I already purchased the Xbox One X just for this game, but would like to buy the PC version regardless since I built myself a pretty strong pc a while ago. Wanna enjoy dem graphics at max, nyeheheh  :]

I'll never fall in that mistake again lol. When GTA V came out I bought an Xbox 360. Just to later sell it for PC parts for the release of GTA V on PC haha

Actually, a Linux build does raise an interesting question.  Since Linux is much more server and specialist orientated, could it be related to the idea that Online might actually be built off dedicated servers?

I think you're stretching it. A lot of games are on Linux now, but the thing with dedicated servers is a stretch. But a man can dream after all.

One copy is the cost of a night out in a London.

Exactly. I've played GTA V for five years and got 3 copies: one collectors edition for Xbox 360, one Xbox one and one for PC. The latter was so cheap that there are more expensive burgers in almost every joint.

I mean a PC version is not a question everbody knowing their business model its absolutely clear that its going to be ported.

they sold millions of GTA V copies on PC and GTA Online has still a strong fanbase on PC. What would be the reason for Rockstar not to port it?

wouldnt make any sense. PC development should be much further in progress than compared to GTA V.

They probably going to release it around spring to summer time

It was 450 euros for both the console and the game. If the PC release of RDR2 will happen soon, like in the first or 2nd quarter of 2019, then I might still sell my Xbox One X too with RDR2 as a free copy with it. If I could get 300 euros for that, then I'll be happy. As long of course there won't be other Xbox games that will interest me that is.

But dang.. I just want to play RDR2. I have enough cash anyway since I am quite good at saving up monies.

Wonder what will be the Beta name this time for Steam testers. Last time for GTA V it was "Shetland Pony"

If that's what you want and you have enough cash, why wait? Especially taking into account that your time may get more expensive later: studies, jobs, promotions, family, etc.

True as frick! Love my job though. I work from home, so if I could just be a little faster with it, I'd have even more free time, lel.

Looks like I am back to doing what I'm good at - waiting for PC versions of R* games to drop.

Same.

At least this time the leaks & sh*t started early. We had to wait for GTA V's 360 disc to be wide open (which didn't take long tbf) before we could get a hint of next-gen/PC versions. This companion app for RDR2 was a real blessing.

I know right. I usually data-mine those apps (iFruit, V Manual, etc.) to see what I can find and the result is usually boring. Random development paths, boring bitmaps, random strings...

This time, however, it seems like they developed the app on RAGE, which led to all this information leak...

Do you think that the PC release date will have a delay?

Kinda hard to speculate that considering we don't even have a BASE date yet 😛

I'd say its unlikely, because as aforementioned here, R* doesn't need to release new gen consoles versions this time, and considering the fact that there already is a PC version in the works for a while.

But then I remind myself that it is R* were talking about, so who knows...the PC release of GTA V not only was long, but was additionally delayed as well.

GTA V's PC release had like 3 different dates attached to it after it was announced.

Fall 2014, January 27th 2015, March 24th 2015... then it finally landed on April 14th 2015. So that's actually one vague release window and three dates. It was pretty insane. I think it was the most delays I've ever seen happen within such a short timespan. Like, almost frantic amounts of panic delaying. I thought for sure the PC version would turn out to be a f*cking disaster.

How many times was RDR2 delayed on console, does anyone know?

This is in RDR2's credits. I'll just leave it here (The PS4 might also be running on this but* it's a sign RAGE has it and explains the API switch):

*As corrected in a post below, PS4 games do not run on Vulkan so this is likely for PC.

Holysh*t. eAPI is indeed a Graphics API Switcher then...

Based on the findings in the previous posts, RDR2 on PC will have at least the following new graphics settings (not listing the ones that are the same as GTA V):

  • Something about MaxTexUpgradesPerFrame, could be Maximum Texture Upgrades Per Frame, maybe something about texture blending?
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing (also used on consoles, has an on/off switch)
  • Sharpening (to counter TAA's soft effect)
  • Checkerboarding Enabled/Disabled, many modern games already employ it on PC too
  • Velocity Buffer Enabled/Disabled, this is for Velocity-Based Motion Blur
  • Lighting Fog Volumes Quality
  • Scattering Volumes Quality
  • Volumetric Lighting Quality
  • "eAPI", likely to switch graphics API's

There's something about particle density, quality, lighting and shadows separately but I'm not sure if V doesn't have those internally too.

Saw my name in this thread a few times because of what I said about RDR2 PC being scheduled for June or July 2019. When I said that back in June of this year, that's what I had last heard about it, but it can easily change. I would not take the month info too seriously if I was you. And no, I'm not saying that because I know it changed, I actually have no idea.

Investigating further. The DirectX API version switch will have four options apparently.

LWoDHqU.png

In the game memory and settings.xml:

0 - DX11

1 - DX11.1
2 - DX12

3 - DX12.1
I found some hashes and four byte values...

Yeah I think most of us here have learned not to put any stock in dates with Rockstar, even officially unannounced ones. We're just glad to know that a PC version is in the works early on, since Rockstar PR hasn't said a single word about the PC version of the game since RDR2's reveal back in 2016.

I think even with GTA V, they used to have default PR answers they'd give to people asking about PC. "No plans at this time" or "Stay tuned to the Newswire for info." I haven't seen any of that for RDR2. I'm guessing they figured there's no point. Especially if they plan on getting it out the door quicker than GTA V's PC release.

Nice to be back!

I Bought GTA V PC via Steam on release date.

After a while i bought it on PS4. Dont know why, but i loved that game.

I dont even play console usually.

Now when RDR2 was released, i bought it to PS4. But im waiting for the PC release too.

Ive got the PS4 Pro, but i can feel that it drops to under 30fps alot.

4K TV 65".

HDR OFF to save some extra fps.

Got a GTX 1080 in my PC so ill guess it wil be enough to run RDR2 on PC in 1080p @ 60.

Have a nice day!

I was also informed the PS4 uses a custom graphics API by Sony in its games, GNM and GNMX, which means Vulkan being credited is even more significant than it already was I guess.

So the PS4 version doesn't use Vulkan?

What about the Xbox One credits, are they the same?

I actually don't know the platform of the credits I watched, but I am going to assume Xbox is using DX12 like most modern games on it.

When can we start an official RDR2 beta thread?

The companion app findings don't yet justify a beta thread because it's not really game assets, just engine stuff. My personal feelings about it is that we should get a beta thread when people start cracking into the files and such.

Red Dead PC greedy circle, again!

I started to hate R*, mostly I hate Sony and Microsoft these two giants are everywhere especially Sony.

I will not wonder if they start to make a clothes with the sony logo on them.

Because of this giant the PC gaming dying, they just wait for a good bait in this case RDR2 or some other masterpiece of R* or any good game from any game company and they put this bait on their hooks (consoles) also they buy this bait just for a couple of million with a contract and this contract says that the game will be only on the hooks for one or two years and put all of this in the game ocean and the fishes (gamers) begin to peck.

After the contract the game company apprise " hey the PC version is coming but wait just one year to polish the game and then maybe 5 or 10 patches" the most (90-99%) of the PC gamers already know/watched the walk trough but the game will cost only 89 or 99 dollars and now is the time of the small giants (nvidia, intel and amd).

I waited GTA IV, EFLC, RDR (Without luck because here the contract from the giants was forever), GTA V and now WAITING AGAIN!!! I'M SICK AND TIRED FROM WAITING R*!!!
