot look behind or sideways, that seriously sucks and would be terrible in GTA. Radio stations/ missions have nothing to do with it other than disc space.

You see making it run smooth takes more than just removing some features, I would rather have crapper graphics if the game ran smooth... gameplay is all that matters and GTA has that in bucketloads.

Yeah! Heard Widow!

TG was set to be realistic, and does that perfectly... but after having played GTA3 or VC, it's a tame experience.

The Getaway is no fun compared to VC. But it could lend VC some things:

1) Taking hostages at gunpoint. I really liked this feature because you could manipulate gunfights by taking an innocent civillian by the neck and dragging them around until you are safe. The law can't shoot you and after a while they put down their guns and let you get into a car.

2) Rush hour traffic/traffic. Yeah VC can be really sparse traffic wise sometimes and police chases are too easy with no cars on the road so make the 12pm traffic should be bumper-to-bumper. Also when cars stop at red lights there should be a good few cars waiting to go. VC has no real traffic.

Yeah, I liked that feature too but didn't use it much... wanna know why? BECAUSE THE CONTROLS ARE SO sh*tTY! Having said that, I wan't to point out that I handle a PS2 controller very well, and it's not me that are something wrong with :sly:

The Getaway:

Realism: 80%

Gameplay: 5%

Boredom: 15%

I agree with earldoyle, VC is the better game by far, but the Getaway has some cool things to it too that could make GTA even better if they were implemented.

1)  GTA and better graphics?  Forget about it untill the PS 3.  If the next GTA is San Andreas and comes out on the PS 2, I'd expect only minor improvements in the graphics.

2)  Like Mini-gun pointed out, the traffic was bumper to bumper in TG.  Personally I thought this was an amazing part of the game because you can jack about 30 cars and park them in the middle of an intersection an none of them disappear untill you leave the scene.  And yeah, the traffic in TG makes for some excellent car chases.  I'm quite good at getting a gang car and a cop car to chase after me while weaving in and out of traffic.  Maybe when you beat the game in the next GTA, you should be given the option of increasing/decreasing traffic flow.

3)  While the controls aren't that great in TG, I still like some of the moves, such as taking people hostage and the stealth mode, but the character should've been able to jump damnit!  But I blame the sh*ttiness of the controls on the PS 2 controller.  Had the game been ported to PC, the controls would kick ass.

4)  The size of London in TG is amazing too, way bigger than VC.  However, the city leaves little to the imagination as you can't get on rooftops, the interiors are closed in Free roam, you can't jump over one-foot barriers, etc.  So if a city that large sacrifices accessiblity, interactivity and gameplay, then I guess it's not entirely worth it.

5)  I think R* could do a better job of making the next city more realisticly scaled without sacrificing any gameplay though.  For example, TG's London has some very complex road systems that make it really fun to just drive around the city.  I think R* could implement things like this along side the unique jump and other gameplay opportunities.  VC may have been more than 2x the size of LC, but it feels more like a giant playground than a city to me, but I can't complain too much.

i thought the getaway was good.  the missions and stuff werent that good but the driving was unbelievable.  true that it sucked majorly without looking side to side or behind u.  but i thought the driving in TG was better than VC.  i hope they sort of mix those games together in the next one.  put more of the driving into VC but keep everything else for VC.  the size of TG was also good.

Oh dear. I prefered the shooting to the driving by a long shot. I mean earlier games on the PS had better driving physics and engines. VC driving is way better.
