Doctor Holliday
Ok so I got home this afternoon and (apparently overnight) my Firefox decided Youtube isn't cool anymore. Symptoms as follows; 1) Cannot 'scrub' through videos. The little preview window that pops up when you mouse over the timeline of the video is not appearing. 2) Some videos which worked fine literally 24 hours ago will not play at all. Black screen with "An error has occurred. Please try again later" message. 3) The 'Settings' button does not open. All the other playback buttons seem to work, like pause and fullscreen, but clicking on Settings fails to open the panel with resolutions and speeds. Unable to change anything. 4) In general, Youtube appears to be loading a few seconds slower than other web pages at the moment. Like I said none of this was happening last night before I went to bed. Already tried disabling my addons like Adblock, etc to no avail. Already tried clearing out my Youtube related data cache and cookies. Already tried disabling hardware/performance acceleration within FF preferences itself. Already made sure FF is updated to the latest version. Graphics drivers are current. And it's definitely Firefox because literally everything works fine on Chrome or Edge or any other browser. I've used FF for years, as long as I can remember without any noticeable issues until this very moment so it's pretty weird. Anybody else experiencing this or have I hit the unlucky lottery? It's happening on both my desktops and laptops so that's not narrowing the issue either.
Vanzant
Is this Windows 10 related? Because this isn't happening on my Desktop, my laptop or work computer. All running Windows 7 using firefox with adblock. Doctor Holliday
TJGM
No, it's YouTube related. https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/91jil3/youtube_page_load_is_5x_slower_in_firefox_and/ Doctor Holliday
Doctor Holliday
I think TJ and Vanz are hitting the nail. It all seems to be related to Firefox's latest betas in combination with Win 10. Doesn't sound like it affects XP or 7 or most other OS for that matter but I'm using Win 10 Home Pro. As of today the problem still exists. Certain videos don't load and none of the Settings work. I've honestly tried every "fix" that I've been able to find and none of them actually address the issue. I even just uninstalled the browser and reloaded it from scratch to no avail. In the meantime I had already switched everything over to Chrome (which works perfectly, of course) that I keep around as a backup, but that's too bad for FF... Not that I was a fanboy either way. It's just what I used. Guess I'm officially on the Chrome wagon now Edited August 10, 2018 by Doctor Holliday
Vanzant
Hmmm,,,if Chrome works. Go back into Fifefox and click the menu button New Fx menu and select Options. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if that makes Youtube run. I do have a laptop at work with Firefox and Windows 10 and can check into it more if that doesn't work.
