As someone pointed out before, Rockstar is not following any pattern or has tradition, they could easily announce the PC version in November and release it in December or similar. They can afford luxury like that in the marketing world. So don't loose hope, fellas.

Have they ever done this?

The fact that it's taking longer than GTAV, relatively longer, makes me think that they're trying to avoid to delay it and tighten the time between the announcement and the release.

I've been thinking about this too for quite a while now . I don't really have anything more to say tho, simply hope this is the case.

No but Rockstar hardly do the same things since GTA V released on PS3/360 so let's just say 50/50

I wonder what stage they are at with the PC version, just bug fixing/optimization?

Considering they make the console version and the pc version at the same time, I think yes, bug fixing/optimization... especially optimization.

But who knows...

Considering GTA 5 had additional content for the PC version I would assume the game itself is more or less in a gold state. All they are probably working on is any extra content; Rockstar Editor, Ray tracing, Better graphics, Remastered original story (unlikely but who knows)

Everyone claims R* delayed PC to triple-dip, which I'm not saying is necessarily wrong, but it took basically a year and a half to get on PC from the original launch date. This was their first time doing a good job on a PC port and I think they did pretty dang well (minus load times) considering my moderate hardware runs it amazingly.

If we listen to what was said before about a 2019 Holiday release time period (with delay wiggle room), it might make sense based on GTAV PC development time:
-First time doing it well on PC

-Working on porting it to a next gen console with new features at the same time
-Good optimization work (sadly this needs to be stated because other AAA devs fail at it)

-GTAO content in the meanwhile

This took them an extra 1.5 years. RDR2 has only been out 10 months, so if we say that they learned from their GTAV experiences on PC dev, potentially grew in staff since then, and don't have to port to next gen (at least just yet), a 2019 holiday season does make sense to me.

Now why aren't they announcing it? I think it might be one (or all) of these things:
-Summer update deserves its own hype and announcement time period:

The update looks really neat, and while I've never played RDR2 let alone the online portion, I've heard its pretty lacking. These additional roles with room to add more in the future could be a good starting point (and extra MTX influence to sell the upcoming premium editions)

-They might be trying to cut back on all the rage they get from announcing dates to just delay over and over:
Even if they say "PC version coming soon" people wont be happy and will grill them all the same, they might think its worth it without a solid release date for people to hook onto. Especially since again the game is already out on consoles it seems weird to announce the PC version so late without a date set. If the more informed people here claim there is potential for delays, R* might already be planning with that as a possible outcome. Plus lets be real, seeing a trailer with a date at the end would make us all way more hyped.

-RDR2 PC doesn't really need much pre-order time as everyone already knows what RDR2 is, this is just a fancier version of it:
I don't think this is a sole reason but I also don't think RDR2 PC needs 6 months of hype either.

Anyway that's just my sh*tty brainstorm, thanks for reading.

This is what I meant before. Everybody saying "rockstar has taken two long I'm no longer interested in buying it on PC". Anybody in this thread who says they won't buy the game anymore because they arnt interested is lying to themselves. If you are in this thread you are clearly interested in the game.

Am I interested? Yes! But, like many other people, my finance are not unlimited. There's a void in AAA gaming right now until March/April of next year so, say they would release it for the holidays, I could potentially snatch it. But, say they release it next summer, well there's chances that I will put that money on Cyberpunk or Watch Dogs Legion meaning that it could take many months of saving to afford RDR2 on PC, depending at what price they'll put it; will it be full AA price at 60$, or lower at around 40$ since the game will be more than a year's old? I still stand on my opinion that profit wise, a release before the end of the year would be the best as they would still be able to justify a high enough price and with the AAA gaming void until next year's spring, it would sell like hotcakes.

I honestly feel that they gonna triple dip, and yes, I know the next gen consoles are gonna be backward compatible, but isn't the developers that decides to enhance their old games to newer consoles? They might not do it.

So they released on PS4 / Xbox One, they wait until next gen consoles to come out, and make it a console launch game. They'll wait 4-5 months and release on PC.  R* knows that the online mode will not generate money, so they make as much of it. If RDROnline still fails, then they might even make SP DLCs for the game to make more money out of it.

I don't think so. With the rumors of Bully II and GTA VI being in the works, I don't think they'll spread their staff even further to work on a full-on "PS5 remaster" of an already beautiful game; it'll cost too much for them for the possible return$. GTA V had all the star aligned to double dip (the PS4 being released a month after the PS3 release), now it's a very different story. Worse case I could see them selling a small 10$ patch of something to boost the graphic on the next gens, but nothing more.

Rockstar is not EA (not yet).

They'll either triple dip or release a free graphics upgrade patch.

The 'double dip' factor means jack sh*t in overall sales. No other dev I've heard of relies on this and I don't think they do either. Their primary market is console sales, and anyone that happens to buy both is an extremely tiny minority.

They will probably sell an RTX version for next gen consoles but they wont wait for next gen to then release PC afterwards. I don't get why people think that, that's a whole year+ away just for next gen consoles to be launched. If we follow the GTAV pattern it was one release a year, so PC could be coming in that year void.

Nope. Why would I lie to myself? I am 36 years old. No more child ;) My life has other priorities. Not everyone lies when they tell the truth.

Yes, holiday 2019 or early 2020 if delayed.

More likely to receive news/leaks with the RDO Summer update when that launches soontm

I think that if when the RDO summer updates they don't announce whats coming in the update after like they have for every update so far, it will be a good indication that the PC release is near. Its always possible but i don't think they will be marketing the PC release and a new update at the same time.

GTA 5 can't be played on GeForce Now anymore. Seems like Stadia has exclusive streaming rights. This pretty much confirms GTA 5 on Stadia.

Even more proof that video game streaming is absolute sh*t. One day you have the game finished at 100% and the other one you can't play the game anymore because partnerships and other stuff

Stadia having exclusive streaming rights for now is just baseless speculation. No one knows why the game isn't available on GeForce Now anymore.

In the case of GeForce Now, you don't buy GTA 5 for GeForce Now. GeForce Now is a weird but cool service that's been in beta forever (Not everyone can get access to GeForce Now). GeForce Now basically lets you setup a virtual machine in the cloud, lets you install the game's launcher on a virtual machine (Steam, Bethesda Launcher, EGS launcher, RGSC launcher etc), and streams the game for you. Basically, if you own the PC version of the game you can also stream it with GeForce Now. With Stadia, you own the "Stadia" version of the game which you can't install locally on your PC and play it. This doesn't show that streaming is 'absolute' sh*t.

Nope. Not only they'll double dip but they going for the triple dip. Why else would they delay it other than meeting the quota of their estimated earnings. They're sticking with that tactic with every future Rockstar games that are popular, unless it's a new IP.
