Lay up is a term used in basketball, it's a ball shoot that is very simple and easy to do. So it means very easy.

Tomorrow makes it 8 months? If im not mistaken. Let's go another 8 months bois. If we don't see any news next month or August we're not gettin the game this year and theyre doing the same thing as with GTA V that means we might get the game at Holidays 2020 or early 2021.

I imagine the chances of a PC announcement are either

1) out of the blue

2) confirmed for the next gen consoles w a pc announcement
3) hinted at during a red dead online post

Considering that every major Rockstar title eventually got a PC release (with RDR1 the only exception, and that was because of the messy code) I would say they definitely want to release their games on PC and think they are profitable enough, especially now that the PC market is as strong as ever.

Not disagreeing with you.

As I said, this would be the reason, imo, if it were NEVER to be released.  Something in particular with the San Diego studio.

That's a big IF - I'm still one holding faith it will be released on PC and they're just waiting for a better time to do it in their minds and using their other major title this decade as the example.

It's a basketball term - probably the easiest shot to make in basketball during game play (free throws are done outside of game play as they're penalty shots).

But i'm not going to buy it this time. I will have cp2077, dying light 2, bloodline 2 and watch dogs 3, i won't care other games and the hypothetical rdr2. I will wait only this year to decide buy it...

RDR2's a juggernaut of a game but early 2020 is gonna be an absolute bloodbath unless devs starting delaying their games out of that window, which might not be so likely give that the next gen consoles won't be far away. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the PC version out before the year ends I think, because otherwise it's gonna be in with all the launch hype for the games out in the first few months of 2020.

Releasing in early 2020 is suicidal. Cyberpunk has 2020 on lockdown with both consoles and PC. Will many really give a sh*t about RDR2 by then? I know I won't. Sorry R*, you used to be my one and only but there's competition now.

Gotta be this year. Then console gamers will mostly like buy it again with their new PS5's or Xbox whatevers.

Exactly! a 2020 release would be suicidal with all the good games who could put a shadow on their sell; Cyberpunk 2020, Final Fantasy 7 remake (well, at least the first part of the game), Watch Dogs Legion, Trials of Mana, Phantasy Star Online 2 North American official release, etc...etc... If their intelligent enough and want to make the most profit; Fall 2019 would be the best candidate.....

Cyberpunk is the one they want to avoid really, RDR2 PC will swat away p much anything else. I don't think Cyberpunk's launch is one they'll want to get anywhere near tho, the hype for that will mean everyone wants to be in day 1 so RDR2 would get put on hold.

Also, this is likely because the PC version is already developed/in development. They're 99% withholding it imo.

Totally agree. I think there could be a really small gap between announcement and release because of this.

Do you guys think they will release an upgraded version for the new consoles, and if they are planning to do that, how much does that affect when they will release the PC version?

How this is looking probably yes. IUf they wont release it this year theyre gonna kick themselfes in the balls. Next year everyone is gonna keep their eyes on Cyberpunk. Plus PC players are already mad for waiting this much soo if not this year it seems we have to wait if we dont hear anything next month or august

Without a doubt, I think this strategy is the best for R* and they will surely do the same thing for the future games but the real question is What they are waiting for?

As already pointed out, tomorrow it's been 8 months after the release. I guess it's safe to assume the game is not coming to PC in 2019 if we don't hear anything by the end of July/August?

Definitely not an unreasonable thought. Modern gaming/internet as is means we devs can drop games without much warning if they have the right marketing budget, so Rockstar wouldn't need months and months of build up for RDR2 especially as it's already out on consoles, but it wouldn't fit with their M.O. so who knows if they'll announce it and release it within a 2-3 month timeframe.

I think they are going to start marketing for it, along with the Red Dead Online Summer Update.

Similar to how they did it with GTA Online Heists and GTA V for PC.

Timing the marketing of two very similar products saves marketing budget and is quite efficient and effective for both.

I don't personally see how they would put that off. I mean the PS3/Xbox 360 and PS4/PC/Xbox One version had a big graphics improvement due to the next gen hardware improvement, but now on the current gen the game already look really gorgeous and can already run in 4K in the pro version of the consoles, so what could that add more? Ray Tracing? A slight bump in textures? Not that much. Plus there's the fact that the next Xbox will apparently have retro compatibility through the original first Xbox (and it it wouldn't surprise me that Sony would thus do the same). So, how would they sell a just a tad graphically improved game when I have my retro-compatible next gen hardware that can run an already beautiful game already capable of 4K and HDR?

Late 2020 ( and 2021 of course ) is too late, I will simply not buy it. And as aforementioned, R* should avoid releasing anywhere near Cyberpunk 2077. Their window is now until January give or take. I hate the way they take the PC community for granted, but I don't believe they'll make such a crucial mistake. And we all know that the reason for alleged PC late release is one and only - money. So there's that.

Fake 4k(ok, so checkerboarded) and very poor HDR.

So when PS5 and Xbox2 roll around, we *MAY* have consoles capable of native 4k and locked 30fps, or 1080p and locked 60fps. We may also have a game world with much more detail, proper HDR and possibly improved gameplay etc. Do you think people wouldn't pay for an updated version of RDR2? Either way I think we can assume that the next gen consoles are going to be a significant step up for current gen, whereas the PRO was a fakey upgrade(I have a pro, love Sony, but still).

As for backward compatibility...well I don't understand tech stuff enough to know whether they can do a remaster but also have option to use backward compatible version of the game and it be viable. I do know that R* are going to want a huge game like this on next gen, it's a safe assumption imo.

I'm starting to think the way it is going to go down is RDR2 PC will be announced at Gamescom for a 27th of September then in 2021 RDR2 will come out on next gen with a remastered original story which will release later on PC. I think this is the most logical way for rockstar to handle it because if they release PC and Next Gen together then consumers will only buy on one platform and if they release it on PC that late there will be less of an interest to buy it. But on the other hand if they release RDR2 on PC on the 27th of September and then on Next Gen in 2021 without any sort of new content consumers will have much less incentive to buy it again because in everyone's eyes the PC version will be the definitive. I think by releasing on Pc this year and then bringing a remastered original story to the next gen version first in 2021 Rockstar will milk the most money they can.

But all the things you enumerated are "minor" upgrades, not enough for a full "remaster". So would they be able to sell an upgraded version? Maybe, but never at the same price of a brand new game, which Rockstar would be greedy enough to try, but we gamers are not dumb, we remember what they pulled us with GTA V.

Plus, like I said, the next gens are rumored to be retrocompatible (well the Xbox for now), so the incentive to rebuy the game again with just a few upgrades not enough to be really called a remaster would be very low, specially will all the huge games like Cyberpunk which is coming next year. I mean, would YOU pay the price of a full game just for native 4K 60fps? Plus with the next gens probably that the console will be able to pull this out just from the current gen version of the game via retro-compatibility with just a minor patch!

So, in my opinion, if Rockstar are intelligent enough they'll release the PC version before the end of 2019 and in worse case sell some kind of optional DLC/update pack for PC and the next gens in a few year's for "better" graphics.

Plus, "Proper HDR" that's nit picking at hell, man people are greedy in terms of graphics nowadays. I saw my sister and her boyfriend playing on their TV and with HDR the game is frigging GORGEOUS!

So, in my opinion, again, I don't see them pulling the same stunt they pulled with GTA V. The PS3/Xbox 360 -> PS4/Xbox One was a major upgrade in terms of graphics. Yeah the next gen will be one too, but something less visible as the next Xbox speech at E3 was all about native 4K and upscaled 8K. Not everyone has the money to buy 4K and even less 8K TV right now, so, the upgrade in terms of graphics for most people will not be as visible as ps3 to ps4 era was. RDR2 is still a very gorgeous game and waiting all this time just to sell a slightly updated version of the game in two year's when all the hype has been blown off with all the great game that are gonna be released in the next year, that would be dumb in terms of profit. So, yeah, for me both for the consumer and their profit, for me if they don't go for at least a before the end of 2019 release, they are shooting their own foot.

People believe much in rockstar. rockstar always neglected pc gamers. most of their games never released on pc and red dead series was never on pc so its highly unlikely that there will be a pc version. they may don't even thinking about making a pc version as they are milking people in gta online and rdr 2 online.

Literally every single major Grand Theft Auto game is on PC. LA Noire, Max Payne 3... pretty much all the big releases from Rockstar are on PC. RDR1 was the sole exception, aside from stuff like Midnight Club. MC2 even made it to PC, lol.

Some of those games, like LA Noire, didn't even have astronomical demand on PC like RDR does currently.
