How come we can hear the police radio?

So while playing the GTA titles, one thing I noticed that's always in nearly every GTA to date is that we can hear the police radio when we commit a crime (e.g. "Suspect last seen at X street with a red car").

This always made no sense to me as we can hear the radio, even when the police are not in close proximity and we're not in a cop car.

So how do we hear the police radio, even though we are not near any police at times?

So that you laugh, and enjoy, making the police chases less boring, including real time updates of the crime, like the suspect is on foot, etcetera, among many other lines that describe the on going chase, and the description of the criminal.

It mainly serves the purpose of adding immersion and make it more intense.

I get what you mean but what my question really is is how do we hear this police radio.

It (IMO) would make more sense to hear this radio if we were driving in some sort of police vehicle or were in close proximity to a police vehicle (I always thought when I was slightly younger was that we heard this radio was coming from a cop car with an open door).

But like you said, it makes police chases more intense and interesting.

It is one of the things in video games that we don't know the logical reason of it, but we know it 'works'.

The police radio thing serves only to us as the players who are viewing the whole thing as an ejected third person. We are like playing God and we know what stuff going on from both sides meanwhile we are rooting and 'guiding' the protagonist.

Guess that could work as a reason.

I can understand what you're saying about us playing God and "guiding" the characters. Just it was weird to me when I was younger as I thought the characters had super-hearing lol.

Yea when I was young, I speculated that the protagonists own some sort of police walkie-talkie or radio.

How does the protagonist carry so many weapons? Hold so much ammunition? Hold onto so much cash?

Answer is who cares lol. It’s game design, we don’t need an in-universe explaination for everything. It’s fun to think about these things but at the end of the day it’s all meaningless.

GTA Plus Enjoyer

I might be wrong, but they might have a police scanner? (that's the only thing that makes sense to me)
