Zevick
Believe you me I am incredibly excited for this game. Everything about it looks like it will be near perfect, and I will play the hell out of it no matter what. However my question is this. They are OBVIOUSLY going for the most immersion as possible. I don't just want to play this game, I personally want to live in it. I want to live and breathe red dead I want to be Arthur Morgan and first person is all it takes for this to happen, or for that matter be me as Arthur Morgan in an alternate universe it really depends on how you look at it, it also doesn't take more than first person for you to seperate that this is another character and become you playing this game. When you have crossed the line of it is now you in the game you enter another realm of game playing, Every thing is detailed, and they are literally sculpting out every small detail, and that's the key, it's in the small details. Such as the footprints in the snow from your horse, the prancing done by your horse in the game-play trailer, animal carcasses on back of horse, the bullet holes in Arthur's jacket, the atmosphere, everything has been handcrafted to be as believable as possible etc. I can go on and on with the small details in this game that enhance immersion. 3rd person is great and all, but if they are truly going for the most believable, immersive gaming experience, surely first person as an option would only greatly enhance things? I want to live in this world, and first person will do that for me personally. It looks like they've already nailed the 3rd person animations, so who's to say they haven't also hammered out first person animations. Do you think that first person will be in this game at launch or afterward? They didn't show it here but that does not mean that it is not in the game. P.S For those that want to bitch and complain how they don't want first person in this game, please keep in mind if it is it's only an additional option. No one is forcing you to use it and more options doesn't make the game worse, I know there are many who are for it and many who don't care and just as many against it, but please keep this in mind. Thank you, please don't flame me. Edited August 9, 2018 by Zevick P.T., GreatGig and Gummy
AGNT009
1st person is so overrated. So useless in GTA V I never use it. First person can never truly feel 1st person, and when games try it, it just makes it even more noticeable youre playing a game IMO. Zevick
AGNT009 perhaps, but recognize this is your opinion like mine is above. Though have you taken into consideration that they didn't do first person as well as they could have in GTA V as it was their first true venture into this aspect of gaming. They had never done first person before, they now have experience, and input from first person in GTA V. Don't knock it till you try it, they could very well do it the right way this time, and it will then be something neither you or me have ever experienced in a game before. Tell me if they get animations right for first person, and everything feels sleek and natural you wouldn't be open to it? Because I sure as hell would. Lock n' Stock
It wouldn't make sense to me that Rockstar would take the time to add first-person to GTA V, only to ditch it in RDR2. Even if I prefer third-person over first-person, I think it's always great to have choice between the two. DexMacLeod
I tend to not be a huge fan of First Person but I find when done right it can make a game way more immersive. I can see it blending really well with RDR2's more interactive NPCs and the idea that the line between gameplay and cutscene is blurred could really benefit from first person. It's also nice for soaking in all the little details in a game and RDR2 seems to be full to the brim with those. My only real problems with it in GTA V were while driving and taking cover in shootouts. Driving won't be an issue in RDR2, should actually be pretty nice on horseback, and from what we've seen in the new gameplay trailer enemies are absolutely terrible at shooting so cover isn't really something we'll have to worry about. Gray-Hand
Didn’t they say recently words to the effect that Arthur Morgan is not the player. He is not our avatar and we are only following his story, albeit with the ability to influence it to a limited degree. If that is their philosophy for this game, then that might count against the likelihood of a first person perspective being in single player. Totallycasual
I've never liked first person because it makes character customization redundant, i lost my hype for Cyberpunk 2077 when they said it was first person only. Each to their own though, im certainly not opposed to options being available for people. TheSantader25 and NightmanCometh96
Shade04rek
Same question back when rumors were of gtav adding it lol. I have the same position too, as long It is secondary and completely ignorable, it doesn't hurt to have more features. Not a fan myself, but if it's in, I'm sure at some point i'd do a hudless 1st person playthough for replay value and difficulty increase. LeonVegaSuarez
I thought it was pretty cool in GTA V especially while driving. On foot it felt clunky and the gun fight mechanics were total trash. I found myself switching to third person mostly because I want to see my character and appreciate his looks. In first person I sometimes forgot what I was wearing lol. I think RDR 2 really doesnt need it. P.T.
Mas u Sees
In the first released leaked Dossier, to Trusted Reviews, there was a mention of a first person mode. Also Rob Nelson, the Lead Animator for GTA Vs First Person Camera view on Next Gen systems, also seems to have a leading role in Red Dead Redemption IIs development(he conducted the Interviews with the different press outlets). Thus I believe that a First Person Camera view is more than likely, it will either come with the PC Release later on, or it might simply be revealed closer to release, in order to get some of the Battlefied and COD Fans to buy RDRII.(similar to how GTA V Next Gen kinda butchered Far Cry 4 back then). CrimsonFolo
imo FP was pretty useless in GTA V. It is likely to be in the RDR2 aswell though

Kaversmed
I would embrace a 1st person mode but would probably not be doing my first playthrough like that. I really like 1st person but I feel like I won’t be able to appreciate the animation work and character details of Arthur in 1st person. Avirity
Sounds good for single player but not for online though, unless they find a way to balance it correctly. Thing is 1st person in Gta is the reason everyone sniper dances and makes the game look weird on the PvP aspect. Plus, some guns like the MG have 0 recoil while using 1st person so yeah seems kind of unfair if you ask me. TheSantader25

60017 Silver Fox
I wouldn't be suprised if there is a first person mode since it was in GTA V and was a fairly popular addition. I personally would love to explore the world outside the story missions in first person so my fingers are crossed in hopes that its there. Imagine interacting with your fellow gang member in that blizzard we saw in the gameplay trailer in first person. Would be an amazing experience. Cyraxx
That leak in February said there would be first person in both single player and online, normally that doesn't mean very much to me without proof, but nearly everything it said ended up being in the gameplay trailer Something to keep in mind, I guess. I hope it makes it in too
TheSantader25
Although some say it adds to the immersion I really don't like it but I found it REALLY useful for some aspects of GTA V like reading different things around the world that are attached to the wall or stores or etc. It's a good feature to observe small details in the game but I really don't like using it during the gameplay. It would be cool to have it like GTA Vice City were you could observe the world in first person but couldn't move. In this way it would be a third person game with the "ability" to notice little details in first person without any effect on the gameplay. P.T.
While i totally agree with OP, im going to take it even a step further. Yes , yes , i know and have come to the sad conculsion this wont actually take place. However, i think what would make it the bees knees , would be PSVR support for the full game. Dont care if you like the idea or not really, dont worry for those who " hate the idea". I am sure it wont be in this title. But i do believe its one reason they added it to GTA V. For the future. Maybe next gen i can finally fully be immersed in a Rockstar title. I guess ill just have to imagine it in first person, and if there is first person mode just use that with cinematic mode on psvr, and let that be as close as i can get. Options are never a bad thing, so odd many feel it is. damienrayemusic and TheSantader25
Anonamix
I expect it to return. I love first person in GTAV. There are a ton of options, so I can have it revert to third person when I take cover. The scope of the game can really be appreciated when you look up at the tall buildings and I think that will remain true with the mountains in RD2. Dr.Rosenthal
I’d assume 1st person view is in the game, but personally I much prefer 3rd person tbh. I’ve always felt GTAV’s 1st person perspective is a bit clunky for my tastes, while 3rd person does a lot more for immersion. From what it looks like, the interactions between player and NPC have gotten a lot better too, and to see all those interactions and to see the player move around in the world is more my cup of joe. Which is why I was mildly disappointed in hearing that CP2077 won’t have 3rd person (with all those cyborg enhancements and stuff - just think of how cool that would have looked in 3rd person view! Which is probably the same reason as to why they scrapped it as it would require huge amounts of insane character modelling). But to each their own! Anyways, to conclude my comment; I’d be surprised if there’s no 1st person, but I wouldn’t be very sorry.

PvTails
I'm all for it if they improved the on-foot controls and camera and make sniper rifles lose accuracy while strafing to get rid of sniper dancing.

However, it was the first time that Rockstar had truly done first person if ever. I really do feel that they would make it much better, and could make it much better for this game. Especially with all of the realistic animations. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these realistic animations for 3rd person we have seen would actually work for first person. Plus if they did all that work making the animations for third person, how much tweaking would they truly have to do to make a legitimate well animation-ed first person. Just my two cents.
