I'm not sure what I'll do once they're available, really. I'll probably give in as well. 😛

I was kinda hoping that EK would be slow to release blocks for the new cards, so I could use that as an excuse, alas...

Is common sense now so rare, that we should call it something else?

Nah, Jensen can f*ck himself with a giant iron cactus. Those prices are thanks by miners and absolence of competition.

Miners made the prices skyrocket so Jensen en retailers are so used to exorbitant high prices, they won't lower the prices.

To me, it's dead. I'll only grab a 1080Ti when RTX 2000's are released and will use it for the next week 4 years like my 780 is 4 years and 4 months.

And it will take years before the ray-tracing becomes standard.

you are going to pick it brand new or used? cuz i doubt that the 1080Ti will drop the price in the next months.

miners are just another % of the market, they have the same rights has any other and tbh between using something for labor /making money or just for pleasure, i think the first one is more important.

AMD Vega 64 prices also didn't help lower the prices in the market, always thought they would release something much cheaper then Nvidia. Has a business man if i can sell something for 2 and i can't keep up with the market, why would i sell it for 1?

You know what's preventing me from pre-ordering?

I have no money.

I am not impressed. In fact, I bet that Ray Tracing is going to be like tessellation all over again. Another useless Nvidia gimmick that tanks performance. They've spent so much time trying to persuade gamers that this is what they need if they don't want their games to look like sh*t, and they didn't actually bother to give us early benchmarks. The only gameplay video of Ray Tracing suggests that you can't reach 60fps with 2080Ti at 1080p in the latest Tomb Raider.

This is just the beginning. The fact that they can do it in real time at all is astounding. I was hoping either NVIDIA or AMD would push this technology in the gaming space and my wish came true.

No, ray tracing is not a gimmick at all. It is more akin to the jump from 2D to 3D. Gradually raster graphics will be phased out but that will likely take at least a decade longer.

even a 2080TI struggles to hit 60fps on shadow of the tomb raider  in 1080p with ray tracing on :O, i dont know how many people spend that amount of cash in a GPU to play in 1080p, but my guess is not many.

Battlefield V does run at 60 FPS with ray-tracing though according to Digital Foundry. Maybe the game wasn't optimized in time for the GPU announcements.

Ray tracing isn't the only thing this card does though. Right after you posted this I saw reports of the 2080 Ti having massively improved 4K performance, being able to run AAA titles at solid 60 fps or even higher. As 4K high refresh rate monitors are becoming a thing now, this will be the card to have for a lot of people.

I sure hope so, ray tracing as good as it looks, its just not enough to me to justify the amount of money to go back to a lower resolution.

Also whats up with the huge difference in prices even between same class of GPUs?

The gigabyte windforce 2080ti goes for 1169€ while the others go for 1350€ almost 200€ difference

I never buy products like these used, only brand new. Prices haven't been dropping but it can change once the RTX series are released.

I wanna play games on 2160p60.

At least in here, brand new,  980's, 980Ti's didn't had a significant drop in prices when the 10 series got out, until they went out of stock.

My guess is they are marketing it as "X" amount of more performance for "X" amount of more €

I can't even wrap my head around how stupid all of that is. Luckily, judging by the comments everywhere, he's getting called out on it hard. I still can't decide whether I think it's even real or not.

Why RTX GPU's are worth the money.......... LOL! Sure, I'm gonna spend more than a f*cking grand on a GPU that's been developed to get real-time reflection, f*ck off.

RTX GPU's are simply way too expensive because: no competition, so AMD is out of picture for now and thanks by miners, retailers now knows some people with lesser brains will gladly pay more than a grand for RTX. How does nVidia expect the PC gaming to destroy the consoles?? Of course a lot will move over to consoles if this sh*tty prices keeps going on.

in case you hadn't noticed, GPU prices have stabilised these last few months as everyone realises that cryptocurrency mining is snake oil and punted their expensive GPUs onto the second-hand market.

I can get a brand new EVGA Black Edition 1080Ti SuperClocked 2 on my doorstep tomorrow for less than £650 through Amazon.

Here in Netherlands the prices hasn't been stabilised at all.

Last year in November the MSI 1080Ti version was around €749.

And yes, I noticed the cryptomining crap has turned into snake oil but those greedy asshats still wanna keep the prices jacked up.

I doubt it. I think that the price increase is largely due to the new hardware features. Now granted the examples they've given of ray-tracing in upcoming games were a bit underwhelming. We're still far-off from anything like a full-blown ray-traced game engine (which would be the end goal) but this is just the first step. People who say that this is a gimmick like HairWorks or PhysX clearly don't understand the technology. It would have been akin to saying that 3D graphics are a gimmick back when they were starting to be implemented in games.

Ray-tracing is as big a leap as 3D graphics but it will take at least 5 more years until it's properly implemented in games.

Are we, uh...going to be getting $999 2080 Ti's any time soon? EVGA, who I stick with for GPUs, has only an $1199 and $1249 2080 Ti available via Newegg. Manufacturer's Rejected Retail Price?

What about NVLink? I had thought that SLI was being abandoned, but evidently that's not the case. Are people talking about NVLink? Because it seems that it could make a very big difference in multi- or at least dual-GPU performance.

As soon as the benchmarks hit, I think I'll pull the trigger on a 2080 if it beats the 1080 Ti. They would be similarly priced here. Too bad I can't get the FE version.

Edit: I pulled the trigger on a 1080 Ti and the 165 Hz Acer Predator IPS 1440p monitor. My CPU is kinda old and leaked benchmarks place the 2080 only about 5% ahead of the 1080 Ti and it is about $100 more expensive than the Gigabyte 1080 TI I ordered.

Spoiler

About $1.7K total.
