I agree, I've always headcanoned that Claude does have a voice it's just that he seldom ever uses it (kinda like the 'Playa' in Saints Row 1). He's more of an "actions speak louder than words" kinda guy and I think he gains a reputation for it as the payphone callers are all expecting him to answer their calls without needing to say anything. 

 

I never noticed the green texts but I think you're right, I'm gonna assume that it's Claude's inner thoughts. He may not talk much on the outside but he probably thinks to himself all the time.

 

Of course, we're all aware that this is a video game and that Claude is just a fictional character. But the whole point of these forums is for us fans of the series to discuss and debate about these things, even if it's mundane or pointless to do so.

Thank you for bringing this topic back to life, people. I'm really pleased with that. I almost had forgotten about this topic. Oh, and I found a new green text that could be Claude's thoughts or words. In mission "Kingdom Come", when the suicide guys appear, the green text says "Spanked-up madmen!". For me, this words come from Claude. Is hard to notice this detail in the spanish version, since it was translated as "Te hemos pillado, necio" ("we've caught you, fool"), so it seems that they are words from the suicide bombers, but I stick to the original text and not to bad translations.

I think all mission texts in GTA 3 are probably Claude thinking to himself.

Also Claude could perhaps be mute due to some sort of psychological trauma or physical problem (lack of tongue perhaps?)

Unless his thoughts are in fact messages sent by the Matrix through the Godhead. ^_^
