Destroying buildings.

Yup. its one of those posts.

Do you think in GTANext we will be able to blow buildings apart?

Take a look at the new crackdown game. Every single thing in the game is physics based and everything can be blown up. You can walk upto a wall, shoot out a shape, and the shape falls out, then you can use it as a weapon. Its possible, and if any game company can do it, its rockstar.

Honestly, I dont think full scale destruction will be in the game, but I hope if I drive 100MPH down the road and I hit a tree, I want the tree to be destroyed, haha!

Just Cause is known for being able to destroy every single building, even trees, but R* would have to sacrifice a lot if they add this in the next game, it'd be better if they implement this in a PS6 release

Crackdown has already faced lots of problems because of this feature and it's not even near the scale of GTA so it's impossible to implement such a thing in GTA but I would like R* to expand the destruction in their game more. It seems like they are doing some interesting things in RDR2. apparently you can burn an entire house in that game. I would like the ability to burn and destroy trees. Small things like this could be cool. But buildings? I don't think so. apart from being impossible to implement in a game like GTA with the current and near future hardware, It really seems unnecessary as well...

And yes...

GTA ONLINE would turn into a f*cking Wasteland.

That's only the multiplayer mode, and that's only when it's using their cloud-based processing.

Limited destruction that a lot of games is certainly possible instead of being able to destroy absolutely everything, but even then that's going to have to be squished into the technical budget; a game like GTA is bursting at the seams as it is, an obvious example being the framerate problems with explosions. Destruction is doable, and I forsee some advancement there, but building destruction is pretty much off the table.

I just hope at the very least, if I fire multiple rockets into a street, it blows up more than just cars. Even Saints Row 2 had parts of buildings that could be blown away. Very small parts, but still...

Even explosions that sound more sinister. So a huge bomb goes off a few streets away, but car alarms are set off from where I am standing. Stuff like that.

GTA Plus Enjoyer

If I throw a grenade on the road, I want to be able to see a big crack in the ground. If I throw it on dirt, I want to see a hole.

It would be possible, but I'm worried about the optimization then.

Maybe blowing EVERYTHING up is a little more far fetched.

I think blowing important things up is a lot better. Maybe blowing up a power plant, causing a huge explosion, but the city goes blackout. Imagine it, at night, blowing up a power plant and seeing the city skyline flicker into darkness. Then people riot, police are in meltdown, and we start to see smoke come from buildings, with people running down the road with TVs in their hand. Even the police raido is on meltdown and panic.
All this happened in San Andreas back on PS2 so I think GTAN could do it.

I don't think we're quite there yet. Or if we are, Rockstar probably won't do this because they'll have to make the game less dense to try to keep from having severe performance issues with their game.

Now if we were talking Story mode only though maybe, but I don't see Rockstar doing that because of how much would go into that and the fact that the same city has to be shared with GTA online so 1 can't really have something like that without the other sharing it one way or another.

The only possible way this would work online is if they made it into a mini-game where 1 team of users plays the demolition squad looking to tear the building down and the other team of users job is to stop that from happening.

If it's in free mode people will just complain about their stuff being destroyed after its supposed to be secured in their buildings, and the attacker would complain about so much of their money being deducted for the damage of all that stuff.

and if they just have random buildings no one would risk getting blown up in them so it would just be a waste of time.

Well, using a bulldozer or similar machine to break down a (smaller) building - why not? Perhaps as part of a side mission story involving real estate development?
