General Description

The Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game is a Forum-Based Relay Game for the PC Version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Players take it in turns to complete Grand Theft Auto IV "from Zero to Hero", starting a new Save File at the very beginning of the game and taking it all the way through to 100% Completion.

Anyone is allowed to join in and participate in the Chain Game, whether you are completely new to the Chain Game or are an existing player. Take a look through the 'Quick Start Guide' before you take your first turn, and then feel free to jump straight into the action! The Quick Start Guide will give you an overview of how the Chain Game works and will outline several important Chain Game Rules that must be followed during your turn.

The Chain Game Rules have been designed so that the game is played fairly and can progress smoothly, with all players being able to have an enjoyable experience of contributing to the Chain Game Goal, which is the creation of a 100% Save File. It is strongly advised that the full detailed set of 'Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game Rules' are read by all players at least once to ensure that the game can progress smoothly and all players have an enjoyable experience playing.

Quick Start Guide

This Quick Start Guide is designed to familiarise you with the rules of the Chain Game so that you can get right into the action and take your first turn!

Take a Turn
Start a Chain Game Turn by making a post in this Chain Game Round Thread to allow all players of the game to know you are taking a turn, so that they do not take one themselves. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be as creative as you choose, as long as you make it clear you're taking one!

Download the Save File
A link to the Save File will be in the previous Chain Game Turn once completed.

Due to Games For Windows Live Restrictions, players of the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game are required to use the XLiveLess Modification to be able to load Save Files used throughout the round, and to make their Save Files compatible with the games owned by other players. If you are using Patch 1.0.8.0, a custom version of the XLiveLess Modification can be downloaded here, as the last released version in the official thread will not allow you to load save files made on certain versions of the game.

Make Progress
The Time Limit to complete your Chain Game Turn is Three Hours. During this time, you are allowed to complete up to one Story Mission or Assassination, one Random Encounter and as many Side Activities as you wish.

You are not allowed to get Busted or Wasted, Fail a Mission, Random Encounter, Race, or add to the "Missions Failed" counter. If this happens, you must restart your turn or reload from the last valid save if you had saved earlier in your turn.
You are also not allowed to use any Cheats or Modifications during the duration of your turn and should play on an unmodified version of the game.

Saving and Uploading a Save File that is found to be breaking the Chain Game Rules will result in your turn being invalidated and any progress made during the turn will effectively be reverted to the previous Valid Turn.

Save and Upload
Complete your turn by saving the game and uploading the Save File. GTASnP.com is the preferred upload service for your Save File but you may use any file sharing website that grants free download access without the need for registration.

Edit Your Post
When you've uploaded your Save File, press the 'Edit' Button in the lower right corner of the post and use the Posting Format found below, or copied directly from the 'Chain Game' section of the GTASnP.com Page of your Save File. You can alter this format to include colors or fonts of your choice, but all posts are required to have full details of all you have completed, the overall completion percentage and a link to the Save File.

Posting Format

Completed Chain Game Turns are required to include information of what has been completed during the turn, the overall game completion percentage at the end and a link to the Save File for the next player to be able to download.

The following is a template of the recommended Posting Format that is used in your turn:

[b]Mission:[/b]
[b]Link:[/b]
[b]Completion:[/b]
[b]Notes:[/b]

You can copy and paste this template into your post when editing at the end of your turn, fully completing it to include all of the relevant information using the guidance below. You may customise the Posting Format to include Fonts and Colors of your choice and be as creative as you wish, but it is important that no information is missed out as this may cause confusion for other players.

Mission
The Mission Field should include the title of any Mission you have completed, and it is advised to also include the title of any Side Activities that have been completed. If you are using a translator or language option in the game which changes the Save File Title, it is recommended that you write the English Title in your post so that other players can understand what has been completed.

Link
The Link Field should include a URL to the uploaded Save File from your turn. You can use any text you wish as long as there is a working link on the text added by the Post Editor or using BBCode.

Completion
The Overall Game Completion Percentage should be noted here either taken directly from the 'Stats' Menu in the game or through the page of your Save File on GTASnP.com. This information is used for the Chain Game Statistics at the end of the round.

Notes
This is an Optional Field that may be included in your post to detail any additional information about your turn. You should use this area if you have picked up any collectibles, detailing how many you have collected and which they were, and also for the Times and Scores of any Missions or Side Activities you have completed which can be found in the 'Stats' Menu in game.

Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game Rules

The Chain Game Rules are designed to keep the game played fairly, so that all players are having an enjoyable experience and the game is making progress. All players should take the time to familiarise themselves with the rules and practices of the Chain Game to ensure that all rounds of the game can progress smoothly.

General Rules

The Chain Game is open for participation to any registered member of GTAForums.com. All Chain Game Players are required to follow the General Rules at all times during their participation in the Chain Game.

Grand Theft Auto IV Game Version
All players of the Chain Game will need to own Grand Theft Auto IV to be able to participate. This round of the Chain Game is being played on the PC Version of Grand Theft Auto IV. All versions of Grand Theft Auto IV for PC are compatible with the Save File that is used in this Chain Game, including the Retail DVD Version and Steam Version, but players of the Chain Game will be required to install XLiveLess in order to load the Save File.

Games for Windows Live Restrictions
The PC Version of Grand Theft Auto IV uses Games For Windows Live which restricts players of the game to only being able to load Save Files they've created themselves. This means that an unmodified version of Grand Theft Auto IV would not allow you to be able to load any Save File that was created or downloaded elsewhere. Due to these restrictions, players of the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game are required to use the XLiveLess Modification to be able to load Save Files used throughout the round, and to make their Save Files compatible with the games owned by other players. If you are using Patch 1.0.8.0, a custom version of the XLiveLess Modification can be downloaded here, as the last released version in the official thread will not allow you to load save files made on certain versions of the game.

To install XLiveLess, unpack the downloaded file and move the xlive.dll file to your Grand Theft Auto IV Directory.

Important Information
XLiveLess comes with additional functionality and changes several features of the game, the most important of which are listed below. For a full list of additions and changes refer to the XLiveLess Thread.

  • All Online Functionality is disabled while the modification is installed to prevent cheating in Multiplayer. Users who want to play some Online Multiplayer outside of Chain Game Turns can simply move the xlive.dll out of their directory and then move it back in when they're ready to take turns.
  • Save Files are now located at `%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames` instead of `%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames`. Any previous Save Files created before XLiveLess was installed will remain in the folder in AppData.
  • Saving over any Save File you have previously created before XLiveLess was installed while using XLiveLess will prevent the Save File from being loadable if XLiveLess is later removed from your Grand Theft Auto IV Directory.

Thanks to listener for creating the XLiveLess Modification and Parik for providing an updated version of the modification to allow support for all game versions.

The Respect Rule
Respect should be shown to all players of the Chain Game, irrespective of their age, gender, political views, nationality, sexuality or religious views. The Chain Game is played by members of all different backgrounds and this should be respected at all times. Harassment or other discriminatory behaviour is completely unacceptable and is a direct violation of the Chain Game and GTAForums Rules.

Players that make mistakes and accidentally violate Chain Game Rules during their turn, whether a new or existing player, should not mocked or treated unfairly by other players of the game. Remember that everyone was once new to the game and anyone can make honest mistakes.

Use of the Chain Game Round Thread
The Chain Game Round Thread should be used by players to call turns and participate in the game. It is important that the posts made in the thread are kept on topic and that there are no unnecessary comments and replies that are not turn posts. If you’d like to contribute to the Chain Game Community outside of taking turns, you can do so by posting in the Chain Game Lounge or any of the Chain Game Discussion Groups.

The Chain Game Lounge and Discussion Groups
If you'd like to converse with your fellow Chain Game Players, share something from your turns or ask questions about the Chain Game then we have several discussion platforms that we welcome you to join us on:

The Chain Game Lounge - The central discussion area for the Chain Game Players and GTAForums Members. You should use the Lounge for any off topic discussions and to ask questions about the game. The Lounge is also where you will find any important information about the game and Chain Game Announcements that will be posted by the Chain Game Staff.

Discord Server - The Chain Game Discord Server is open to any of the Chain Game Players and GTAForums Member for off topic discussion and general conversation. There will also be regular updates on when a Chain Game Announcement is posted or a new Chain Game Round is launched. The server is moderated by the Chain Game Staff and you are expected to follow the GTAForums Rules as well as use your GTAForums Username.

Steam Group - The Chain Game Steam Group is open for any Steam Users that have an interest in the game. You'll find some of the other players that use Steam and get updates on the latest Chain Game Rounds which will be posted in the groups discussion forum by the Chain Game Staff.

Twitter Page - The Chain Game Twitter Page provides regular updates on all of the latest Chain Game News, including when a new round of the game has been launched and when a new Chain Game Announcement has been posted.

Streaming
All players of the Chain Game are free to stream their Chain Game Turns and invite other players to watch them play by providing a link to the stream when they call a turn in the round. Streaming is not mandatory and players are free to choose whether or not they stream their turns.

Several Chain Game Players choose to stream their Chain Game Turns using services such as YouTube and through Steam's Broadcasting Feature. You are free to choose any platform to stream your turns, although we recommend that you choose one that allows anyone to view without the need for registration.

Taking a Turn

Start a Chain Game Turn by making a post in this Chain Game Round Thread to allow all players of the game to know you are taking a turn, so that they do not take one themselves. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be as creative as you choose, as long as you make it clear you're taking one!

You are not allowed to reserve turns in the Chain Game. Under no circumstances may you contact other players to state that you are planning on taking a turn and telling them not to take one themselves, and you may also not make a turn post in the thread while a turn is currently being taken so that you can take a turn when the current player has finished. In both of these cases, your turn will be made invalid and you may face further disciplinary action.

If two players make a post in the Chain Game Thread at the same time, both with the intention to take a turn, then the player who called their turn earlier is the one who takes the turn.

Wait Rules
Before you are able to take a turn in the Chain Game, you must ensure that at least one of the Wait Rules are no longer in effect. These Wait Rules keep the game fair by giving an opportunity for multiple players to take turns rather than allowing a sole player to complete a major percentage of the game themselves, taking away from the Team Aspect of the Chain Game.

The Two Turns Wait Rule: You may only take another Chain Game turn if two or more turns from other players have been completed since your last turn.

The Four Hours Wait Rule: If a four hour period passes between any two Chain Game Turns, the Two Turn Wait Rule is reset and any player may take a turn, even if they are the last player to have taken one. As the Wait Rules are reset for all players, if a player was to take a turn after four hours have passed since your last turn, you may take a turn after that player's turn as the Two Turn Wait Rule is no longer in effect on your previous turn.

Forfeited Turns do not count towards the Wait Rules and do not cancel their effect. If a player is waiting for two turns or four hours to pass before they can take another turn, this does not include the Forfeited Turn.

Time Limit
The Three Hours Time Limit: The time limit to complete a Chain Game Turn is three hours. This is the time between when a player calls their turn by making a post in the Round Topic, and the time when they edited their post with their completed turn Save File. If more than three hours pass during this period, then the turn will be declared Invalid and the Save File will be discarded.

If you have previously completed a Chain Game Turn and wish to include additional information about your turn at a later time, you will need to specify when your turn was originally completed to prevent the turn being marked as invalid. See 'Late Edit' for more information.

A Time Limit Extension may be granted by a member of Chain Game Staff if there is a valid reason that you are unable to complete your turn within the intended three hour period. Players who wish to have a Time Extension must contact a member of Chain Game Staff as soon as possible and be granted permission to exceed three hours during their turn, or their turn will be declared invalid.

Forfeiting
Any player that has called a turn is allowed to forfeit their turn at any stage if they find themselves unable to complete the intended turn. It is recommended that you only forfeit as a last resort if you are struggling and try to make some contribution towards the game, even if you can't make the kind of contribution you wanted to.

To forfeit a turn, simply edit the turn post and make mention that you wish to forfeit. All forfeited turns will be marked as invalid in the Chain Game Player List, including forfeited turn posts that have been removed from the round topics by members of the GTAForums Staff Team.

Forfeited Turns do not count towards the Wait Rules and do not cancel their effect. If a player is waiting for two turns or four hours to pass before they can take another turn, this does not include the Forfeited Turn.

Downloading the Save File

Once you have made a post in the Chain Game Round Thread to state that you are taking a turn, download the Save File that has been linked in the post of the last valid turn. This is likely to be the latest post in the Round Thread at the time of you making your post.

The downloaded Save File should then stored in the 'savegames' folder for the game to be able to locate the file ready for loading. This folder is usually found in `%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames` but users of XLiveLess will find it at `%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames`. The directory may differ on different Operating Systems.

If you feel that the link in the post is from a suspicious source, then you should not follow the link to the website linked and instead report this to a member of the Chain Game Staff who will investigate the matter further.

Due to Games For Windows Live Restrictions, players of the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game are required to use the XLiveLess Modification to be able to load Save Files used throughout the round, and to make their Save Files compatible with the games owned by other players.

You can read more information about the XLiveLess Modification, which version you may require and how to install in the  'Games For Windows Live Restrictions' post in the Chain Game Lounge.

Making Progress

During your turn, there are many ways that you will be able to make progress towards the Chain Game Goal of 100% Completion of Grand Theft Auto IV. You are allowed to complete up to one Story Mission or Assassination, one Random Encounter and as many Side Activities as you wish. The Time Limit to complete your Chain Game Turn is Three Hours, which is plenty of time to sit back, relax and have some fun!

This section covers the most important information that you should keep in mind when taking your turn, and detailed information on what can and can't be done in the duration of your turn. It's strongly recommended that you read and understand this section fully before you take your turn so that you do not risk your turn being invalid.

Important Information
No Busts or Wastes: You are not allowed to get Busted or Wasted during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. Save Files that have been saved with a positive Busted or Wasted Statistic will not be accepted and the offending turn will be made invalid.

No Failure: You are not allowed to fail a Mission, Random Encounter, Race, or add to the "Missions Failed" counter, during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. This specifically refers to all Story Missions, The Fixer's Assassinations, Brucie's Races and any other Mission or Side Activity that adds to the "Missions Failed" counter. If a player fails any of these as a result of their own bad luck or through getting Busted or Wasted, then they must either restart or forfeit their turn.

If you are collecting a Special Vehicle that requires a Mission Failure, then you will be allowed to fail the mission, but it must be mentioned in your turn post that you collected the Special Vehicle. Attempting to collect a Special Vehicle and being unsuccessful, but still failing the mission the Special Vehicle is from, is not allowed.

Mission Failure will be accepted only if you are collecting a Special Vehicle or you have been given permission by the Chain Game Chief to upload your Save File. Any other turn that is found to have a Failure Statistic will be declared invalid.

No Cheats or Modifications: You are not allowed to use any Cheats, Trainers, Modifications or Scripts during the completion of your Chain Game Turn. It is strongly recommended that you only participate in the Chain Game on a completely unmodified installation of Grand Theft Auto IV, even if you have disabled Modifications or Scripts from running during your turn.

XLiveLess is the only exception to this rule as it is required for all players to have installed in order for them to be able to participate in the Chain Game. This is a modification that allows users to be able to load any Save File of Grand Theft Auto IV created by any user and comes in the form of a 'xlive.dll' file that is placed in the user's game directory.

We do not expect the players of the Chain Game to have to resort to the use of Cheats in order to complete Missions or Side Activities, and do not expect players to use Cheats as part of having fun during their turn. Some Cheats and Modifications have been known to have a long lasting affect on Save Files and we do wish to spoil the fun of the Chain Game for the players by having Save Files that are not working as they are intended to.

Any turn that is found to be using Cheats or Modifications other than XLiveLess will be declared invalid and any player found repeatedly breaking this rule face further disciplinary action.

Missions
The One Named Mission Rule: You are only allowed to complete One Named Mission during the completion of your Chain Game Turn, or you are free not to complete any if you decide that you do not want to. A 'Named Mission' is any Story Mission or Assassination that changes the Save File Name when you save at a Safehouse.

Examples of Named Missions include "Jamaican Heat", "Hostile Negotiation" and "Pest Control".

Exceptions to the One Named Mission Rule: The following missions in Grand Theft Auto IV are an exception to the One Named Mission Rule and are able to be completed in addition to any other Named Mission when taking a turn in the Chain Game:

Low Effort Missions

  • "Ransom"
  • "One Last Thing"
  • "Mr and Mrs Bellic"

These missions are considered to be "Low Effort" Missions due to their contents requiring very little time to complete, mostly consisting of cutscenes and a short task to complete such as driving to the cutscene location or taking a photo. Players are welcome to complete these missions in a turn along with a Named Mission and any other exceptions to the One Named Mission Rule.

Missions with Player Choice: There are several missions in Grand Theft Auto IV that give the player a choice of action that will later affect the outcome of the mission or overall game storyline. These include missions where you're ask to Kill or Spare a particular target, and a decision towards the end of the game where players can choose to either make a Deal or choose Revenge, affecting which final missions become available to the player.

In the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game, players are completely free to make the decision themselves, including the choice of Deal or Revenge towards the end of the game. It is suggested that players discuss with other Chain Game Players in the Chain Game Lounge or Discord Server for some of the decisions that have larger consequences but this is optional.

List of Missions with Player Choice
The following table contains Storyline Spoilers and shows a list of all missions in the game where the player has a decision to make, and what the consequences of either action are:

Mission Name Player Choice Consequence
First Date
Bleed Out
Date Michelle or Rescue Roman No Consequence
Ivan the Not So Terrible Kill or Spare Ivan Ivan will spawn as a Random Encounter later in the game if he is spared
Ruff Rider Kill or Spare Cherise Cherise will spawn as a Random Encounter later in the game if she is spared
Holland Nights Kill or Spare Clarence Clarence will spawn as a Random Encounter later in the game if he is spared
The Holland Play Kill Playboy X or Dwayne Kill Playboy X:
Niko will gain access to Playboy X's Apartment, a Claude Outfit and gain Dwayne as a friend is Playboy X is killed

Kill Dwayne:
Niko will get a $25,000 Reward if Dwayne is killed

Blood Brothers Kill Derrick or Francis Kill Derrick:
Niko will gain the ability to clear his Wanted Level by phoning Francis

Kill Francis:
No Reward
That Special Someone Kill or Spare Darko No Consequence
One Last Thing Deal or Revenge Deal:

Revenge:
$250,000 Reward and Kate Dies

Suggested Actions
While it is free for the player who is taking the turn to choose either outcome in the decisions that they may encounter throughout the game, the following table shows some suggestions for missions with particular outcomes where one may seem preferable to the other:

Mission Name Player Choice Suggested Action
Ivan the Not So Terrible Kill or Spare Ivan Spare Ivan - Ivan will later spawn as a Random Encounter if he is spared
Ruff Rider Kill or Spare Cherise Spare Cherise - Cherise will later spawn as a Random Encounter if she is spared
Holland Nights Kill or Spare Clarence Spare Clarence - Clarence will later spawn as a Random Encounter if he is spared
The Holland Play Kill Playboy X or Dwayne Kill Playboy X - Niko will gain access to Playboy X's Apartment, a Claude Outfit and Dwayne as a friend is Playboy X is killed

Phone Activated Missions: There are several missions in Grand Theft Auto IV that are activated by a Phone Call, with a contact in the game calling you following the completion of a certain mission or set of missions. Once the phone call is accepted, which can occur automatically, the mission will begin and the player will have to follow the mission objectives.

While it is preferable that a player completes just One Named Mission in their turn, all but one of the Phone Activated Missions are considered to be exceptions to the One Named Mission Rule and may be completed by the player if they receive the Phone Call before or after they have completed another Named Mission.

The exception to this rule is "A Revenger's Tragedy", the final mission in the game if 'Deal' is chosen during "One Last Thing". As it is the final mission of Grand Theft Auto IV and the previous mission is also an exemption to the One Named Mission Rule, it would be unfair for a single player to complete the entire Deal set of missions and complete the game themselves. As a result, "If the Price is Right" and "A Revenger's Tragedy" are not allowed to be completed within the same turn by any player.

It as also strongly suggested that a player only completes one Phone Activated Mission during their turn, despite the possibility that two Phone Activated Missions may appear in the same turn.

The following is a table which lists when to expect a Phone Call for a Phone Activated Mission:

Contact Previous Mission Phone Call Mission
Dimitri The Master and the Molotov Russian Revolution
Dimitri Russian Revolution Roman's Sorrow
Jeff Jeff's First Encounter Jeff's Second Encounter
Mallorie Have a Heart
Photoshoot
Hostile Negotiation
U.L Paper Dust Off Paper Trail
Ray No Way on the Subway Weekend at Florian's
Kate or Packie Blood Brothers Undertaker
U.L Paper Weekend at Florian's
Pest Control
Liquidize the Assets
That Special Someone

Two Part Missions: There are several "Two Part Missions" in Grand Theft Auto IV where the player is instructed to complete one set of actions, and then later have to complete a further set of actions as a follow on from the original actions they completed. In the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game, each part of the mission is treated seperately and each have their own rules:

  • The First Part is considered an Exception to the One Named Mission Rule and can be completed with either the Second Part or another Named Mission
  • The Second Part is considered a Named Mission and can't be completed with any other Named Mission during a turn, but can be completed with the First Part or another mission that is an exception to the One Named Mission Rule

Mission Scores and Times: Some Missions and Side Activies in Grand Theft Auto IV will store the scores or times that have been acheived by the player in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu or display the score or time on screen during the mission. Any player of the Grand Theft Auto IV Chain Game that completes a Mission or Side Activity where a score or time has been recorded must note down what they have achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post.

Side Activities
Car Thefts and Exotic Exports: You may complete as many of Stevie's Car Thefts and Brucie's Exotic Exports as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. There are 30 Car Thefts and 10 Exotic Exports to complete in Grand Theft Auto IV. The player will recieve information on the Car Thefts through text message by Stevie and information on Exotic Exports through email at eyefind.info by Brucie which can be accessed at an Internet Cafe or any other computer available in the game. Both Car Thefts and Exotic Exports are required for 100% Completion and must be completed at some point during the round.

Brucie's Races: You may complete as many of Brucie's Races as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. Brucie's Races unlock after the mission "No. 1" giving the player the option to call Brucie when not on a mission to request a race following which Brucie will send the player a race somewhere across Liberty City. The following are a list of races the player may receive when they phone Brucie:

  • Airport Run
  • Dukes Boulevard
  • Elevated
  • North Alderney
  • Road to Bohan
  • South Alderney
  • South Algonquin
  • South Broker
  • Star Junction

Players who complete any of Brucie's Races must note down the time that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete Brucie's Races either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Activities as you choose.

Dating and Friend Activities: You may go out on dates with any of the girlfriends or out on an activity with a friend as many times as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. You're also allowed to date any of the three optional girlfriends by contacting them using the in-game internet. There are a wide variety of activities that you can take your friends out on, and several friends in the game each with their own Like and Respect statistic. The following list oultines the friend activity requirements for 100% Completion and so must all be completed during a Chain Game Round:

Brucie Kibbutz

  • Boating
  • Bowling
  • Drinking
  • Eating
  • Heli Ride
  • Show
  • Strip Club
  • Unlock Heli Pickup Ability

Little Jacob

  • Darts
  • Drinking
  • Eating
  • Pool
  • Show
  • Strip Club
  • Unlock Gun Delivery Ability

Patrick McReary

  • Bowling
  • Darts
  • Drinking
  • Pool
  • Show
  • Strip Club
  • Unlock Car Bomb Ability

Players who go on dates or friend activities may wish to mention this in their Chain Game Turn Post. If you've unlocked a friend's special ability, reached a certain level with your girlfriend or reached maximum Like or Respect, then you must mention this in your Chain Game Turn Post.

Deliveries and Jobs: You may complete as many of Little Jacob's Drug Deliveries or Roman's Taxi Missions as you choose during your Chain Game Turn.

Roman's Taxi Missions first become available following the mission "Jamaican Heat" and can be activated when not on a mission by calling Roman and asking for a job. There are 10 total possible fares that can be completed during a Chain Game Round but none count towards the Chain Game Goal of 100% Completion and so are optional for the players to complete if they choose.

Little Jacob's Drug Deliveries become available following the mission "Shadow" and can be activated when not on a mission by calling Little Jacob and asking for a job. There are 10 Drug Deliveries to complete and are given in random order, but all are required for 100% Completion and so must be completed at some point during the round. The following list shows all Drug Delivery Missions that need to be completed:

  • Beachwood City
  • Cerveza Heights
  • East Island City
  • Meadow Hills
  • Meadows Park
  • Meadows Park Festival Towers
  • Outlook Park
  • Schottler
  • Steinway Apartment Tower
  • Willis Alley

Players who complete either a Drug Delivery or Taxi Fare must mention it in their Chain Game Turn Post and may wish to include additional information on any monetary rewards they have received.

Flying Rats and Stunt Jumps: You may kill as many of Liberty City's Pigeons and complete as many of the games Stunt Jumps as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. These can be completed either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Side Activities as you choose. In total there are 200 Flying Rats and 50 Stunt Jumps to complete for 100% Completion and information on their locations can be found online through one of the Useful Links towards the end of the Chain Game Opening Posts.

Players who take out Flying Rats or complete Stunt Jumps must note down how many pigeons or jumps they have completed and their locations in their Chain Game Turn Post. If you have killed the pigeons or completed the jumps in groups, such as all of the jumps on one island, you will be able to just mention that without specifying the locations of each individual jump as long as it is clear from your post what you mean. It's important that these are mentioned clearly so we do not result in a situation where at the end of the round there are missing Flying Rats or Stunt Jumps which are in locations not known to any player.

As an additional help with finding the 200 Flying Rats across Liberty City and keeping track of how many remain and their locations, thehambone has produced a Pigeon Locator Tool which loads a save file and displays all of the remaining pigeons in the game on a map of Liberty City and allows you to hover over each pigeon to receive an exact location. Feel free to download the Pigeon Locator on GTAGarage and use it to keep track of those Flying Rats during Chain Game Turns.

Free Roam Activities: You may complete as many Free Roam Activities as you wish during your Chain Game Turn. Free Roam Activities are the various activities that you can find across Liberty City from Bowling to visiting the Strip Club. The following list are activity requirements must be achieved during the Chain Game Round to contribute towards the overall goal of 100% Completion:

  • Beat QUB3D High Score
  • Win Bowling
  • Win Darts
  • Win Pool

Players who complete any Free Roam Activity, particularly if one of the activities required for 100% Completion, must note down the time that they achieved in their Chain Game Turn Post. This time can be found in the Stats Page of the Pause Menu. You can complete Free Roam Activities either on their own in a turn, or in combination with One Named Mission and/or as many Activities as you choose.

Most Wanted and Vigilante: You may complete as many of the Most Wanted Targets or Recent Crimes on the Police Computer as you wish during a Chain Game Turn. You can access the Police Computer when you are stationary in a Police Vehicle and not on another mission, with access to the LCPD Database, the Most Wanted Targets and any Recent Crimes that have been reported. It is required to complete 20 Recent Crimes for 100% Completion as well as all Most Wanted Targets:

  • Bert Reker
  • Fernando Tisdel
  • Freddy Paparo

  • Glenn Lushbaugh
  • Keenan Burdett
  • Marty Boldenow
  • Mervin Eskuchen
  • Noel Katsuda

  • Rodney McEniry
  • Sergi Szerbin

Players who complete any of the Most Wanted Targets or Recent Crimes must mention it in their Chain Game Turn Post and note the names of the Most Wanted Targets they have killed or the number of Recent Crimes that they have completed.

Random Encounters: You may only complete one Random Encounter during your Chain Game Turn. The following list shows all possible random encounters in Grand Theft Auto IV:

  • Brian's First Encounter
  • Brian's Second Encounter
  • Brian's Third Encounter
  • Badman
  • Cherise Glover
  • Clarence Little
  • Eddie Low's First Encounter
  • Eddie Low's Second Encounter
  • Gracie Ancelotti
  • Hossan Ramzy
  • Ileyna Faustin
  • Ivan Bytchkov
  • Jeff's First Encounter
  • Jeff's Second Encounter
  • Jeff's Third Encounter
  • Marnie Allen's First Encounter
  • Marnie Allen's Second Encounter
  • Mel
  • Pathos' First Encounter
  • Pathos' Second Encounter
  • Sara's First Encounter
  • Sara's Second Encounter

Cherise, Clarence and Ivan's Random Encounters are not required for 100% Completion and will only be unlocked if a particular player choice is made in certain missions of the game. As these are not required for 100% Completion, it is completely option whether or not the Chain Game Players complete them but it is suggested that they get completed if they have been unlocked.

Players who complete a Random Encounter must mention it in their Chain Game Turn. You should mention the characters name, which of their encounters you have completed, and any additional information you find to be relevant.

Gameplay Methods
There are no restrictions on how you choose to play the game or of any shortcuts you may choose to take during your turn, as long as they do not violate the Chain Game Rules. All players are free to purchase weapons, respray vehicles, install car bombs and have some fun at their own leisure throughout the duration of their turn. Mission Strategy is completely up to the player and with multiple ways to complete the missions of Grand Theft Auto IV, it is likely that each player is likely going to have their own preferred way of completing some of the missions or activities in the game.

It is not forbidden in the Chain Game to use Island Travel exploits or glitches in order to reach either Alderney or Algonquin before they are unlocked, as long as the methods that you choose do not use Cheats or Modifications which are against the Chain Game Rules.

The player is allowed to use the services of Liberty City's Prostitutes to receive a Health. You may wish to mention that you have made the most of their abilities in your Chain Game Turn Post following the turns completion, although this is not necessary and is up to the player whether or not it is included.

If you have a game crash problem on your system or you are uncertain of your success, it is also advised that you save multiple times when completing a turn, so you won't be forced to lose significant progress as a result of failing a mission, getting busted or getting wasted.

Save and Upload

Saving the Game: Once you have made progress towards the Chain Game's Goal of 100% Completion, complete your turn by saving the game at a Safehouse.

It is strongly recommended that you choose to save the game on an island close to available missions for the convenience of the following player, and also on an island that is accessible at that point in the game so inexperienced players do not have trouble trying to navigate their way back to the island the available missions are on.

You should also try and ensure that you have a good amount of Health and Armor when saving, which can be filled before you save by finding the respective pickups.

Uploading the Save File: Upload your completed Chain Game Save File for sharing in your completed post. The preferred upload service for use in the Chain Game is GTASnP.com created and developed by GTAForums Member Samutz. This service allows players to easily download the Chain Game Saves into the slot of their choice and shows information about the Save File. However, players are free to choose another File Sharing Service of their choice as long as it grants free download access without the need for registration.

If you are unable to access GTASnP.com, it is recommended that you upload your Save File to either Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.

Edit Your Post

When you've uploaded your Save File, press the 'Edit' Button in the lower right corner of the post and use the Chain Game Posting Format, which can be copied directly from the 'Chain Game' section of the GTASnP.com Page of your Save File. You can alter this format to include colors or fonts of your choice, but all posts are required to have full details of all you have completed, the overall completion percentage and a link to the Save File.

Late Edit: If you have previously completed a Chain Game Turn and wish to include additional information about your turn at a later time, you will need to specify when your turn was originally completed to prevent the turn being marked as invalid.

When making a Late Edit to your Chain Game Turn Post, be sure to add a 'Original Edit Time' field to the bottom of the Posting Format and specify when the turn was originally finished. It is important that you mention the Time Zone of the time you posted too, so that players in other time zones do not get confused and misinterpret how long it took you to complete your turn.

Violation of the Chain Game Rules

The Chain Game Rules are designed to keep the game played fairly, so that all players are having an enjoyable experience and the game is making progress. It is expected that all Chain Game Players take the time to fully understand the rules and ensure that they do not violate them during their Chain Game Turns and therefore not cause any disruption or upset amongst players.

Violations of the Chain Game Rules are treated seriously and will be dealt with appropriately by the Chain Game Staff. Chain Game Turns that violate any of the Chain Game Rules will be declared invalid and the progress made in that turn, as well as that of any following turns, will be discarded.

We recognise that players can make honest mistakes and accidentally violate Chain Game Rules and will take this into consideration. Depending on the severity of the rules broken, if it is your first time not following the Chain Game Rules your turn may not be declared invalid and in such cases the game will continue as normal.

Players that have been repeatedly broken Chain Game Rules, spam post in the Chain Game Topics, do not show respect for other Chain Game Members and choose to ignore warnings given to them by the Chain Game Staff will face temporary or permanent exclusions from the Chain Game. During the period of a Chain Game Ban, the offending player will not be allowed to participate in any Chain Game Round and all posts that they choose to make in Round Topics will be ignored, declared invalid and later removed. Persistent posting during the period of a Chain Game Ban with the intent to cause disorder in the Chain Game may be dealt externally by GTAForums under the website's Rules and Policies.

Players that witness violations of Chain Game Rules should bring them to the immediate attention of a Chain Game Staff Member. Noticing an issue early will help to prevent the loss of a great amount of progress if the issue is not noticed until much later in the game.

No one else yet? I'm quite reluctant to take the first turn in two IV rounds in a row, but this should get the round started atleast :P. I'll take a turn!

YES GTA IV! Been so excited for this new round to get going! :D Definitely taking a turn now! Watch me play LIVE here!

Mission: First Date + Flying Rats (30) + Roman Friend Activities (Darts, Strip Club, Eating, Hospital) + Win Darts + Win Bowling
Called by: 123robot
Link: https://gtasnp.com/yYBhln
Status: Completed
Completion %: 5.99%
Notes: Mission Passed! Michelle is now available for dates, and Roman is now available for friend activities!

Extermined 30 flying rats throughout Broker and Dukes! Most of the remaining rats are at the north side of the island (and the airport).

Went on a few activities with Roman, which all went flawlessly. 😛 Summary - the first time he called me for Darts, but I accidentally ran him over so I had to pick him up from the hospital later. Then he called me to go to the Strip Club, so we did that, plus eating at Burger Shot and playing Darts (which I won :D ). It was a great day out! For the most part...

Won Bowling against Michelle during the mission and won Darts against Roman during the friend activity.

Fun turn despite me messing several things up. 😛 Looking forward to the rest of the round - should be a lot of fun!

Mission: Final Destination + Recent Crimes (12) + Most Wanted + Roman Friend Activity (Pool)
Called by: 123robot
Link: https://gtasnp.com/HXyuBM

Completion %: 19.16%
Notes: Mission Passed! $500 earned.

Completed the last 12 recent crimes needed - a total of 20 have now been stopped, and Niko's a vigilante! :D

Went out with Roman for Pool - lost the first game, but then won the next one. 😛

Killed the following Most Wanted criminals - Scott Guzowski, Rodrigo Stavnes, Fernando Tisdel, Tyler Pickrel, Alonso Goralski.

Replaced the Uzi with an MP5.

Roman's next mission is now unlocked.

Sorry this turn took a bit longer than it should have - I spent ages fruitlessly trying to get the control tower pigeon, and then my internet suddenly gave up, so the latter half of the turn didn't go too well. 😧

27.61%
Notes:

  • Completed Roman's Sorrow mission. Hove Beach safehouse and Roman's cab depot were severely damaged! 😥 Glad Mallorie could provide us a safehouse in Bohan!
  • Completed Easy As Can Be for Brucie. He's got a brand new (and a bit blood covered) Oracle!
  • Received a call from Jacob, saying that he loves us and can sell guns at cheap prices!
  • Flattered by his generosity, I decided to go and play a bit of pool with him! He won 3 matches though... But the last one was all mine! 😛 (May as well note that I was lazy to drive all the way to his house so took the Maverick with me. Don't worry, though! It's still safe at Bohan's driveway!)
  • Delivered two more cars Brucie requested, with them being the PMP-600 and the Patriot;
  • Completed 3 more Vigilante levels to see if I could get some nice weapons. Discovered later that I only got a few Sniper Rifle bullets...
  • Killed 3 Pigeons in Charge island. Their locations showed below:

Completed two drug deliveries for Little Jacob - Schottler and Meadows Park. $250 earned for each, and Little Jacob like increased.

Went out with Roman on a fun day out that didn't go wrong for once. 😛 Went Bowling (and won), then saw a show, then  played Darts (and won again), and finally went Drinking before taking Roman home (then he repaid me by punching me in the face 😧 ).

Went on a date with Michelle to go eating at a diner, then had hot coffee. Woo. 😛

Also, our helicopter went missing from the Bohan safehouse. Can honestly say I don't know how that happened. :( But Niko got his Russian hat back so we have that. 😛
