There's zero obstacles other than optimising for PC hardware. The controls translate to mouse and keyboard perfectly fine.

It'll happen, 100%. They want that double dip.

Tell me how you'd map riding a horse while aiming and shooting at bad guys from behind. That's a challenge on my end because I'm stuck with the joypad setup in mind. That's something I've been curious about since the first Redemption.

And if you end up right about the game coming to PC, I'll change my avatar to a deranged Arthur for a year. I doubt the game is coming, but I'm willing to have some fun with a bet.

What lol, have you ever played a third person action game on PC? Or GTA? It'd work the exact same, WASD to move and mouse to aim. Shooting would actually be easier too, cause mouse accuracy and all that.

Also, better prepare that avatar then.

I have, but RDR is a little more complex. You don't hold down buttons to move the horse, there's a constant pattern.

Also don't be condescending or cocky. Two games so far and no PC release? I'm gonna need to see some probable theory, not this 100% stuff. No PC release by October 2019 and it's an avatar of Dutch's pearly whites for a year for you. ;)

RDR is not more complex. The controls will adapt fine, you hold W to move forward, tap it to increase speed. It's absolutely fine and it honestly boggles my mind that you thought up controls of all things as a reason for it not coming to PC lol.

It's not about being condescending or cocky, either, the only signs pointing to RDR2 on PC not happening is because RDR1 didn't. GTA IV, La Noire, Max Payne, GTA V, they all came to PC. Max Payne 3 and GTA V were good ports. The current version of RAGE works well on PC, there's been LinkedIn profiles of Rockstar devs with the PC version spotted.

It's gonna happen lol, just they want the double dip.

Are you sure you want to make this bet? That IS a part of the new fiscal year.

About the controls, keep in mind that Rockstar usually changes tap functions from controller to keyboard. In GTA V (and IV I'm pretty sure), you had to tap A to sprint. On PC, you just hold shift. They could do the same thing for horses on PC. Otherwise, I see no issue. Plenty of games let you shoot bows & other projectiles from horseback with no problems on keyboard and mouse. Should be the same for guns.

If a low-key franchise like Yakuza can find a way to make its infinite amount of minigames work on keyboard and mouse, I'm pretty sure Rockstar can figure out how to make a horse move.

You can easily adapt gamepad controllers for a game like RDR to Mouse and Keyboard... and galloping on your horse and shooting at enemies from behind would be infinitely more easier with a mouse and keyboard.

Something from the top of my head.
Hold shift to gallop the horse, use W, A, and D to control direction. If there's a stamina mechanic just like in RDR, let go of shift for a short moment so the horse can build up stamina while it gallops at a slower pace. Hold S to slow horse down or bring it to a stop.

With M+K one hand can have complete control of the horse and also have complete control of your gun with your other hand on the mouse... funny thing is this isn't exactly possible on console. On a console controller you can't gallop at full speed and have full control of your gun (can't free aim), this wasn't a big deal in RDR because you could just lock on to aim and still continue galloping... but free aim and full stamina galloping isn't possible on console but would be possible on M+K.

Countless games have implemented such mechanics with mouse and keyboard just fine. And Rockstar has no issue with PC, since many of their games are on the platform and GTA5 is actually an excellent port. Why Red Dead seems to be an exception on one can know, but we do know the last Red Dead was in development hell and was on an old engine that didn't port well to PC. Their track record indicates that if they can bring a game to PC, most often they do.

My Theory: We can find in GTA Online on the PC the Tomahawk and the revolver. Why should Rockstar allow this event if we do not get a PC release? That does not make sense.

I think we will get RDR2 on the PC :)

A good friend of mine knows someone who works at an English R* office and asked him if RDR2 is coming to PC. My friend said his answer was basically very tounge-in-cheek, stating "I can neither confirm nor deny it", due to employee confidentiality agreements. But he had strongly hinted at a PC release about "a year after" the console release.

Now, don't take my word for it. I'm simply just sharing what my friend said because I trust him. With that said, I don't care for a PC port considering how bad GTA V's is. But for those of you who wants one, wait a year and see. I'm sure R* won't pass up on the money-making opportunity of releasing RDR2 (Online) and its microtransactions on PC. Everybody's just gonna have to get it for console first.

you will all have to double dip again and again since this time there is going to be a beta test and I'm sure you all want to be there on day one for those exclusive beta test rewards.

grow up and get a console.

I am not double dipping this time. I will wait for the PC release. Don't want to hand over my money to R* till I am totally convinced about the single player game's quality as well as post release support, whether or not SP being ignored later for the multiplayer, incl. the plans for DLC, if any.

All this will take time and by the time they will annnounce PC version, I will get a clear idea of Rockstars intention with regards to SP.

Also, PC port of V was really good. A hundred times better than IVs PC port.

Well said. Not engage in their tactics.

As a PC player only (dont own current gen consoles) this year i bought an used xbox 360 just to play the first RDR. I love the game but i hate handle the camera and shoot with the controller. I need a mouse for that, is way more comfortable.

Also the plus that we will have more frames on PC.

True or not this is really plausible and what I also said I thought was going to happen some posts ago.

Maybe PC announcement in spring 2019 then?

I used to think the same after playing Vice City and San Andreas for years on PC. But when IV came I couldn't afford to upgrade my PC so I bought an Xbox 360. I hated playing with a controller at first but once I got used to it, I could never go back to PC the same way again.

I own GTA V on both PS4 and PC and I actually went back to playing on PS4 because the PC version (Online that is) is way too cancerous. It's generally a lot more stable and non-hacked on PS4. I imagine the same thing will happen with RDR2 if and when they release it for PC, hence why I'ma just gonna stick to console this time around. PC gaming in all its glory and "master race advantages" ... but when you can't keep out hackers from ruining the Online portion of it, it just makes the game unplayable to me.

GTA 5 and GTAO is from 2013

They can avoid a ton of the typical hacks by moving things server side. That's the reason people can give them selves infinite cash, ammo, health etc - it's all editable on the users side. GTAO is essentially an MMO-lite but essentially functions like a peer to peer hosted PvP.

Hosting all that important stuff on the server like any normal MMO or MMO-lite does will fix A LOT of the cheating problems. Things like aimbots will still exist and for that you need a good anti-cheat, but they'll eliminate a lot of the most commonly run into cheats just by just not letting every f*cking thing be editable by clients.

Rockstar learned from the mistakes. i hope. GTAO was a one man project. Nobody believed that it was so popular. I think RDO and the next GTAO are programmed professionally. lol

Is P2P less costly than say a separate server you are talking about?

It could be that they want to save the additional costs of running and maintaining those servers, but even P2P costs them as well, right? So I am not sure why companies still choose P2P than a much better servers to host such a massive game?

I came across this example while looking for the answers:

GameSpy: Multiplayer server shutdown result of failure to pay by devsdevs

Maybe Take Two doesn't want to incur any expenses associated with a separate, dedicated servers?

I assume running dedicated servers are more expensive, but yea P2P isn't free either they still need a matchmaking system so players can find each other.

But seriously, GTA V has made billions, RDR2 will sell tons and make another huge pile of cash, if they're still gonna run the game through P2P then they're a sorry excuse for an multiplayer developer to be honest. Pretty much every other big game studio runs dedis for their games now.

That doesn't confirm anything. You can unlock the tomahawk and the revolver in any version (PC, XB1, PS4) of GTA Online for any (console only, at the moment) version of Red Dead 2.

But the PC version is 99% coming sometime later, regardless.

There are ways to spoof the remote server information, edit it locally and send it back. The last part is the problem, sending it back. You always need to download it for the game to process it which means you can intercept it. They just need basic security like checksumming, etc.

I'm burying myself in Odyssey, For Honor's new expansion and Soul Calibur 6. Sadly, I think being spoiled in at least some ways will be inevitable. YouTube is a minefield. All it takes is one Rockstar-related video, and the recommended sidebar will go nuts.
