"Want"?  I didn't say anything about what I wanted in that post.  I do think a map bigger than GTA V's will be incredibly large considering we can only traverse it by horseback (or fast travel I guess).  For that reason, and the relative smallness of RDR's map (which still felt plenty big and diverse for that game), I won't be surprised if it's smaller than GTA V, and I won't be let down either.  As long as it's at least a little bigger than RDR I'll be fine with it.  But if it IS bigger than GTA V's map, I'll be happy.  I like exploring in open world games, so a huge, detailed map is fine by me, so long as it doesn't hurt the gameplay.

As far as what Rockstar said, you'll have to pull up your source on that, because I haven't seen any such thing from the horse's mouth.  Their announcements and trailers certainly don't say that.  They haven't done much interviewing yet.  As far as I know, this information has only come to us second hand, from game outlets that claim it to be so.  If it isn't, it would hardly be the first time that one of these sites misheard or misinterpreted some marketing speak from a developer and said something about an upcoming game that wasn't true.  And it's not even clear if these sources all heard the same information from Rockstar themselves, or if someone "reputable" said it and now they're all just copying each other's bad information.  Maybe Rockstar actually told them that; maybe not. 

I'll believe it when Rockstar says it.  Until then, my gut tells me it's not likely.  Sorry.

If Red Dead 2 map was the same size of GTA 5 it would still feel bigger because your fastest mode of transportation is a horse.

I don't believe RDR2 map will be literally bigger than GTA V map either. Even if the final map turns out to be leaked map+New Austin+Nuevo Paraíso+another unknown zone, it'll still be smaller. But it'll feel bigger even if it's only the leaked map as it is, IMO.

Speaking of realism, I've been screaming it since the beginning. I would love to see Illnesses and diseases. Especially if we are talking about getting attacked by bears and sh*t in the woods and dabbling in whore vagina or drinking water from places or eating sh*t we probably shouldn't. Idk I think it would cool. The we seen Doctor's at work  in trailer 3,  it's been in screenshots and all. It could very well not be a thing in RDR2 just something I would love to experience.

It's not the kind of thing that Rockstar would do, even if they could meet that level of ambition.  I'm gonna miss Mexico.

No it really doesn't. Nowhere have Rockstar said there would be diseases or illness, nor have they even implied it. They haven't even said if we would could get frostbitten and die if we stayed in the snow for too long without proper protection.

 

Just because one mission has a blizzard in it, and you have to race to get supplies and warmth doesn't mean that will be a main feature in the open world part of the game.

Probably not. They've shown a desertic zone that doesn't belong anywhere on the leaked map, so, the most realistic map expectation isn't too far from that.

Why is so much of the town of Valentine being shown but little to none of other towns?

Of all the beautiful moments shown in the video, this is one of my favorite shots. I just love everything about it. The lighting (dusk or dawn?), the way the collar of the jacket flaps, that badass walk like he's untouchable, and the grimace on his face - or whatever you'd call that expression.

Check out the map thread, we've seen more towns then you'd think. But also probably because Valentine is an early point in the game

@HugoatJohn also mentions to Landon Ricketts that John and Javier were "educated" together. He could have simply meant they both were in a gang together or that Javier was taught to read and write by Dutch aswell.

You gotta remember, this is the wilderness, it's totally open. It's not like a city where everything is busy, people everywhere and buildings and cars. It's just open land, so it's gotta be big for it to feel like a truly untamed frontier. How long it takes to travel around is irrelevant
