Do you actually think Rockstar sees releasing games on console only as a 'tradition'. There's no 'tradition' in releasing a game for PC or not.

If they had a silly traditions like that, Grand Theft Auto would have never come to console because it was born on PC and it was a PC exclusive.

The most anticipated game and one of the highest rated games this decade will have no issue selling millions on PC. There is no "lack of established community".

Rockstar can easily prevent information about future updates leaking, they just don't care enough to stop people from leaking GTA:O information with the PC version of the game.

RDR1 didn't come to PC because we can reasonably figure out that:
RDR1's code was too messy to port, the game ran pretty bad on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Porting the game to PC was not financially viable, this is Rockstar's own words.

 

Ever since Max Payne 3, the quality of their games on the RAGE engine from a technical point of view has been top notch, they are greatly optimized and run great.

'Porting' RDR2 to PC will be a piece of cake, it won't be an issue from a financial point of view... Actually, this game was probably built from scratch to work on PC and was scaled accordingly to run on the PS4 and XB1 so there's actually no porting that needs to be done.

Here is what I believe to be a list of compilation targets for RAGE.

One of them being "Linux".¬†ūü§Ē

Taking another look at the graphics settings that I found, there is one simply called "eAPI".

I'm inclined to believe that there might be a Linux version... This "eAPI" or "API" could very well be an option for the graphics API utilized by the game.

Linux versions would only be able to run on Vulkan. Windows versions, on the other hand, would be capable of running in both Vulkan and DirectX.

 

Note that I may be wrong about this, I'm just speculating...

In addition, GTA V has all of those except Linux. Linux is definitely new. Android isn't listed there although the app is running on RAGE itself.

 

The names of the RPF files are usually the compile target (i.e. ps4.rpf, x64.rpf, Android.rpf....)

I cannot see that myself....

 

They only sat on the V version because of the Next Gen launch and saw the opportunity for an extra round of milking.  Converting the PC build was a rapid process.

Yeah with GTA V they took their "PC always later" shtick way too far but I don't think that's gonna happen again this time.

 

Going back to the usual 6-8 months wait there was before V would be best but I could put up with up to a year, longer than that is just ridiculous.

If you read the rest of the thread after that post, a few posts further down, there's settings that directly refer to DX12 and features that were not available in GTA V, because they were unnecessary and not implemented.  There's also hints that the iFruit App has links to a Linux build, not just Windows 10.

Actually, a Linux build does raise an interesting question.  Since Linux is much more server and specialist orientated, could it be related to the idea that Online might actually be built off dedicated servers?

It would be more likely that the "API" setting found in the app could have a choice of DirectX or Vulkan. It would be impressive if they released RDR2 on Linux with Vulkan, but then again this might just mean they've adapted the engine not that they're releasing the game on it.

Eh, I don't think I will buy this game as soon as it comes out (if it comes out at all) this time, I'm honestly kind of tired of R* practices when it comes to the PC platform.

 

Perhaps when it's at 20 bucks from one of those websites? Sure, but they won't get 60 euros from me anytime soon. My hype will be dead in 7 months anyway.

Yeah I can bet there will be autolooting mods, thats for sure (or maybe R* will add that feature). Game can already skip the animation if horse blocks your way so it should be easy to replicate.

We will have mods for looting, fast travel, gigantic horse balls, guns that shoots bears and flying deluxos.

I had that feeling with gtaV. By the time it was on PC pretty much everything was spoiled for me.

They actually can perform full milking cycle again, because next gen is roughly only a year away. Unless rdro will show a good micro transaction potential, in this case waiting = missing constant money stream.

I'm not so sure. GTA V released a mere two months before next-gen consoles launched (Nov. 2013). it was a much closer gap. The new gen consoles aren't even revealed yet. RDR2 also isn't nearly as held back by current gen hardware as GTA V was last gen. All the bells & whistles are there. Prettier graphics, first person mode. There's not much they can use to justify RDR2's existence on a PS5 or XB1 2.0 before either has even been released.

Did anyone check the RDR 2 PS4 RPFs out yet? Would love to help with analyzing them. Unfortunately I don't own a PS4. If anyone here owns a blu ray disk reader (for PC) and a retail copy of the game for PS4, message me.

There are no decent file dumps out yet as you need a hacked console to do a file dump, and the firmware RDR2 needs isn't hacked yet AFAIK. This isn't something we can freely discuss here however.

@Spider-Vice I read online that the blu ray holds a pkg file. That one can be extracted using some tool... Sadly a retail pkg file doesn't seem to be available anywhere yet :/

Looks like I am back to doing what I'm good at - waiting for PC versions of R* games to drop.

 

@Xplorer Yes it contains a .pkg file but it is encrypted, only a small part of it can currently be decrypted but the actual game files or "pfs block" has yet to be "cracked", this is mainly because even on an exploited console we still do not have full control over SAMU processor (unit which does actual decryption on PS4) which means we cannot extract decryption keys from there. 

What you should be looking for if you want to take a look at game files is a .fpkg (fake pkg which usually has passcode that consists of 32 zeros) which will be made once PS4 firmware 6.00 is exploited.

I already purchased the Xbox One X just for this game, but would like to buy the PC version regardless since I built myself a pretty strong pc a while ago. Wanna enjoy dem graphics at max, nyeheheh  :]
