Vehicle aesthetics

  1. 1. How do you want the vehicles in the next game ? Keep in mind that this wont mean the vehicles will look very different, the stallion will still look like a 442

So, everytime rockstar made a move from a generation of console to other we have seen a completely reconstruction of the entire vehicle pallete, which is something fundamental i agree, but with GTA V they havent really done anything to their vehicles when changed the generation, they are the same, and is visible that some of the cars brought from the PS3/360 have very crappy textures and kinda visible places. We have seen what they can do when they put effort to create a model in the Lowriders and more recently in cars like the Autarch or XXR.

What i am curious to see is that if they are going to recreate all the vehicles from the zero in the next game or will just take the ones we have now and throw them on it. Although the current number of polygons is reasonable, i think we have a lot of ground ground to improve, add better textures to the under part, make engine bays that you can see the ground under them, add new interiors without bad dimensioned seats, new wheels that have actual holes instead of circles painted in black, and mainly improve the hitbox to have less clipping through surfaces.

What is your oppinion ? Do you think the vehicles should be recreated of just upgraded ?

I like the feeling of some sort of 'evolution'/'succession' to my cars. And I am also very nostalgia-prone person, so upgrading all the way.

I think the rockstar guys are capable of editing the current vehicles to look more polished too, but, what level of upgrade would make you feel satisfied ?

I'd like upgrading the aesthetics of existing vehicles, such as making more varied interiors and giving them more customization,I wouldn't like if they made a completely different vehicle with existing vehicle's name. For example,a Stallion should be the same car if the setting is in the 70s or the present,as long as the game is still set in the same universe as GTA 4 and 5.As for different generations of the same vehicle, they can just add Classic to the older one, like they already do in GTA Online (or if the setting is in the past, such as the 90s,they can just rename Jester Classic into Jester and Infernus Classic into Infernus, because back then those versions were modern).

As long as the old design is still recognizable.

Vehicles should be updated. Read below for reasons why I think so.

  1. What's bugging me in vehicles from GTA V the most is that one interior is shared between like 5-8 vehicles. It was understandable on the PS3/Xbox 360 version of the game, as there was no first person mode and the vehicles' quality had to be kept the same as in GTA IV due to console limitations, but with introducing the first person camera, instead of remastering the interiors that vehicles had in the old-gen version of GTA V, they should've made new, unique ones for each vehicle (or, at least, for most of them).
  2. Another thing I find bad about reusing interiors is not sharing them correctly. The Dominator (original one, not GTX) and the Gauntlet are the best examples, as they are based on cars from the 2000's while they use that "70's muscle car" type interior, which makes them feel like replicas based on old vehicles rather than proper modern muscle cars.
  3. Outside of the interior thing, I miss fuel tanks from GTA San Andreas. I think this feature should've become a standard for most of vehicles since SA, as it makes vehicles feel like they run on fuel (or electric power), not air.
  4. I've seen a very cool mod for GTA V (which, sadly, is no longer developed) and it made me think "Why didn't Rockstar implement working wipers in GTA V?" I mean, with technology they had in 2014 (when the current-gen version of GTA V was released), just like with interiors, Rockstar had a perfect occasion to improve their vehicles and sh*t.
  5. "Custom" variants are pointless in GTA V. For example, instead of making the Majestic Custom or the Chino Custom, it would make more sense if Rockstar updated the stock variants with new parts and sh*t. Look at the "After Hours" update. Several cars (like the Prairie or the Futo) have got new parts and liveries, instead of getting their "Custom" variants.
  6. I dunno if it's really an "aesthetic" thing, but in the next GTA suffixes like "Classic"/"Retro" should be gone. I mean, while Rockstar introduced the 2nd generation of Cavalcade, their didn't change the 1st gen's name to "Cavalcade Classic". Same story with the Buffalo S, which original name was just "Buffalo". The TBoGT/EFLC version wasn't renamed to "Buffalo Classic" or w/e.

So, i almost completely agree wirh you. The interior question also makes me mad. I try the maximum to avoid having two vehicles with the same interior but sometimes is impossible. We can see they are improving in this aspect, as we have cars with completely unique interiors added lately, like the GT500 and the Stafford, but still there is a huge fail on this part. I feel like why they dont design the car inside and outside instead of making in "two parts". About the dominator, is simply disgusting, that muscle interior is so badly done.

The custom models i dont care about, like they could have added the conversion without changing the name but still.

About classic /retro i also think they should be gone. We dont call the old vanquish vanquish retro or something like that or even worse 911 retro. We have some indicators however, the elegy RH8 indicates that is the 8th generation so the elegy retro would be the RH5 or 6. We could have the pfister comet 997 or something similar.

I feel like in most vehicles this would work but we have some ones that are pretty out of the style. For example, the infernus (regular) i feel like it doesnt fit anymore in the world of gta V, the curves and rear design specially, makes clear that came from other game. The entity XF needs desperately a headlight and rear texture updates, the ones used are simply not viable anymore. And we also have the useless vehicles that doesnt belong in the universe but still there, like the Revolter, Taipan, Tezeract, X80, Tyrant (this one specially because the size ) and some others.

I would like

~Offset/camber/damper/suspension adjustment

~Crazy customization possibility. Shakotan/boso cars would be a dream in GTA VI.

~Custom "tuner" shops kind of like the crew - pay a couple grand to have like a preset tune on your car; eg track, drift, grip, drag. etc

~Realism in the interior  (It bothers me how even if a car you drive appear to be a 5spd - your character never shifts

Wheels as well, the wheel looks so jiggly in the avatars hand - I wish the wheel moved according to your hand positions ingame. :/

The customization i dont care much. I prefer better crash deformation instead of more mods, but i think almost no one agrees with me in this point.

Did you mean redesign? Because remodeling is just ought to happen any way.

I want cars (or the vehicles) to have some sort of their proper lineage across the universe. Worst example at the moment is Manana.

In GTA3, VC, SA, GTAAdvance, VCS it's a boxy two-door sedan. And for some reason always looks dirty.

In LCS it's a Japanese two-door sport, similar to Miata.

In IV, CTS, and V, it's a lowrider.

I'm alright with something like Infernus has, although it's a bit inconsistent.

LC, LCS XJ220

VC, VCS Lamborghini Countach

SA NSX

But in IV and V suddenly it has hard edges again due to adopting Murcielago. Still, alright. Whatever.

What I'm not okay with is calling VC/VCS Infernus as Torero, GTA3/LCS as Penetrator, and VC/VCS Cheetah as Infernus Classic.... Really? This is absolutely confused.

It should have been named like:

- Torero > Infernus Classic

- Penetrator > Infernus '98

- Infernus Classic > Torero / or Cheetah '90 if the rear light design changed

I think Manana is generally the worst example for, like, anything. Except for being an excellent example of a crappy car.

Although maybe it was improved in LCS/HD era, don't recall seeing/recognizing it there.

It would be so confusing, they are completely different cars with the same name and made by other brands. Like the ocelot infernus pegassi infernus grotti infernus

When I made that suggestion, the idea of the name change obviously comes with Pegassi as the manufacturer of Infernus.

Sorry to say that, but the VC/VCS Cheetah is the Cheetah Classic (Ferrari Testarossa), not the Infernus Classic (Lamborghini Diablo).

Also, the Penetrator wouldn't make sense as the Infernus '98, as it's manufactured by Ocelot rather than Pegassi.

PS: 3D universe =/= HD universe

The infernus cheetah and penetrator nowadays i think are just perfect in terms of branding

They really need to re-calibrate the vehicle models to make them consistent in scale, proportions, and level of detail.  The models they have now are all over the place, and look like they came from several different games.

Well, I think some of the cars in V came from IV, so they kinda did...

I want a mixture of both some new cars while also putting old cars into the mix but most important make cars more detailed and give us more cutomization options for each vehicles and more races/ things to do with the vehicles in single player.

The only thing that really maters is quality of them being made or remade, because currently in V it feels pretty weird, when one vehicle done so in detail and other so-so.

Is very random, if you take the schlagen gt and the surano, which are sports cars from the same brand, the level of detail is night and day. But even comparing with some recent vehicles like the tyrant, some are so badly done and rushed.

Anyway when game makes from the scratch, there some conceptual direction behind it, unfortunately if Rockstar will continue to hire freelance and outsiders to do cars designs, it will end this way again.

Someone in Rockstar should really take care about controlling the quality of all vehicles in game to them being equal to inner worlds proportions and levels of details. I'm sure at launch everything will be fine as usual, but DLC content gonna suffer badly if not make a significant change into development of vehicles. It's a shame what happened with Jester Classic, and more shame that only people who saved this project, were modders players who have had early access to the model and started to rebel with rest of the crowd. Credit and authority for me to Rockstar has been lost this day, and guess, a lot of people noticed it too.
