Take me back to that first month. What's your go to? For me it was land races and contact missions. I still remember every inch of races like Grand Tour. Great times.

Interested to hear from everyone...

That was the go-to for everyone...In fact, those were the only decent money making options back in the day.

pretty much this, although i didn't race, i "raced" with a friend on criminal records.

then did deathmatches and lost money because ammo.

then got given billions

So I did that quick race around the prison millions of times to unlock all the upgrades

Other than that it was petty crimes, like hitting liquor stores

Yep, a lot of Criminal Records. Single laps helped out a ton.

I didn't play all that many Deathmatches; just wasn't very good at them.

Geisterfaust

Xbox 360, extremely bad loading times, input lag and subpar graphics, 5000 for death, that first race and disaster launch.  After playing IV on PC the setback was real. Somehow, I'm free of nostalgia considering early days of Online.

The deleted Contact missions, crate drops, gang attacks, security vans...all those old freemode events. Then I'd grab a bus full of friends and find the nearest gate launch glitch.

It's basically what you said OP, making money doing Gerald missions and races.

Stealing stores and picking fights with people at LSC, I remember a lot of people trying to infiltrate Fort Zancudo

Land races were my bread and butter, naturally Criminal Records was always very popular but my fondest memories are of tracks like Down the Drain, Route 68 and The Commute.

Oh yeah, no jets in the skies yet because the Tank was much easier to get and almost everyone and their mothers had billions(except for me).

Time outs, sessions splits, awful loading times.

Only good thing I remember from these days is how there were no stunt races yet, so great tracks like Grand Tour always had a lot of players racing on it.

No adversary modes spamming my phones either.

Loading into Online and actually get Drive By'd by three people in a car.

Blocking people in clothes shops.

Melee fights outside Ammunation to buy ammo

I remember being disappointed with a lot of the fun stuff missing from GTA4, looking up stuff in here and giving the mods a full blown panic attack every time I made a comment.

Doing the tutorial, getting a contact mission presented for Geralt and getting shot and your money taken by a teammate afterwards, killed the fun of Online quick for me. Back to get 100% completion of Story Mode and give it a try later again. Logged in, had no safe house and ate bullits as a welcoming gift from griefers who had nothing else to do. Leveled up to rank 30+ by doing races and left Online till I discovered Invite Only sessions. The game became good from then on.

I remember buying the Coquette and my first tiny garage. That was pretty cool.

Down The Drain, and experimenting with the best muscle cars - Sabre Turbo, Phoenix, Ruiner, something else? And wondering what the wheelie bars were for.

I remember wanting to reach level 17 so I could unlock the pump shotgun, also doing races to make money, wasn't the most effective way but it was fun

Racing Criminal Records and Down the Drain with FlyLo in the background.

Trying not to die and shoot too much in Contact Mission to make a profit.

Jacking all kinds of cars half the playerbase doesn't even remember like Cavalcade and Vigero, drive them, then jack a new one. That two car garage saw more cars than my office showroom.

First sense of accomplishment when buying the first appartment. Even more accomplishment after mid-end appartment and 9F Cabrio. Ridin' with my top down.

Doing survivals for guns money and ammo.

Seeing people in camo hoodies, shirts, pants and hats thinking  "damn must be high level"

Base Invaders aka the first Heist-like contact mission. No Hay Bronca with it's multi stage setup and boss chase.

Doing land races to unlock new vehicle mods and colors for my Übermacht Oracle and my Bravado Buffalo (oh, that sense of achievement).

Doing survivals to afford new vehicles, vehicle mods and an apartment+garage.

Grinding missions for team-based fun while making a buck (looking at you, RR).

Saving up for my first very own Carbonizzare. Still got it, still love it, but rarely drive it.

I actually recently got the Vigero and Gauntlet and upgraded both. Really fun and cool cars even though it's a shame they're so common... I don't think I've owned the Gauntlet ever before. I've sold the Vigero once... but this time around I won't sell them!

* Boosting criminal records to unlock tuning parts.

* Playing survivals and contact missions, with two guys from the UK. (met them during a survival on my first day)

* Stealing and insuring my first car. (F620, still got that one)

* Chasing after armored trucks and crates

Also remember playing funmw's job at the o'neil farm.

Good times.

Shadowfennekin

All I did was contact missions

Even then I hated Survival and Racing, only did them for the achievements and unlockables

I miss contact missions actually paying decent money without playing them for 5-10 minutes, really made it worthwhile rushing to complete them so you could do another..... now people will sit at Martin's driveway for 10 minutes, not understanding if we end it and do another mission we'd make even more money.....

Do we have a record for who bought the first (legit) adder and turned it into chromed out coffin?

Kiethblacklion

Robbed all the liquor stores, did the contact missions and robbed the armored trucks that would spawn.
