Red Dead Redemption 2 Similar to the Witcher 3

Recommended Posts

Now I'm not trying to say that Rockstar is stealing from the game, but almost everyone says The Witcher 3 is a great game. We saw Ubisoft take inspiration from the Witcher 3 last year with Assassin's Creed and I think Rockstar is going in that direction too. As a result I see Rockstar making Red Dead Redemption a lot more of an RPG than anything else which is awesome. The story may also be similar to The Witcher series and same as the interaction with the environment.

The graphics also have a pretty similar artstyle as well

I'm pretty hyped for Red Dead 2 since the game will have the world react to your actions similar to The Witcher 3. This just shows the gaming industry how a 2015 game made by CD PROJECT RED has changed the development of games. Just imagine the dialogue options, relationships and everything that makes RPG's endless worlds of freedom and not streamlined games like Fallout. Imagine how stealth in this game will be too. This is the first time Rockstar will properly introduce stealth mechanics into one of their games.

I'm so hyped to see how missions work too. All I know is that the game will give you multiple ways to do a mission if you fail. But what do guys think of Red Dead going the same Witcher 3 route Assassin's Creed Origins went last year ?

Hmm. I don't see it. Sure TW3 was a wildly successful game, but its title as a "great RPG" is highly overrated IMO. It's a very cinematic game, but in the end it's still very linear. Not what you'd find in a true RPG experience.

Related to Rockstar, I don't see how RDR2 looks ANYTHING like TW3, except for maybe the "tracking" feature. The artstyles don't look anything alike. And relationships is not a thing TW3 invented, neither is stealth.

So no, I don't think RDR2 will go the same Witcher 3 route.

TW3 doesn't even have stealth, at all.

Well good, Witcher 3 is the greatest open-world game I've played since Red Dead Redemption and its probably the better game. Every open world game should be trying to draw some inspiration from it. But no, I don't think they look alike at all. I don't see any resemblance in the art style.

If anything, I always felt CD Projekt have been heavily influenced by Rockstar over the last few years. The Cyberpunk trailer at E3 felt like a typical Rockstar Games trailer to me.

Supposedly this game has been in development for over 7 years and the Witcher 3 came out in 2015. I don't think Rockstar would have spent 4 years+ developing RDR2, then see Witcher 3, then decide to copy it's style or something. Maybe have a bit of inspiration from certain games but not copy anyones style.

I think  if you find any resemblance, it is most likely coincidental imo.

Ehh. Witcher 3 has had a big influence on open world RPG games, but I don't see any sort of major influence so far in RDR2. The interactive environment has nothing to do with Witcher 3, the old leaks talked about Skyrim when referring to it which is more accurate - as you're able to pick up so much stuff in the world in Skyrim and manipulate it, move it about, etc, and it will stay where you leave it until you move it again. Beyond that, you're just massively speculating with no basis, nothing else you say points to the game having a Witcher 3 influence.

We don't know enough yet, but if RS decided to take some cues on mission design from CDP, as well as writing in general, I'd be thrilled. Adding more unexpected consequences or even a branching outcome here and there would do wonders. I admit I got tired of many of the missions in the original because they were straightforward, fetch quest style design.

They will most likely use Speedtree as well Substance painter so I'm assuming a great attention to detail.

There is no reason for believing that Rockstar would borrow ANYTHING from TW3, especially because RDR2 is a Western shooter, not a fantasy RPG.

No and no...

Some devs are moving the industry forward, some not.

R* are the leaders in open world genre titles and I'm hoping RDR2 proves this once and for all and doesn't make me eat my Stetson!!

The only thing similar is that "dead eye sense" thing we saw Arthur using to track down a deer. It's similar to Geralt's Witcher sense.

Another thing could be a lot of different choices we can make during missions/side missions, which lead to different outcomes. The Witcher 3 really shined there, almost every quest had different outcomes depending on our choices. That's about it.

I thought the same I guess. But obviously these are two completely different types of games, I see it more as an Old western version of GTA V, but pretty different from that as well.

Eh, some inspiration yes with the hunting sense thing which is pretty cool imo, you know it can be turned off if you want to. I don't think it's much like Witcher 3, just that one feature. But anyways yes CDPR has said in interviews they are inspired by R* games and wanna be like them in their own way, they want their quality to be at their level and it shows. RDR2 and R* have it's own style but inspiration from other great game!es is never a bad thing!!  A good comparison otherwise would actually be "Assassins Creed Oddysey is a lot like Witcher 3" cause it really is shaping up to be a huge RPG type game...

Not even sure you could say the hunter sense is a Witcher 3 thing, "detective mode" has been a thing for ages now. The Batman games had it, Assassins Creed, etc.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War, etc.  This is a common feature in 3rd person open world games these days.  Personally I see very little direct influence from Witcher on this game; the majority of it is obviously RDR's features taken to the next level, with some influence from a mix of popular open world games of the last 5 years.

Aye, it's become a bit of a trope which is why some people were a bit iffy about seeing it in RDR2.

Understandably so - but I'm OK with it since RDR was already so heavily focused on hunting.  As a feature in this game, it actually makes more sense than a lot of the other games it's been in.  Maybe Horizon Zero Dawn is another where it's a perfectly natural thing to have in the game, since Aloy is basically a professional hunter/tracker as well.

YES IT'S ME ARTHUR

Rdr2 is not TW3

The one thing rockstar did is similair is the hunter sense or whatever it's called

You can't upgrade your level in rdr2 like assassin creed origns and the witcher 3

This why rdr2 # tw3

I know that their two different game genres. I'm talking more about the mission design and storytelling. I'm not saying Red dead 2 is a fantasy RPG.

I'm also not saying Red Dead 2 is copying the Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 mission design is amazing. Plus the game had 30 or so endings. Wouldn't it be awesome in Red Dead 2 if missions were affected by how much honor you have ? Rockstar are trying to immerse you into their world and borrowing some features from Witcher 3 is part of it.

The Witcher 3 is the best rated game on Xbox One so it had to get Rockstar's attention. Why would Rockstar pass on such an offer. They were given the choice to release the game on said release date or delay it and add better mission design. That's basically what's happening to Assassin's Creed so why not Red Dead 2 ?

I've played this game and its a amazing. I really there multiple endings think about there will one ending that leads into red dead redemption 1 another which will be the bad ending where eveyrone dies except for Aruthr morgan and a really good ending where the gang stay together and everyone lives happliy ever after.

Also with the romance options will be great because I wonder how many people you can romance in the game and if it changes the story in any way. Another thing is that will your choices change how certain place look like becuase maybe some guy comes up to you and asks you a few questions out of nowhere then later in the story you come to a town where all those choices made the town how it is.

I also wonder how many hairstyles Arthur will have because only san andreas had a lot of hair options also how much clothing options will you have to choose from becuase there needs to be a lot. I also hope there is swimming in the game because you cant have fishing and not allow Arthur the ability to swim and plus with the ps4/xbox one those underwater graphics must be insane.

I also wonder what buildings can you destory and how destructble is the world I'm saying I must be able to destory a whole town but a few buildings would be nice it would also be nice to destory trees like in other games.

Hey, if RDR2 is as long in story lenght as TW3 then i'm 100% sold.

That sh*t was endless and i loved it.

Apart from that, i can see a few similarities with TW3. The tracking mode and probably the whole crafting thing, some items (the horse saddles and such, with the different horsing bonus and such). But mostly it won't be nothing alike, the interaction system is going to be way less detailed for example. But these are my impressions from what i've seen on trailers so far, so we gonna have to wait and see ofc...

The game had some serious pacing issues due to it's length, in my opinion. The last two hours of the game are really rushed.

I hope the storytelling is similar to Witcher 3, missions too, But I doubt RDR2 will be as difficult as some TW3 missions though, I kinda don't want that aspect, unless there's an option to choose the level of difficulty.

witcher 3 is a mediocre ubisoft tier open world, if they take any inspiration it should be from the first Red Dead Redemption that still is the greatest game of all time.
