Who Took Control Of The Leones?

So, I have a question. Who do you think, took control over Leone family, after Salvatore's death? Toni or Joey? Or there was some kinda civil war, between the two?

I think Toni. Cus, he already was heavily involved into criminal stuff. Was aslo a Capo and Salvatore's most trusted asset. Joey, wasn't that involved into family stuff. In the most part.

  Anyway, what do you think? Could be interesting discussion.

I'm not sure how things work in the Italian mafia but I guess that the son should take the place of the boss. In this case - Joey.

Maybe Joey. He wasn't much involved in the family business in 1998, but by 2001 he sorta was.

 

On the other hand, Toni was Salvatore's right hand. And there are no mentioned underbosses. So he could take over while still retaining the Leone name.

I think Toni would advance. I don't know entirely how it worked in the Italian mafia, but I don't think that the next person in line to take over if the boss died had to be their son or someone in the same bloodline. Toni was the underboss and was way more experienced and involved with the Leones than Joey ever was.

 

Joey taking over would make him something like the Kim Jong Un of the mob, a young and inexperienced guy becoming the new leader just because of who his father was, while all of these older and more experienced members have to answer to him and take orders from him.

A lot of people seem to think Toni would step up the boss position, but I think Luigi might be a better bet. Unlike Toni, he's not launching wars against rival gangs to the point of blowing up their factories, he's got a lucrative business under his control, as well as a profitable prostitution racket and a good relationship with the police. Toni, on the other hand, wasn't respected by Sal and this attitude probably extended to the rest of the family. Liberty City Stories made it pretty clear that the Leones didn't think much of Toni, he was nothing more than a solid mid-management guy.

Luigi was just a made man!A made man is bellow the capo, so Luigi is bellow Toni's rank.I think toni would take salvatore's place, in GTA LCS Sal said Toni was more of a son then Joey was, so, forget that sh*t about joey being the son.

In truth, considering how Sal stiffed Toni for money at the end of LCS, I wouldn't put too much faith in anything he said. By that point he was already pretty paranoid, and despite Toni going away from Liberty for his sake, Sal was still happy to promote Vincenzo over him and force him into a subservient role.

You're right, Sal sure was paranoid, but that doesn't mean he couldn't trust anyone. I simply can't see how luigi would take over, he's just a made man while toni is a capo, and toni was more into the Leone's business than any other leone or joey or luigi, and, toni was the most loyal to Sal all along, but, luigi could actually be the best don, he seems like a professional business man!

You make a good point. I think Sal might have trusted Toni on some level, but the bigger issue is whether he respected Toni. Looking at how Toni gets treated at the end of Liberty City Stories, even after helping shore up the Leone's power, I think it's clear Sal never viewed him as much more than a hired goon. The entire game ends with Sal literally insulting Toni to his face.

By 2001, Toni has gained a great deal of weight and appears far less ambitious. And remember what I said about him getting into meaningless fights? Prior to release, Rockstar created numerous fake newspaper articles, in which it was revealed that Toni repeatedly gets into fights at the restaurant, which is not exactly wise behaviour for the leader of a major crime syndicate!

 

If Toni was the same man he was in 1998, he'd probably be the clear successor. But when we meet him again he's just not the same man he was.

Agreed!Maybe if rockstar knew that they would make tony a protagonist in a later gta (lcs) back in GTA 3 early development days, toni could have been a whole lot different. Either way, even tough luigi would make a great leader, what counts its the rank, the hierachy, not the skill nor the blood line (joey). As far as im concerned, Toni is the highest rank in the Leone's, at least that we know off.

It's possible that there was a civil war in the family, splitting into two one led by Toni and the other by Joey. Since it was undecided who would become the next big cheese.

I think Joey took over the control of the family while Toni became the consigliere and Luigi advanced in the hierarchy and became the Capo, something like what happens in the Godfather, Micheal takes over even after Clemenza and other made men are more experienced than him. Also I don't see Toni been greedy and claiming the position of the boss or if that happens, there would be a civil war.
