The only reason I play the game is to collect...the moment I’m done with that then the game is over for me.

ive got two profiles with two characters on each so have been a newbie 4 times so been there done that and got the t shirt.

the only vehicles I’m missing across those 4 characters are the B11 and Scramjet and I’m just waiting till they go on sale as they’re ridiculously priced.

i also own all clothing and masks.

TL;DR
I'm selling off my fancy new stuff, like flying vehicles and armoured cars, to go back to the original set I had back in the 2014 days of GTAO.
What is your thought on the idea of doing something like this for yourself (not that you should, just curious about the idea of it)?
Would you be too full of regret or seller's remorse?
Is it something you've already done and have insight to?
Do you think it's a stupid idea or something that, for the right people, would enhance their game and make the experience more entertaining?

As always, curious to hear from you if you're interested. Hope all is well! Cheers! :)

I don't know. I started playing in July 2017, I haven't experienced a lot of gameplay before, bcs I was in middle of bunker "madness". After more than a year, I accomplished 90% of my goals (those 10% left, are mostly a-must-do-it-with-others, like getting all CM on DDH).

I liked the game more before. Right now, I have two character, with all properites, business, stuff that I wanted to own/try... And it's boring or time wasting for nothing. I love the Business Battles, but... today e.g. I spent like an hour for BB to appear. I didn't wanted to do any more IE, client jobs, vip work.. Because they are all the same. And with no goals to achieve, game seems stupid. I am not interested in killing other people, destroying their efforts to earn money. I am helping people sometimes, but that generious feeling is gone when someone gets op vans and dont want to quit :D

With goals in this game, game is fun. I don't regret time invested/wasted in this game, because it was fun. But doing it all over again... No way. I am thinking on buying FIFA again, and play FUT (altough it made me mad, and got the worst out of me - the only game mode that really made me mad to the point where I wanted to smash everything).

If you really wanna start something over, with casual gameplay, from "0"... And really don't wanna play another game - maybe buy a new gta 5 account ? It's only like 15 euros, you could start meeting new friends, doing many things different (not wasting money on obsolete stuff, pegasus etc etc)... Like you are wise now, and do some "road to glory" hahaha XD (e.g. i really regret getting any melee weapon now when we have stone hatchet with special ability... but thats something I never knew it will come out :D ).

Also, getting out the Rhino in 2018... I am afraid that mk2 will just destroy you over and over again.

Try maybe using new and old stuff together, or make old stuff usefull - e.g. titan to transfer 4 bikes from city to desert... or Use ramp buggy and opressor mk2 for "Ramped up" vip work...

Buy someone a gta account, and play with him/her, help in earning money. Someone from your RL ofc.

I didn’t spend 5 years collecting cars I like and modding them/creating custom colors just to sell them all.

Also, when I actually end up hopping online, I always grab something different to drive. I don’t need to sell everything to take out cars that aren’t in the top 10% bracket.

I couldn't do it...

All my cars are modded, even with a gun to my head I wouldn't sell anything. Death before delete.

Not a chance, sorry. I still can't play a session without hoping in many regulars I love. I've all Supers, including Benny's. All sports, Inc. Benny's and race variants. And all muscle cars, Inc. race variants, but only 1 lowrider atm. To list the regulars would take too long, lol.

Until a new GTA comes, and even beyond possibly depending on what comes of it (setting/timeline), I'll never pass up the chance to coast about in one of my rides here in LS, rain or shine.

Just talking cars here, not so much a bike guy, though don't mind them. But after close to 12k miles flying, I'd not be bothered if my hanger blew up, lol. (Like the facility toys and few weaponised vehicles, all pap to fill a gap). I'm not flying anymore than I have to, and even then  I'll need convincing, lol. (I've no need to sell 'em, but I'll never grind either. Soon sell one or all for more cars/garages, no doubt about it).

I'd sooner drive my Hot Rod, Franken Strange, a Dominator, my Nero, or her beast of a sister, slinging a gang van even. Gah, too many, I could go on and on. ;)

I hope many cars here become franchise mainstays thats got sure.

* Quick edit. Like others, I've a 2nd account that spends far less money, or time looking to, lol.

Smooth Longsack

I've started new characters five times.  It always makes the game feel fresh and more exciting. Selling everything off is something i haven't considered but each new character survives with less content than the previous. A bare bones approach is fairly refreshing but i soon needed various tools to accomplish things to keep my guys/gals competitive.  Stockpiling a vast fleet and weapons was all but an eventuality.

It's been a long while since I've been in the race scene and that's all that may be in my future. I have thousands and thousands of hours invested in this game and am retired from most of the things i used to find enjoyable. Probably the most fun I've had with a scratch character was going for an immense k/d with a level one. I don't recall exactly the number but i had just cleared 1000 when i took my second death. This guy was bare bones. Had a bahti, a Pacific coast highway garage, a rusty rebel, picked up guns, bought a marksman and bought some apartment. There's so much potential starting anew. Can't wait for VI.

I would never do this on my main character, I'm sure I would regret later. I tried to do this on my sec. character, I promised I wouldn't buy any business, any expensive car or apartment, and guess what? I couldn't resist and ended up buying everything again.

But you are right, after playing the game for this many years, you kinda get bored and wants something new and fresh, and for that, I created another account, which has nothing expensive or even any business. I play there once in a while, when I'm feeling tedious with my main account. It's a refreshing experience, for sure.

It would be a hell of a lot easier to downgrade one property to a small apartment and hide all your business icons. When it all got a bit much recently, I bought a 6-car and kept only one daily driver in there.

LOL!! Thanks hei3enberg! However, it's actually just the opposite for me – I have almost NO time on my hands anymore.

You know, work, family, house, etc. For me it comes down to spending quality time actually playing the game I love (and no, there is no other game I want to play or have time to play), and when I have that hour or two every couple of days to sit with GTAO, I want it to be meaningful entertainment, not just flying around and locking onto other players without even thinking about it

It may sound bizarre, but I won't tell anyone how to play their game, however, I may say that it's probably time not to play at all. The bad state of GTAO for old-times is a direct consequence of out-of-place updates like Gunrunning so I do believe depriving yourself of the new meaningless experience while simultaneously being integrated in the public sessions won't add much meaning to the gameplay. It may look like that, but the fact that you're doing it by itself screams it's time to get some rest from the game. With Online it's a classical escalation of commitment and it may feels like other games will require a lot of time too, but that's not true. I almost stopped playing Online and got back to Forza Horizon 3 on PC, while waiting for Horizon 4 and never felt better. But like I said, I won't tell you how to play the game. If you want to dump your toys while being decimated by 15 yos flying around, why the hell not.

I usually do a fair amount of consideration before buying anything, whether it be placement/location or how it fits into the grander scheme of things, so I’m left with few purchases that I actually regret.

I’ve also sold cars in the past only to buy them back again much later (back when I sold cars in order to afford new stuff). But since money is no longer a problem and I’ve got an awful lot of garage space these days, I’ve instead become a collector.

I like being able to spawn all my vehicles, though I rarely use most of them. A couple nights ago a friend bought the F620 and I brought out mine and I realized how nice it looks (I’ve also put crew colors on almost all my rides). A bit later I called for my convertible Sentinel and we drove around for a bit and it was great to use middle-range cars for once.

So no, I like things the way they are and I’ll probably play less GTAO going forward, so having it all there + a nice retirement fund to last me through coming updates is perfect for me. :)

One of my favourite cars from story mode. Michael stole one on one mission, and Franklin literally races the whole map in an other with it, lol. Good times. (Always good for those Simeone sales too).

@fw3 I'm sure I read you're yet to hit story mode on this game. I couldn't recommend a better day to have a pop, lol. 5 years old now, and the current gen version is just teaming with life if you like immersing, wildlife too...

I'm gonna be remembering that 2013 anticipation tonight, lol.

After making so much cash via NC I switched to my second character.  Had an akuma, an elegy, an f620 and a duke of death to start with, two apartments and a garage.  It is kind of nostalgic.  I just completed fleeca and got a kuruma, which is kind of essential for certain tasks.

This is true, KWF1981 – I still have not played Story Mode. I think I got as far as where Michael and Franklin have to chase after Jimmy on the highway to get Michael's boat back. Haven't gone beyond that yet.

It's actually a really good idea. I honestly forget all about Story Mode because GTAO is so much fun.

But, I have to say, as of last night, the only cars I have left are the Autarch and the GB200, both of which I'll keep exclusively for racing.

I have begin picking up cars from each class off the street and will populate my garage(s) with them. Should be interesting.
Except, I cannot – for the life of me – find a Blista Compact ANYwhere! lol!

Lastly, too, it's amazing how many people come after you from above when you're just minding your business and tooling around.
Never noticed that so much as now with all the flying cars and such. :/

Cheers!

mmm noo i cant do that...

while i own stuff that i never use, i'd say 90% of my vehicles mean something to me, be it my first car, my first super, my first duped car, sp2mp, the bike i used during my elite challenges, etc etc etc

pegasus on the other hand, i'd sell all but 4-5 vehicles from that list.

to summarize, you are having a mid-life crisis 🤣

Like I said, I want to keep my character and my stats/level, but I guess I want to play as clean as I did back when I started. I may even start dragging out the old Rhino Tank once in a while, just for giggles. I'm sure that most of the late-comer 15-year old CEOs in GTAO have never even called Pegasus, before. lol!

Anyhow, if you have any extra time you'd like to share, I'd be happy to have it! lol! Cheers! :)

This is pretty much me nowadays, times change for me also, work is like a buzzing fly that comes every hour, but i still won't sell all my assets online in case i need them back someday 😂

Anytime I get over 2 million I buy a car for my collection, put it in a garage and never see it again. I would be happy if all I had was a nightshark, pyro, and Akula. That being said, no I can't sell everything im still collecting.

lol! I spent – literally, years – collecting different cars, building different garage collections, etc. And I had a great time doing it.

Now, I'm just kind of in that reverse mode, where I'm deconstructing my collections and cashing in the bonds from them.

I just sold off a garage full of T20s and made a nice chunk of change from that, while selling off the Deluxo and Stromberg yielded the most, so far.
I've reclaimed about $12 million so far in sales, which I'm happy to apply to other cars which will only cost a fraction of the fancier ones.

My newest purchase last night was an Obey Rocoto. It's just fun to tool around in like a family man whose family is at the mall!

Also, I've got this ridiculous garage of Romero Hearses that I've been hanging onto. Each one is worth about $8,000, so the only pain will be in selling them one by one. lol!

I'm actually REALLY enjoying this newfound style of gameplay. Tonight, I'm going looking for a Sandking. I haven't had one in two years! :)

One of my favorite "old school" things to do is push dumpsters into positions I can use to jump from to get to obscure locations. Still a ton of fun!

I've done something like this, but not sold all the cars in my garages. I kept 3 and now have 6 of them again, not counting those who can't be sold. Got me good cashback, but also took a long while to get everything sold.

To be honest, I'm not missing using any of them.

Then, after AH launched, I got the stupid idea to transfer all my cash to character #2. Started making money with character #1 again and after a week deleted character #2 with all the dosh on him.

Though stupid, it did give my grinds new meaning and I'm already sitting on a comfortable sum of cash again.

It's a game and all that stuff is fun to play with. I know it is because I own almost everything. I think I do own everything cool lol.

If they made us pay taxes on our stuff this would make sense but I'm just not getting it. I like to play the game and I like all the virtual toys. I want more.

You can't sell business fronts, not even some vehicles like the Terrorbyte or even the Avenger. Once you bought them, they can't be sold at all, not unless a new character is created. I certainly wouldn't sell my toys except certain ones that are not eye-catching for me. Either way, I don't want to sell everything I have, though business fronts, offices, nightclubs, bunkers and hangars can't be sold at all anyway.

No dice.

(been through it with a second character already, and it was fun and all... now both characters are rolling deep in all the fun stuff, one very much more so in terms of all the garages full of primo sports cars and supers and coupes and sedans...)

I definitely do like to break out the Carbonizzaire (my first ride) from time to time, and take her for a little spin, and the old Hakachou sometimes, but i have earned these OP monstrocities, and i'm getting my $$$'s worth.

more power to you, though.

If it were to happen, then yeah. But then you'll end up landing yourself in hot water because R* refuses to let you go back old school by selling businesses, properties and such. You know how they are. :r*:

I sold all I could about 2 years ago. Now I buy things just to stop the phone calls. All I have at my disposal is a BF400, savage, akula and a hunter.
I'm not much for fighting honestly.
But if you have a bounty you better believe I will travel the whole length of the map to get it.

I've been doing much the same on my 2nd account, there's a thread in the vehicles section that lists so many NPC modded cars too that I'm slowly picking up a good lil' collection from. (Sorry, I can't link the page).

So many muscle cars for free if we go on an old school pinch, lol. And if you can drive them comfortably, couple are still quick too.

I do believe we can't steal a Blista Compact. Though as a returning player I'm not 100% sure. Just I read many can't keep the Dukes if they see one anymore too. (Unless it was just non-returnees that can't steal one).

My poor Sabre Turbo always gets bounced about by the big boys on jobs/heists and such, but beating the odd super to the checkpoints is always a nice feeling, lol. (Funny how they 'weren't racing' when they were very much until they lost out or went for an unexpected swim, lol).

My Rat-loader gets a real kick-in though, such a hard drive with a numpty sticking to my bumpers. :(

Also, with story mode. I'd not worry too much about the story if its not too appealing, nothing worse than just doing it because, lol. And totally understand just how appealing or varied online is, and how much more content of course, lol. Maybe just plod about or do the odd collectibles mission like spaceship parts and go for a long-ass sightseer, lol. To see many hotspots teaming with wildlife is just great to see in current gen versions.

If you can get to Trevor and a couple of missions in, Cletus will show you hunting too. So badly wanted that online here, but now RDR2 is close, I'm sure that'll be a huge draw for me and many. Still play the old one and hunting is just a go-to in the West there (Bit of poker too, lol). I cannot wait for that first adventure into a new R* world, not long now. :)

but i also recently sold a bunch of cars and bikes - none of which were duped or anything, i just wanted to whittle down the collection a good deal.

are you saying doing this might get a person flagged and possibly punished?  O.o

that said, i suppose i too am starting fresh with a minimal collection :V

(grinding back to level 133 is gonna suuuuuuck)
