I've played every GTA game from GTA 3 from GTA 5 and I've noticed 2 distinct styles rockstar has.

Dark and Gloomy

Bright and Sunny

So I was kind of curious which one do you like better ? Cause for me I like the Gta 4 style better, but the only thing I hate is when the game goes super gray. Even in TBOGT I've experienced it and I hate that. The Bright and Sunny theme isn't bad, but it feels more like a hollywood movie than anything else.

Which style do you like more dark and gloomy or bright and sunny ?

I think IV was a little too depressing and V was too cartoony. That makes TBOGT a good compromise. It has all the absurdities you'd expect from a GTA game while not being too Hollywoodian like V is.

I like IV's weather cycles that make the game look beautiful to this day. I don't see them as "dark and gritty" as much as I see it as a realistic depiction of New York/Liberty City. The sunsets in IV are breathtaking.

There is more to an overall atmosphere than just visuals. I didn't feel the same in TLAD and TBOGT as I did in IV. Just as I didn't feel the same in Fallout 3 as I did in New Vegas, despite them both looking very similar to each other.

Bright and Sunny.

Though I don't think GTA V had a filter like IV did. It was pretty similar to real life LA. while IV definitely had a filter.

I don't mind it as long as it doesn't be as depressing as GTA III or as goofy as VCS, TBOGT or V.

But if I had to pick a choice, I'd go with dark and gritty after all.

Dark and gloomy. If you're referring to the cities I mean.

Well, I had a second thought about that - something as gritty as GTA III would be amazing actually. It wasn't really that much darker than GTA IV, although it slightly is, not in an emotional way though.

i’m glad you like gta 3 i always tought gta 3 was underrated. but unlike you i think there is a big difference between gta 3 and gta 4. gta 4 had very big emotions and feeling in both protagonist and other characters such as roman, johnny, michail and some others niko had connection with. but when i look at gta 3 i see nothing but a man without emotions and different directions, he does what he does because that’s the way of his character. there is no real reason behind his acts.  %90 of the other characters are this way too. they only mind business nothing else.

I can find many similarities between GTA III and IV, especially when it comes to the setting and atmosphere, but like you, I can see that GTA III's story isn't really filled with emotions. The only emotional scene I can remember in its story is probably when Asuka screams into Miguel "This worm killed my brother!".

Grand Theft Auto is about the criminal underworld. Definitely dark and gloomy.

dark and gloomy mostly because rockstar did them better from what we’ve seen in years. no messy unlogical things, just the real deals, you know which games i’m talking about.

i kinda disagree. Hard-boiled, gritty crime stories can also work in sunny locations, just look at max payne 3.

Dark and gritty no doubt, but even better, it would be the combination of the two given choices, if possible. It's always good to see contrasts.

On the other hand, I adore something colorful and alive like Vice City.

Neither, really.

GTA 3 is gloomy, and it is my favourite atmosphere. On another hand, I can't stand GTA 4 that supposedly also has a gloomy atmosphere.

GTA SA is sunny, and I love it (mostly, or rather, given the right circumstances). GTA 5 is "sunny" (at least in comparison with GTA 4) - and it's the biggest pointless waste of resources R* ever had in my opinion.

So it's not the sunny v gloomy for me - it's how it's done. I would probably just slightly prefer well implemented sunny over well implemented gloomy if I had to choose, mainly because it rains 9 months out of 12 here in real life, but not fussed either way.

I think what I am trying to say I like realistic style over the fake ones!

Dark and gloomy. But I still want GTA 6 to take place in Vice City.
